Ah, this was the golden age of Cartoon Network. I miss all of these great programs! Nowadays, it's all gone downhill with crappy shows like: "Destroy Build Destroy" and "Dude, What Would Happen". I wish CN would go back to the way it used to be. :(
It's a shame that Cartoon Network isn't nowhere like this anymore. The same thing goes to Nickelodeon and MTV. Thanks for posting this up, it brought me back a lot of happy memories from my childhood. : )
Oh man I remember how I was one upset kid when Peter Perfect and Penelope Pitstop were getting hitched. I had a big crush on her and I cried when they announced their wedding. I'll never forget that.
I remember seeing those Saturday Japanime commercials back then, and they freaked me out! Anime was a totally new, weird thing to me at the time, nowhere near as widespread as it is in this day of post-Pokemon and Adult Swim. Miss those days.
@cyberyanmar Nope, not all. One or two did, most notably Butch Hartman (of "Farily Oddparents" fame). He did a couple of one-off shorts for WPT.
Some stayed at CN, like Genndy (Dexter, Samurai Jack, Foster's) and McCracken (PPG), others fell into obscurity and one in particular went on to TV superstardom............some guy named Seth MacFarlane, heard he created some show called "Family Guy". WPT was the breeding ground for a lot of great talent.
@CartoonNothing For some reason, CN aired the Mr. Spim premiere promo during this time period. With very few exceptions, all of my promos are organized in the order in which they were originally aired/recorded. Thinking back, I tried to keep as few repeating promos as possible (with the exception of the "Short" and "Long" versions of many promos), but let this one slide, perhaps because it contains the clearest version of the Mr. Spim commercial theme. These videos were sure hard work!
wow they were really specific with the Power Zone promos! Dino Boy at 12:15? I'm guessing they would show a different cartoon superhero every fifteen minutes? fifteen minutes of space ghost, mightor etc.
@trapadoored I believe that was the Super Adventures format (later revived as "Cartoon Roulette" in early Toonami), in which a mish-mash of '60's H-B superhero shorts were shown within a block of time Circa-1995-1996 schedules show PZ airinghese Super Adventures blocks along with stand-alone Hanna-Barbera/Ruby-Spears action shows (Thundarr, Centurions etc.). Strange to see CN promoting PZ and other late-night blocks like "Toonapalooza" so much, probably because they had recently premiered.
My god, CN had such a large variety of programming back in the day. I was so fortunate to have been an avid CN fan since the early days. Totally miss Down With Droopy D! Too bad they don't have this type of variety anymore.
Did anyone notice that the Cartoon Network logo at the end of the Power Zone promo (at 2:40) has the colors reversed? (starts with black C on a white square instead of the usual black C on a white square).
I miss the good ol' Cartoon Network. They've completely ruined it now. What's up with 'CN Real'? That shit has absolutely NO relevance to the channel whatsoever!
I was a Tom and Jerry, Wacky races and Loony tunes kid. Two stupid dogs was good though and that's where me and more modern style Cartoons split. I vaguely remember anime coming about but didn't go so much on it. What's happening now is bull, to me personally. CN Real??!!!???!!! Please.
WoW man I remember watching that summer line up everyday those were the days of the summer of 1995, another thing i missed that Penelope and Peter wedding celebration, if any one saw can ya tell me what happened please, in those 3 specials
These clips are off of my collection of VHS recordings? The info? I've been watching CN since 1994-ish, and remember quite a bit about the 1994-2004 period.
I just realized that anime was on cartoon network even before 1997. So anime has probably been on cartoon network since it began, as I remember years ago. Now cartoon network doesn't even show anime after all the years they had it. "Japanime" was a block that was on cartoon network, known as "PreToonami" kind of before 1997. I miss anime on cartoon network because cartoon network failed. Now this CN Real crap has destroy Cartoon Network!!!!!!!!!
"Saturday Japanime" (also known as "Night of the Vampire Robots") was just a limited event, in which those three movies were shown at late night. They were shown numerous times throughout 1995 on Cartoon Network. Before "Toonami", the only anime on CN were "G-Force" and "Speed Racer".
I'm suprised they could show vampire hunter D on cartoon network pre-adult swim. I saw it on saturday anime on sci fi channel maybe a couple years after this and remember it being pretty adult.
The movies made their broadcast TV debuts on the Sci-Fi Channel around 1993 (at least VHD & RC did), and supposedly were then aired late nights on TBS & TNT circa-1994, before making it to CN in late January 1995. From what I can tell, this is the 2nd showing of the trio of movies that CN had that year.
These movies, along with "Toonami Midnight Run" years later, paved the way for today's "Adult Swim Action". CN'd been testing the late night waters for years before Adult Swim.
yeah that was a fail when they stopped showing anime -_- now they have those weird shows they need the new anime CN is the only place where anime free on tv.
@mqg96 If you think that's bad, you should see what they did to Nickelodeon. There were many classics on the old TV channels that should have been kept untouched or just slightly changed.
OMG, I never knew Charlie Brown was on Cartoon Network. I have to say, cartoon network had over 1,000 cartoons back then and now they only have like 8 now. Cartoon Network has failed >:(
Yeah used to play the movies. I have to say my brother watches CN all the time now and it just makes me sad at how liitle they show the older cartoons now. They brought back Looney Toons but probably only for a month or so. And it's also sad that Boomerange has turned into Cartoon Network 2. It's just sad=(
08:17-09:48 is pure awesome !!! WPT:Next Generation...and Summer line-up...Centurions man, Centurions!!! just great! Do you have any more stuff (from the next week) ? Thanks for putting all the stuff up!
Are these CN promos in the season of Spring? I want to know.

they don't seem to promote "Cartoon Planet" much in these blocks. I wonder, was this before is debuted?

@trapadoored Yes, my footage predates the premiere of Cartoon Planet, which premiered on TBS in late '95 I believe (it made the jump to CN in 1996).

Then, "Cartoon Network's Cartoon Theatre" (97-07)
Then, "Movie Madness" (07-08)
Now, "The Flicks".
I'm surprised "The Flicks" (and their Noods) are still around with CN's current "CHECK iT" branding.
