  • Look "closely" I meant. Sorry for the typo.

  • The guitar is named "Rocky". It is written on the guitar if you look vlosrly in photos.

  • did he say it's called "Lucky"??

  • @millerhighlife2112 u can say that again

  • CBS (Columbia Broadcasting System) bought out Leo Fender in '65. Many guitar players believe that the quality dropped after CBS acquired Fender, using cheaper parts and making certaion modifications to save money for mass sales.

From a collectablility standpoint, pre-CBS Fender gear is generally more sought after and worth more (depending on condition) than the models made during the CBS years.

  • @1DonnyAir That's why I bought a G&L... Leo's next company. Awesome quality.

  • The color was called Daphne Blue

  • This clip is from a celebration of the stratocaster 40 years from 1994, called "Curves, contours and bodyhorns"

  • On the same programme - George repeats the Nowhere Man solo - its a shame this wasnt added to the video.

  • I bet Harrison stayed up painting Rocky while he was tripping on acid

  • @Dimefan91 haha yeah probably

  • loved it

  • what's the bit at the very end about, CBS? seems to have nothing to do with Rocky

  • @patton455 cbs bought out fender, i forget when though

  • Why is that room sooo dark? I can barley see George or his guitar!

  • Ironically, as logic & faith & common sense are set aside, Westerners have faith that immune-system-destroying irradiation & toxins are practical, therapeutically, in checking the proliferation of crab-cancer. Ruminants survive on grass, clover, weeds, shoots, sprouts, buds, leaves, seeds, etc.—all abound in Amygdalin, the molecularity of which is: hydrogen cyanide, benzaldehyde & glucose.

  • The populace shares the reasonable belief (belief is synonymous with faith) that the human body is not impervious to nuclear weaponry.

  • Fuck Cigarettes...

  • @millerhighlife2112 george died within a day of my grandpa's death, both of cigs. they're the reason i don't touch em.

  • @Icanhasoboe : Harrison died of cancer. See the film: "World Without Cancer."

  • @TheManWithTVEyes um i know that...cigs led to cancer, dummy

  • @Icanhasoboe : You're mistaken sister.

  • @TheManWithTVEyes i'm a man. also the lung cancer that he had matasticized to his brain, so i guess cigs get the assist

  • @Icanhasoboe : Your guess is wrong.

  • oh cool he mentions Ry Cooder

  • I want that guitar so bad

  • from what dvd is this from

  • 2:17 awww he used the full name of his ex...he's so cute. She sucks.

  • Love this. But what's this from?

Also... Someone was talking about the naming of the guitar? Well, Rocky Raccoon is from '68, and I believe the guitar was already named when it appeared in I Am the Walrus in '67. Right?

  • great clip....i agree with george...it is a historic instrument...rocky is...

i always think of him playing rocky in the "i am the walrus" clip....

ps- my fave guitar is e claptons gibson E335 from his cream days...

  • he seems like such a nice guy him and john lennon are my personal favorites its a shame that they both died.

  • Fender for the win!

  • Ultra-famous, of course, but so much more inventive as a musician than a lot of people still give him credit for, which I don't quite understand. Really a marvelously creative player.

  • His voice is wunderful. I could listen to him for.. hours <3

  • @96Beatlesfan especially when he says taxman lol

  • @BEARARMZ

    Yeah, ur right... :D

  • Go to this website for all the detailed research you could ever want:

Google "Fab Guitars of The Beatles"

  • I'd do a lot of awful things to have that guitar

  • Too bad he doesn't say anything about his tele. I love his rosewood tele.

  • You can see that he was a little bit shy! Many "Andahh", but that's what I love of him; even though he was a Beatle, he was very modest.

  • I would love to be able to play a strat but my hands are too small and the longer scale feels too big on me. the jaguars arent as nice as the strat :(

  • @Jazz95Master it's not 93% of what they earned.....it is 93% "above a certain earnings amount"......so if the cap is 20 million dollars per year and one made 30 million......then they would have to pay 93% on 10 million

  • whats with the flames at the end?

  • Send chills down my back. He was there for almost all of those amazing songs and he makes it all seem so normal

  • Scarred for life over a guitar. Wow.

  • George said Grestch were Crap..lol

  • @wisesatyr72 yea weird lol

  • @wisesatyr72 they couldn't coz a lot of the money they should have made didn't go to them.

  • Happy birthday GEORGE!!!!!

  • aww what a shame... INFERNO! AAAAAAAAAH!!!!

  • you can see george using the other pale blue of john's in gimme some truth were they are playing how do you sleep

  • I play the guitar (somewhat) and can play zeppelin stuff, queen stuff basically all of hard rock guitar. To this day I have more trouble figuring out George Harrison guitar phrases & licks than other guitar virtuosos. Not saying I can play everything those great groups do is just more of a challenge to learn a george harrison lick. Wonder why?

  • @fairyfellermaster because he's awesome. :)

  • Is it just me or does the neck on the strat next to him look longer then normal?

  • When was that? Can anyone answer me, please?

  • Very nice segment. Altough Fender guitars are expensive, we are used maybe to watch them in some friend´s hand or live, but back then I guess watching a real Fender, any Fender, would be like watching something from outer space...nice interview.

  • When he got older, his nasally cute voice got more mature.

  • I'm kind of glad he didn't get the Fender real early on like he wanted, since the Gretsch had a distinctive kind of a country-rock sound in the early Beatle recordings that made the lead playing sound unique.

  • George Harrison Bought his Strat, and from that day forward, neever played his Gretsch in public at least

  • @capitolemiproducer i saw the beatles playing nowhere man in the u.s live,i always wonder why he still play gretsch

  • @hanghang71

it was just because of the look, john also used his ricky till almost the end, except the end when they sometimes used their gibson casinos (like the japan performances) and george used his gobsin sg live on 2 occasions.

  • @capitolemiproducer

actually he never played his fender live with the beatles, he used his gibosn SG 2 times, one was recorded (munich concert of 66) and one not (nme 66).

  • George harrison was such an amazing soul. Quite ironic for someone with a reserved personality to end up in the beatles. Anyway I don't think the songs would've sounded the same had they been played on fenders instead of gretschs. I like the grestchs sound better for that particular period, the early days. well is well ,i love the beatles.

  • i hate fucking cancer.

  • @howdoyousleepyoucunt No shit, mother fuck cancer!

  • Where is this from?

  • oh my god George Harrison had the cutest voice EVER!!!! :3

  • What program is this clip from? I'm still rather amazed John and George would just send Mal Evans out to get their gear! I bet any music shop, or the Fender rep in Britain, would have gladly accommodated them so they could try out various models privately, away from the fans, etc.

  • @dumont1957 It's the 40th anniversary of the strat documentary. I taped it when it was 1st on the tele, watched it dozens of times then lost it. Its a great program and well worth a watch. Let me know if you ever find it on here or anywhere else :)

  • @dumont1957 Maybe they are glad to comp musicians now with the promise of a print ad by said musician but back then it was still a cottage industry. Tony Iommi played a Strat on one or two tracks from the first Black Sabbath album, The Strat got messed up in some manner and he had a back up with his Gibson SG. He wanted to use a Strat but in England it was difficult to get a guitar let alone a left handed one.

  • i want Fender make a special model of George's Rocky

  • wow George wanted to play a Fender instead of Grestch in the early days..

    What a revelation!

The Beatles couldve bought the Fender factory if they wanted

  • Too bad the light is so terrible and no one asked him why it's called "Rocky."

  • @thedps1998 Dude! I was thinking that as well, Why is it called "Rocky?"

  • @DasGoldenBoy After "Rocky Racoon". Paul wrote the song, but George titled it, and then Paul went back and altered the lyrics accordngly.

  • I miss you Georgie... ♥ a lot...

  • Someone asked where "Rocky" is now. I sat next to at the Hard Rock Cafe in Niagara Falls, Canada when I was there last summer. They had it is a special glass case on the wall next to our table. Don't know if it is still there.

  • does that strat look super mega contoured to anyone else

  • does somebody have any idea of what is that he plays, like what chords are does ?

  • Please George,

From the Heaven, send me the experience to know how to paint a Stratocaster like your Rocky guitar!

    RIP grand George

    i miss you

  • 3:19

"I had a feeling of 'oh what a shame'"

And then George's fury comes out as the FLAMES APPEAR IN THE LAST SECOND OF THE VIDEO!!!!!

  • "Ringo" fans.... In honor of Ringo's 70th, I hope U will check out my "RINGO"video. It's very retro with Beatleish touches & was done as a labor of love and with the utmost respect for the Fabs. My attempt at putting a little bit of the Beatle spirit out there for Beatle fans. It's also my tribute to George Harrison's slide playing as well as Ringo's unique style.

    Peace,

Vinnie Zummo, former Joe Jackson guitarist

  • George & John got there Strats while making the HELP LP, They played it on, Your gonna lose that girl and it was used on the overdub for Ticket to Ride.

  • Needless to say, he is so cool...

  • w8...he got pattie's eyeshadow and nail polish there???

  • Too bad they didn't ask him why it's called Rocky.

  • Such a modest guy. Despite all his fame, seems he he was just a normal bloke who you could have had a good chat with over a pint.

  • oh george, why did you have to go :(

  • George Harrison's words had some a kind of wisdom in every thing...y' know

  • fender should so make a Rocky replica!! or at least a George Harrison signature!! and send all the procedes from the sales to his charity:D!!

  • Miss you George.

  • I believe George featured this strat "Rocky" in the "I am the Walrus" video from the Magical Mystery Tour movie. It's in the first part of the video when John is sitting at the piano. Paul is to George's right, and Ringo is there with his drums. They are out in that abandoned air strip in Kent.

  • George Harrison - Great guitarist, singer, and songwriter. You are missed !

  • fantastic !!

I'm just trying to paint my strato looks like "Rocky".

    It's very valuable video.

I'm looking for the data of backside of Rocky.

    good job!

  • @LUDWIDANDWOLFGANG:

    Me too!

  • I love these interviews of George on YouTube -- I could listen to him talk for hours!!! TY TY TY for posting this! :-)

  • AURORA SKYE...I scrolled down to post the exact same words you did. I just love listening to George talk, sing and read about him a lot too!!! George has had an

huge impact on my life. Georgie Fans Forever. lol

  • Hi there MsteriousMelinda -- That is so neat that you feel the same way == I am always happy to "meet" fellow George fans!!! I love him so! :-)

  • AuroraSkye: I know what you mean.....George has such a great speaking style.....he can make absolutely anything sound interesting.

  • @AuroraSkye Agree...listening to George is a real pleasure...he's so educated and quiet...not only a great guitarist but also a great lad!

  • A little fact: George's 'Rocky' Fender Strat's serial number is 83840. I haven't been able to find out Lennon's, if anyone knows it please post. And the Harrison family still has 'Rocky' it's not in a museum anywhere as far as I know.

  • Yes the Harrison family still has it. His son Dhani plays it from time to time with his band thenewno2.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong I think what he is referring to at the very end of this ivideo is how MJ sold the beatle songs to CBS

  • Comment removed

  • Since George was talking guitars here I believe he was referring to Leo Fender selling The Fender Guitar Co. to CBS in 1965.

  • Ok, I was just speculating

  • The CBS thing was referencing when Leo Fender sold his guitar company to CBS. I think.

  • to acornab: yeah, George is refering to Leo Fender selling his company to "CBS". The story I heard was that Leo Fender had some on going illness that he thought he was going to die from....he could not handle the day to day business anymore...so he sold it. Ended up That Leo recovered and eventually started G&L guitars

  • thx

  • It's hilarious to find out he wanted a strat & we all loved Gretsch's cuz of him! At least it IS documented that he loved his Gretsch Duo Jet before that.

  • "Some of APttie Boyds eyeshadow and nail polish"

    LULZ.

    George is so cute.

  • Have you any details about this interview, like year, where, who did it, for what programme?

By the way, thank you so much, these unknown jewels are so precious!

  • Although I can't be certain, I would say, by the way George looks, this was around 1990, Wilburys Vol 3 time

  • great video , 5*****

    love is all trevor sizzle
