@nottinmatterz2day You can loosen it off more, also it becomes smoother with time, because this was brand new - but it is very smooth and controlable.
@FckedUpFingers I'm not sure about universal to be honest. It has what appears to be a standard thread for all Manfrotto Tripods. Maybe you could take your tripod along to the shop and try it out, or try out any other Manfrotto head. If it fits properly then maybe you will be ok. Cheers.
@CakesnakeFilms Great isn't it?? You can see inside yourself when you look through it, and when you zoom in the world becomes black and white and inside out! Amazing Lens! ;-)
@freezazoid Sorry, but I don't have or have never owned other similar heads. I think Manafrotto call it a 'fluid' head in their description, so maybe you need to ask the person what they mean by 'True' Fluid head!??
My understanding is a fluid head is one that can move in a non-stop unobstructed motion at a constant speed.

I can say that this is a quality be of metal. You can pan your camera left to right or up to down in very nice consistant motion to create smooth video movements.
great detailed review, thanks I'm looking at the Manfrotto 547B Tripod And 701HDV Head seems to be a deal on the two together for aound £230.00, so I think I'll do it after checking out your video.
Hammering on your tripod head... awesome! Good advice on not screwing it on too tight. Thanks for the review of the 701HDV; i'm looking into tripods and heads now.
what is a 700-300mm lens? 70-300! not 700-300! :)

Looks like the panning is a little hard or rough for you to do

@whit856 IKEA....not sure if they still do it, it's pretty distinctive if you had a look through their web site.
Thanks

Hi,
Wich head is better: 701HDV or 501HDV?
THANKS!!!!
MrPacMe 2 months ago
@MrPacMe I didn't look at the 501. Not sure what the differences are, sorry.
AndyBJ 2 months ago
@MrPacMe Well obviously the 501HDV is better since it's more expensive, but it all depends on your needs, budget, and future needs.

Why didnt you just screw the new head on top of the old one?
wikigeek 8 months ago
@wikigeek Not a great idea if you think about it!
You could knock the lever on the old head and it would move the new one - not great if your filming something important.
Also the there is only a basic tripod mount on the top-plate of the other head, and that would not fit the thread of the new head.
Plus this head is pretty big and the overall stability is not likely to be as good as the more solid standard mount.
-however it could be good for angled shots if they went together....mmmmm!

I just bought the 501 head... but I was told it's not a true fluid head. Is this head better or smoother?
