i doubt he has ever seen anyone get shot but he is right, when you get shot theres more like a pop of dust or smoke kind of and the exit wound is where all the blood comes from at first thats where the squib should be.

you can also use these things called finger cots there smaller than condoms but they work the same way and they hold a fair amount

you can super glue a washer to the blood pack (condom/waterballoon) tie it to the string and pull it works better

Hollywood actually uses condoms for plood packets. becaus with the squibs hollywood uses they brake easyer. im pretty sure they dont use lubed condoms though.
