@Fyrged With frets, you won't have to worry about memorizing where to put your fingers on the fingerboard. Fretless is the opposite- you have to memorize where to put your fingers. I want a fretless six string Cobra, I don't know what color yet, but I know I won't be getting one for some time.
Just wondering, would you suggest *some* experience with other instruments, such as the bass, viola, violin, etc. before purchasing the product, or would you say being proficient in the cello would be enough?
how can i buy a cello like this? and the price jaja is very important the price. But i want a cello exactly like this but in black color or red. any page? any shop? anything about the buy this cellos? please help me
@scrattenherz Not sure where you're located but you can order one from any of our authorized dealers. Just go to the Wood Violins website, or send us a message and we'll be happy to help you.
@miniazn212 They are very competitively priced, considering they are custom-built to order, by hand, right here in the USA. If you're interested in pricing, message us.
This is really a great electric cello. The difference in electronics is astounding when compared with my old Yamaha SV-210, it looks flat out amazing even in the cheapest colors that it comes in, the frets do their job without getting in the way of vibrato, and its the easiest set-up for standing up. The extra strings are just the icing on the cake.
It takes a bit of getting used to, but its far and beyond the best there is.
for those of you worried about sound quality, for electric instruments the sound quality is in large part about 50% instrument, 50% amp. The cobra cellos sound fine, it's probably a lousy amp or mic in this video
I'm thinking of getting one of these (eventually, probably not for a while), but I can't choose between fretted or fret-less. What are the pros and cons of each options?
I can't find any shops nearby that stock these, nor the violins. I am very interested how the frets actually work. Mark Wood talks about being able to slide and play in between the frets. It seemed that there was a "glissando" that was fairly fretless in sound in the beginning--though I did detect some jumps.
The cello, at least in this recording, sounds pretty muddy below the G string. It doesn't sound as good as an acoustic in that range. The higher strings sounded pretty good.
@vibratingstring The Cobras come in such a wide variety of configurations that it's hard for our dealers to keep them all in stock; however, they can be special-ordered from anyone. As for this recording, it was very "guerilla" and was done that way on purpose. Just a mike in front of an amp. Please message me with your email address and I'll be happy to help you with any other Cobra questions you may have!
@DaigurenHynomaru It is a cello, it just has 2 extra strings. Electric Bass Guitars are the same way. Some are 4 strings and the more expensive ones are 6 string. As for Wood Violins (The brand/maker), they also offer their violins in 4 string, 5 string and 6 string models/variations. So...this is certainly a cello.
to tell you the truth, this video helps me a lot. More of how to hold my bow, My arm always begins to hurt into half of a song helpful and very nice video
I remember getting to play one of these the past few times Mark Wood came to my school. :D Truly an amazing instrument. ((By one of these, I mean a Cobra in general, the one I played had only four strings and no frets. It was still a gorgeous instrument.))
I'm not quite convinced by the 'clean cello' sound... I kinda feel it still sounds 'too electronic'... But maybe it's just the recording or something...
You cannot expect acoustic sound from a solid body instrument of any kind. it will sound synthetic compared to acoustic instrument anyway. just because of no subtle wood vibrations.
but thanks for bach's prelude. surprisingly the best sounding piece demonstrated
@armadillo616 I have actually had the honor to play one myself. It does sound quite a bit different via YT because of the sound quality in the video. They actually sound a lot like a cello in real life. Sounds like an acoustic that just has a pick up on it. But the nice thing about Cobras is the fact that you can get so many different sounds and effects from them. :)
Cobras sure are amazing instruments of the future. Also a big improvement from my cello- that stands pretty much as tall as me, and probably weighs at least half my weight! The shape really does catch the eye, I have to admit.

The basic sound of the Cobra is quite clean - this particular recording was done with a room mike and not direct.
