  • Quite good cover, on a good song well worth playing. Sure Betty made the "real" version and you can't beat that but please let them cover it anyway. But shouldn't you mention Betty Davis when uploading the tune?

  • Betty Davis' version (the original) blows this shit out the water. Why did they even attempt it and embarass themselves like this?

  • @rodentcafeteria To show their appreciation to Betty and her original version? To spark others' interest? People who are fans of Lenny Kravitz and Skunk Anansie might go the extra mile and look into the original to hear and compare. I've been fortunate to come across a lot of covers by musicians that I like and be introduced to the original artists and their great music. What they did was carry this song and interest in it over through another generation.

  • @LadyBern It still sucks!! It doesn't even come remotely close the vibe of the original, but that's just my opinion.

  • @rodentcafeteria I see that you have some animosity towards this. Yes it is your opinion and I respect it. But it is thanks to Skunk Anansie that I've learned of this song and Betty. I listened to the original and I do like her voice. But really I don't think that they were trying to mimic the original but doing a tribute towards it with their own style mixed into it retaining their own image. But trust me with all of the remixes out there it could have been much much worse than this.

  • @LadyBern You respect my opinion and I, in turn, respect yours. My opinion about cover versions of classics is this: If you can't add anything to it that wasn't already there, don't even bother. I have absolutely nothing against Lenny Kravitz nor Skunk Anansie (whom I've never even heard of). My comment was based "solely" on what I heard as compared to the original which I first heard some 20+ years ago. I really don't know what "animosity" you're talking about.

  • @rodentcafeteria Towards covers that don't met up. I can understand I've heard a few that made me furious, and remixes/mash-ups that made me want to cry. And using songs for cash not out of respect for the original, so many teen pop idols have done it I feel like an old woman screaming 'You should hear the original!' The one song I can use as an example where the cover was prettty decent was 'Love Song'. And on some occassions the cover is better, "Mad World" for example.

  • @LadyBern Quite frankly, with all of the re-mixes and covers that have been done in recent years, I'm beginning to think people have just simply run out of ideas, so they turn to something that's tried and true. A cover that's just as good or better than the original is very rare. And I've yet to figure out why, with all the millions of songs and artists out there, radio stations can only seem to find about 12 and play them constantly.

  • @rodentcafeteria No argument there. I've actually come to hate mildly talented artists because every single time I got into the car I was hearing one of two new songs from their album. I really feel old saying this but so many people sound the same, so does their music, and I don't feel any real passion or meaning in a majority of the recent songs. Reason I'm happy this lead me to Betty Davis, someone 'new' to explore.

  • @LadyBern Well, if this cover led you back to discover the "real deal," then that's a good thing. Betty Davis rocked!! My only complaint was that I could never find a DVD of her live performances. I honestly think most of today's so-called "artists" are waaayyy over-rated, but I guess that's juist the way things are nowadays.

  • @rodentcafeteria Of course it's hard to have BAD like Btty !

  • yeeeeeeeeeah......
