  • If I'm not mistaken, you could have simply assigned the right note that is already set for the choke in SP2, to your choke trigger of your cymbal.

  • ah nice one that sorted out my cymbal choke. It's not perfect but it does work very nicely.

  • Hey check out my video with a song made with Superior Drummer 2.0.

  • Nice detailed video man :)

  • is there a playlist programming feature? Like that in Ultra-Beat? I'm a newbie at programming drums and can't play to save my life, but I am a pretty strong guitar player and I'd like to be able to come up with beats on the fly.

  • Hey Mike, your videos are really helpful, subscribed to your channel, but i have a problem. i recently bought Roland TD- 9KX drumset, really nice, but i want to connect my drumset to pc with superior drummer 2.0 for cooler sounds. But my soundcard doesn't have a midi port, so do you think i could buy the midi/usb adapter and connect to my computer? I mean, would it work if i connect my drumset and my pc with this midi/usb cable? Thanks in advance :)

  • But how do you make you cymbal choke then? Because I don't think my DTXtreme IIS module doesn't give a signal for that ... If I choke it, nothing happens in Superior drummer.

Also my Hihat is a problem, I can only have it closed or opened, so I always play with hihat open 3.

I hope you can help me!

  • Hi! Very nice the cymbal choke section. I'm using Sonar 3 (yeah, oldie), no e-drumkit, just programming beats with the sequencer internal piano roll. I succesfully achieved a nice sounding crash choke after messing with the decay time as you suggested. When I left mouse click the crash, it sounds nice to me. What I can't figure out is how to trigger that sound from the midi track that's playing the beat and fills. Whenever I playback my beats, all I listen to is the unmuted crash cymbal. Help?

  • PLEASE HELP ME I´M A DRUMMER ,. AND I WANTED TO INSTALL THE SUPERIOR DRUMMER ONLY. I DOWNLOADED THE FULL PROGRAM WITH THE TOONTRACK SOLO AND INSTALLED THE SP AND ITS SOUND SOFT. BUT I CAN´T RUN IT . WHEN I OPEN THE TOONTRACK SOLO IT ASK ME TO LOAD A PROJETC ( WHICH I DON´T KNOW WTF IT MEANS) AN THEN IT SAYS " FAILED TO OPEN DRUMMER LIBRARY) PLEASE HELP ME . P.S YOU´RE ONE HELL OF A DRUMMER

  • would u be interested in laying down drum tracks for a few songs?

  • is it posibble to adjust the range of velocity? cuz i have to hit super hard the get the biggest sound sample it has

  • what if you want to start a custom drumkit from scratch with out those clear see through ones? i want to use different drums from the metal foundry and dfh and the ny avatar but it just ends up as stacking on top of each other

  • I can choke my cymbals thanks to this video but I can't record the chokes.

I have SD 2.0 and upgraded to 2.1 hoping it would help and it didn't.

I have a Yamaha DTXtreme III with updated firmware to 1.02.

It goes into my Macbook Pro via USB (tried midi cable too). The Mac has Logic 9 and I checked to make sure that Aftertouch wasn't being filtered out.

I also have Addictive Drums and with it I can record the chokes fine.

Any idea why I can't record the chokes with Superior Drummer?

  • my superior drummer shows me triangles on all the cymbals and drums. and when i start the program up it says "the soundstat file of the "superior" product has an unusable format. this may indicate a faulty "sound path". what can help?

  • @EVguitarsNW same problem here, help please

  • can I use that Software without using a real drumset?

  • The only thing missing in SD is a verb.

  • mikeyvpt your one of the best music tech dudes on youtube, you always respond to peoples comments. good work man.

  • Not real clear on the choke. I have a Yamaha DTXpress IV which will choke through the module but doing what you say doesn't choke through Superior.

  • cool stuff man!

I have buyed the ezdrummer, and using an el-drum whit a MIDI cable.I wanna buy the superior drummer too, but what is the big different of ezdrummer and superior drummer?

Sorry about the bad english :D

  • weird following your advice i got the choke to work first time but it wouldnt give me any decay it just cut it off like someone pressed stop on a cd player. didnt save the project and now ive come back about 15 times and cant get it to even do anything, this program is horribly thought out cant believe they dont make something like this easy to do

  • firewire doesnt have zero latency? i have a firepod and a firebox, neither of them give me zero latency, but pretty damn close.

only internal sound cards directly plugged into the motherboard give zero latency

  • I can't load sound librqaries or patches on my SD2 ...can u tell me ehat to do?...I'll appreciate

  • Hi Mikey. I´m trying to start running my superior, but it won´t start. I also have an E-Drumkit (TD-10), and would be great to use both together. I´m not sure what am I doing wrong, so if you could help me.... thanx a lot

  • @mikeyvpt. hi ive got a dell pc which is about 5 years old. it was expensive but had pretty good specs for its time. i have an alesis io and im getting a presonus firebox. do you think an average pc has the power to run these programs lagg free or do you recomend only using newer systems such as dual or quad core processers?

  • check out steven slate drums ex edition. there is an amazing deal happening right now. they are selling it for 20 dollars which is about £12. it is the same sort of quallity as things like addictive or superior. go have a look. someone on youtube told me about it and as soon as i saw and heard it i bought it.

  • Hey, and just to close out my thoughts here; Mikey VPT seems to me to be a fine musician who is properly using and promoting a useful tool. None of my comments were directed at anyone in particular, but rather at a net result of inexpensive production taking a lead to creative outlet. That is all... ghoppa out.

  • Hopper, yes i agree with you entirely. I must say, as a composer, i've spent way too much time with soldering irons and tech manuals, when i shouldve been creating. That caused major derailment and loss of inspiration. Your humble opinion is spot on. There seems to be a small breed of music mechanics where once were artists.

  • Hopper, as someone who has been recording for 40 years, i think you'll find that statement to be total crap. Sound quality ( TONE ) is everything. Why do you think guys would spend a day in the studio setting up the kit before the sessions start ? As a guitarist, i know if my tone is happening, so will i . I understand what youre trying to say regarding evoking emotion and the importance of it, but if my guitar sounds like shit, guess which emotion i'm likely to evoke.

  • @peemgee I agree with you, but I think you missed my point. It's all for not if you don't have something to convey. Tone alone is worthless, unless it's being used as a tool to transfer something worth listening too. I see all too many people today spending too much time with their toys and too little time understanding and developing their craft. It makes for tons of high quality, unlistenable crap that one must sift through to find something worth of being called music. Just my humble opinion.

  • Loved the snare. When you were playing rims, how much of that signal was spill into the vocal mic ? Also at the listening end, for me the snare was just a bit too large on the peaks. I guess that can be reigned in easily . Great stuff. Cheers.

  • Sound quality is the least important part of making music. Evoking emotion is what it's about. I have nothing against digital production or editing in any way, but for many it becomes a distraction from what is important. This is true even in traditional production. That's the only point I was trying to make.

  • Removing the life from music one click at a time.

  • It's called innovation

  • I play all my drum tracks... and trust me, the drum room I use on my tracks is MUCH better than my basement could offer. My music has MUCH MORE LIFE using VPT Drum Software!

    -mikey

  • @goldenhopper I can understand why you say this, but for people that can't drum, can't afford a drum kit, or aren't in a band it's perfect for laying down realistic sounding drum tracks.

  • fag. you totally missed the point of this software.

  • Comment removed

  • i already own a ddrum elec kit, will that work with this software, my ddrum has 10 channels and 10 outputs. i dont own a mixer but was going to use a usb-midi to send it to my computer and then assign each individual drum track to its own channel in cubase. ddrum is good but the newer software sounds so much better. does all the new software.... superior, addictive, bfd, dfh work like this.

  • Mikey, I want to replace the toms on my dkfh kit to the toms from the n.y avatar set using x-drum. But i don't know how to.

Any help you can give would be great.

    Cheers.

  • You click on X-Drum. An extra drum pops up. Now here, you have to select which type of drum you want (kick, snare, etc.), and there is another drop down menu that offers which SDX or EZX pack the drum comes from. Now that you have your X-Drum, you have to match the MIDI note to the electronic drum you want it play from. You can then select the new drum in the bottom right corner of SD2.0. Select it and hit the learn button - strike your drum and you'll be set!

Let me know if that helps!

  • That's great cheers, works perfectly.

  • BTW, I got a question Mike but it may seem a 'lil off-topic(?)..lol..anyways..

I would like to use either iTunes or Windows Media Player to play along to MP3 songs but they both complain that the sound device is already in use when I have Toontracks open. I think that I can use a sequencer software and set up separate tracks for the Midi input (drums) and the mp3 file but I thought there would be too much overhead for my little laptop to deal with. Any suggestions would be appreciated..

  • Whenever I try to use any VSTplugin & either open "Toontrack Solo" or "Sonar 8"...the MP3 software just can't seem to work. It says all this stuff an output interrupts it~ I'm guessing it's the MIDI interface but I know there's a way for playing an MP3 file in your laptop/PC while any kind of host is open~

  • Mikey, the cymbal choke in this video kind a sounds fake. No offense, but drummer can know it's fade out too quick. If you make the envelope a little bit longer (eg 0.4 ms) does it choke naturally like acoustic cymbal? So it still has ringy sound after choke

    Thanks.

  • Hey there!

Just wondered if you could shed some light on how to configure the hi-hat controller (foot prdal) within cubase. I have got my hats working fine when using superior drummer solo because there is an e drum preset available which configures the controller pedal. However, when I load superior as a vst instrument within cubase the e drum preset is no longer available because the menu is not there. The problem I have no is that the hats remain constantly open even when the pedal is down

  • Doesn't matter now. Sorted it. Had to set my roland td9 brain to transmit midi c4 controller data that is compatible with external devices.

  • Do you need firebox because i can't afford alesis trigger and firebox =(

  • It's not absolutely necessary, but it's a nice thing to have. You can also use a free plugin called ASIO4ALL if you're worried about latency.

Go to VirtualPercussionOutlet(.com) for the best prices and free tech support!

    -mikey

  • @MikeyVPT Its all good now i got a great creative sound card and zero latency with asio4all!! I use toontrack solo to help me its awesome!

  • then what's the point in buying it at all?

  • Well, I guess the point is to have a great sound card. @Animeaz doesn't need one, but it sounds like @djrotten does.

    -mikey

  • ah, so would you say to go without it but if you have too much latency without it then buy it?

  • If using a laptop

    (core 2 duo 2.2 Ghz)

how important would you say having an external hard drive is? starving artists don't always have a lot of cash, lol.

  • If you have room on your computers hard drive, then you'd be fine! I would recommend to have at least 2 gigs of RAM, too.

Check out my site if you're interested in more info: VirtualPercussionOutlet(.com)

    Thanks, buddy!

    -mikey

  • Cool videos! Thanks

  • Thank YOU!

    -mikey

  • How do cymbal chokes work?

And is there anything to reproduce bass drops?

  • how to you make a midi note/command to choke the Cymbals?

  • ok... i am VERY new to this program... I am running it through garage band... HOW THE HELL DO I GET THE DRUM KIT 2 SHOW UP!? i have ezplayer pro if that helps... IM VERY CONFUSED

  • Go torrent Logic :)

  • Logic is mac, Windows is the best compatible system still. therefore, even though logic and pro tools are nice, Rather not be limited and use Cubase/Nuendo

  • what drumkit do you use dude? its not the standart pop/rock kit isnt it? cuz i don have the black buity snare :o

  • You don't? I wouldn't check to make sure you do. If you don't, I'd suggest getting some of the new SDX or EZX packs! They are really nice. I would appreciate it if you got them at my store!

    VirtualPercussionOutlet(.com)

    Thanks!

    -mikey

  • Nice video man.

Can you tell me is it possible to get that big 80s snare drum sound with superior drummer?

  • Thanks!

And YES! Not only can I get any snare or kit sound, but the SDX and EZX packs have some really killer presets that take you from basement recording to professional drum studio in seconds.

Check it out at my site: VirtualPercussionOutlet(.com)

If you email us and mention that you've watched the videos, we give you a discount!

    -mikey

  • Hi!, good video, thanx!.

Can I ask something?... I would like to know if I could put some effects such as reverb or delay to each part of the drumms like snare or cymbals with this this software.

    Greetings from Colombia!.

  • Hi! Thank you for watching!

YES! Many effects come WITH Superior Drummer 2.0!

You can get it at VirtualPercussionOutlet(.com)

    -mikey

  • gooey? GUI man, G-U-I, Gee You Eye, lol

  • Hahaha... I haven't heard anyone call it a G.U.I. in a looooong time! You're just keeping it old skool, and I appreciate that!

    -mikey

  • hey MikeyVPT! how do you record you e-drums with superior drummer or drum kit from hell?

    plz reply

i have a yamaha DTXpress IV

  • can u record using this

  • Of course! it's PERFECT for recording! Check it out at: VirtualPercussionOutlet(.com) for more info!

    -mikey

  • How would you go about using Superior 2.0 to record Midi using an acoustic kit with just clip on trigger bugs for the bassdrum snare and toms?

  • run your triggers into the alesis trigger i/o. the i/o goes into your computer through usb and contols the nidi notes.

  • I think you need a sequencer for that...for example "Fruity Loops"...i recorded triggered drums once with Nuendo :) works great.

  • hey toontrack makes a drum replacement software. you can record you drums using mics and have the snare and kick trigger clicks go to sperate channels as an audio file then run it through the drum replacer to make a midi track the simply run that midi track through superior 2. havnt actually done this but im sure it would work.

  • That kit looks tasty. How much did it run you? There are no dealers even remotely close to NY.

  • not everyone has such lenient neighbours as you. Or wants to set up a full kit every time they want to jam over a loop.

christ some people are just retarded.

  • Are you referring to using an acoustic kit or an electronic kit?

  • acoustic. in refernece to the guy calling you a nerd for programming your drums.

  • Good man! I think it's easier to just have my kit set up, then jam/record just by turning on my computer, ya know?!

    -mikey

  • can i use the alesis io2 interface for 0 latency?:) thanx i will apreciate it

  • Visit

    VirtualPercussionOutlet(.com)

    We ship internationally!

    -mikey

  • you guys are nerds... buy a reall drumset its alot easier to set up and play

  • Hahaha... nerds! I think it's awesome that kids think recording and playing with the best and most professional drum sounds is nerdy ;-)

Also, if you've ever gotten into pro recording, mostly everything is done with software anyway. If you've ever tried mic'ing your drum set, and recording perfectly every time, you'd know that I could do a track in the time it would take you to setup. Think about it.

    -mikey

  • Hey. I installed S2.0 on my laptop and when I try to use it, it says I need an ASIO device. Is that what the PreSonus firebox is for? How did you get around it?

  • Yes, that's what the Firebox is for... but you can also try ASIO4ALL. Just google it and download. it's free and relieves most of the latency. Try it out and let me know how it works! (You'll have to work with its settings for best results with your computer).

    -mikey

  • Hey Mikey, i just tuned my TD-12 to work with s2.0 - it works perfectly and sounds amazing!

is it a good way to make a video about that?

  • Hey Mikey, excellent videos you've got here! I'm seriously jealous of your rig, too. Anyways, I'm commenting because I'm having trouble getting my edrums to trigger in S2. I was wondering where the option was located in S2 to set your MIDI device, as well as your audio device (as stated in your video description.) My audio device is already set in Cubase. I find that the S2 manual is lacking. For reference, I'm using M-Audio Firewire Audiophile, Roland TD-5, and Cubase SX3 for the host program.

  • If you open a MIDI track, you then need to open S2 as a VST instrument (press F11 and choose S2). On the side, you'll select that as your output, then your MIDI interface as your input. That should get the ball rolling!

Let me know how it goes!

    -mikey

  • Hi Mikey,

    Excellent video!

Just a quick one, i'm looking at getting this program, however as i dont play drums i'm wondering whether its possible just to write a track in midi and then just let it play the sounds like in ableton? I want to write my own drum tracks (as i cant find a drummer who will!!) but really want it to sound like the real deal. Any advice?

    Cheers

  • You can always open the MIDI key editor and do it that way. Or you can use EZPlayer Pro. Both are good options to create drum tracks. OR, you can just hire me to do it for you :-)

    Thanks for the comment!

    -mikey

  • Hey, I hear all these people saying that firebox has 0 latency. So I went out and bought one, but theres a latency menu and I have to choose somewhere between 8-12. Can you please explain this to me? When jamming with people I would love to have less crackles and less latency :(

  • "Latency" in the FB is just a term that, when you change it, adjusts your buffer sizes. All you need to do is adjust it to your computers liking. I have mine on either 4 or 8 depending if I'm playing live or just recording. You also should change your audio settings for the software, also. If you're using a recording program as a host, you'd change the settings there, instead.

    Does that make sense?

    -mikey

  • The hosts I've tried all just open or point to the FB control panel in the options. I'm still confused though, how come you say it has 0 latency?

  • The FB has zero latency, the overall VPT system has no more than 2ms, which is standard.

You have to make sure it's dialed in to your computer for maximum playability.

    -mikey

  • can you answer me this? I use cakewalk sonar and the latency is fine at 8-12ms. But sometimes *usually when other programs are running, sometimes not* the latency goes wayyyy higher, I would estimate somewhere around 50ms which is ridiculous. then I hate to hit tools-options-ok for it to get back down, any idea how to make sure this doesnt happen?

  • Wow men

thank you so much for this video!!

I just Read that toontrack has just released Superior Drummer Vol 2 (expansion pak) can´t wait to get it!

    Thanks for the videos!!

Question: Whats VPT?? (Virtual Player... Toontrack??)

    Cheers!

  • Thanks!

Yeah, the FIRST SDX is going to be Sick! Allaire Studios is one of the most beautiful looking AND sounding studios I know of. You better believe there will be a MikeyVPT video coming soon for that ;-)

VPT stands for Virtual Percussion Technology. It's the idea of using a real feeling and looking electronic kit, with drum software to get real drum sounds.

No more mesh and rubber, just VPT!

    -mikey

  • I Have A Lexicon Omega USB Interface With A MIDI In & Out. Can Use Superior Drummer 2.0 If I Connect It To The MIDI Out Of My Alesis DM5 Module Or Do I Need An Alesis I/O?

  • Yes, the DM5 midi out should work just fine.

  • Actually...

It depends on a few things:

If you have an edrum kit that has dual zone pads, the DM5 module won't support it. If you need/want two zones (like rim and head, or ride bell and body), you would do well to add the Trigger Io.

    -mikey

  • I notice you working on Cubase,is it compatible with Logic and generally Apple software too?

  • You better believe it!

    Thanks for watching!

    -mikey

  • i don't have asio :( :(

  • Download ASIO4ALL... it's free!

    -mikey

  • Same here...I cant set the libraries up manually. Can u come up e little bit more specific about this mike.

  • Hmm... I'm not in front of my VPT setup, so bear with me:

There should be a little tab somewhere on the library page - you'll need to select Avatar - then from there, you'll need to 'browse' for where your SD2 audio files are kept - most likely your C drive under Program Files, under Toontrack/Superior Drummer 2 - select the folder which contains the audio.

That should do it. Let me know if that works for you!

    -mikey

  • hey man , please can you tell me how to set the library sound ..i cant thru ..its saying "u need to set ur library source" or something like that ...

can u tell me how to do that ..thx

  • All you have to do is find where you installed your sounds.

For example... I've got mine on my external hard drive, so I locate my external, and choose the folder containing my SD2.0 samples!

    Does that make sense?

    -mikey

  • Hi there mikey, I have a low budget and Im going to buy myself a digital drumset (Millennium MPS-400) and connect it to my computer using EZDrummer or Superior Drummer 2.0.

What do you think I should use, that do I need to set up this?

    Thanks

  • Hmm... you'll need a MIDI to USB interface/cable.

Other than that, you'll need to download ASIO4ALL to help with the latency.

    That should be about it!

    -mikey

  • well I tried to install ASIO4ALL and it didnt do anything. Do I have to un-install my realtek sound card drivers first? I don't get it, the latency is still the same

  • Try opening ASIO4ALL and working with the settings. Downloading it is the first step :-)

    -mikey

  • hey mikey great videos

im currently using a alesis trigger i/o and superior 2.0 and have followd your instructions on how to choke the cymbal but its still not happening. Do i need to set the midi note number on the i/o for cymbal choke? and if so what is it?

    thnaks again matey

    luke

  • You have the right idea. As long as your choke note is set for where you want your choke, you should be all set... did you get it?

    -mikey

  • hey i have a question...

i want to trigger an acoustic drum set with the alesis I/O i already triger al the drums but how can i trigger the cymbals and hi hats?

  • Good question... I'd just get electronic cymbals. You can find great prices for packages at:

    VirtualPercussionOutlet (.) com

    Thanks!

    -mikey

  • is there any other way to do that with a less expensive triggers?

  • i dont know if this is what ur looking for but but a control pad mabey ? like the trigger finger

  • excelent. but i need help with the setting of my hi-hat( vh12) with superior 2.0.

can you send me the information about the midi mapping for this?

i cant setting the splash foot and the " close to open sound", because this have a cut in the sound , i don´t know why. i think i´m loosing samplers because i have a bad routing on the midi numbers in the hi-hat.

can you give me a hand?

by the way, i have a roland td-20 .thanks again.and very nice video.

  • 2 Questions:

    1. I don't understand how an Interface can have zero latency, i'd understand zero seconds so under 0.5 seconds?

    2. What are the specs of your laptop?

  • Do you ever miss not having a module?

I'm thinking of getting a TD-12 to upgrade from my TD-3 module. My kit (all Roland) has four 8" mesh heads, 2 crashes, a CY-5 "hats", a ride and a mesh kick.

Anyway, I'm thinking of upgrading the module and maybe the snare to a 10". That sort of thing (just those two upgrades) ISN'T inexpensive, however! Your more bare-bones but possibly better sounding setup has me thinking.

What's your take on the module/no-module issue?

  • Maybe you haven't seen the other videos?!

I have NEVER missed a module. There is nothing about a module that I enjoy... not the canned sound, not the CRAZY price tag... not a thing.

The RET drums are vastly superior in design, quality, appearance, and playability (trust me, I've owned both).

I don't mean to sound abrasive, but RET Percussion with VPT is SO much better.

Thanks for the subscription. Let me know if you have any other questions, I mean it!

    -mikey

  • *edited for space

I turn semi seq off on snare, cymbals, and kick, since it is a very random, almost sporadic sound; resulting more (in my opinion of course, this isn't fact) a sloppy drummer instead of a "humanizer". You have layers of around 10-20 hits, so pulling from adjacent layers isn't really neccassary, since a solid drummer wont hit the same way every time, but he will hit in general area (not in the 50-100 layers if he is going for 80). Just an opinion.

  • I know exactly what you mean. I actually do this as well, and it works great.

I just keep the chokes set at 0.1ms and explain it that way because it's a bit easier to explain.

It's nice to know that there are others out there that know a thing or two about a thing or two! I try to give as much info as possible... so, I can use all the help I can get!

    -mikey

  • Not to knock how you mute the cymbal, but there is another way to have more control over your chokes. Select the mute articulation (cymbals 1-5), select edit articulation only, and then turn off semi seq. Semi sequence will pull from adjacent layers (a velocity of 80 may give you a 50 or a 100 layer pool). Once that is off, your velocity will effect the type of mute (hard and quick on the hardest, and a mute to stop ringing after 3-4 seconds).

  • is superior drummer working only with a real electronic drumkit or is there, as with ezdrummer the possibility to use it as a midi-like plugin?

  • You can use it with an RET Percussion kit... AND as a plugin for use with a midi keyboard or controller.

It's a big step up from EZdrummer :-)

    -mikey

  • Toontrack made it seem that you can drag&drop just as many cymbals and drum parts as you want. BTW How many individual bassdrum sounds are there? How much can you modify the sound, as in pitch/transponse?

  • You certainly CAN use the X-Drum option, where you create more and more drum/cymbal parts.

I think there are 4 that come with SD2.0, but the control over the sound is incredible. Full EQ, Filter, Compressor, Gate... and tuning is no problem at all.

    -mikey

  • Ah man! That sounds so awesome!

So you can tune up/down thus change the pitch and attack of the kicks? That's incredible!

  • Just last Friday, I played a gig at a sound engineer's nightmare of a bar!

BUT, I was using Superior 2, and I changed the pitch, level of attack, then EQ'd my kit to the room so it sounded AMAZING! Then I saved my presets as the name of the bar. That way, when we play there next month, I can use that preset ;-)

Virtual Percussion only gets better! The RET kits make it all SUPER playable.

    -mikey

  • My goodness! I've GOTTA get me that rig one day.

    What e-kit are you using?

  • You definitely DO! I'm using the RET Percussion kit. This one is called the Stealth model. It's a more compact kit than their other kits. RET is actually the First to use drum software. They've created such an acoustic looking/feeling drum set, that it's so easy to switch from my a's to this e-kit.

I just can't play anything rubber or mesh. Too hard, or too bouncy.

Anywho, thanks for watching, and thanks for subscribing :-)

    Any other questions?

    -mikey

  • Alright! That sounds so incredible.

No more questions, thanks to you. It's great what you're doing, promoting the RET Percussion and answering questions.

    Cheers!

  • And btw can I ask you what is your favourite setup in that kit..?What cymbals and snare you like most..?And tom sizes..? :-)

  • I like the RET Fusion Pro-CX for an ekit. That's the setup I have now, but with 13" snare, floor tom, and kick.

As for software samples, I like a snare that isn't TOO tight, a kick that has depth/warmth/punch, and toms that ring enough to be heard before they decay. The cymbals in SD2.0 sound SO real in a live setting.

    Does that answer your question?!

    -mikey

  • Thnaks thanks :)

  • That's awesome program! And cool how you can find all thoose real cymbals from that program..Wow! Does thoose drumlibrary programs work in any drumkit,or only in thoose expensive kits like RET percussion..? So can you get that working in for example in ordinary Roland e-drumkit..?

  • I've read too much about how Roland kits aren't working so well with the Alesis Trigger IO.

That makes sense because the IO was designed to work with real drum heads... not mesh.

Besides, if you're going to play and hear drum software, it only makes sense to use something that will feel as real as the samples you're hearing, ya know?

  • Yes yes,okay.. Thanks for answer!

  • what size is your samsung LCD?

  • That one is a 17" or 22", I forget...

Because I just upgraded to a 32" Visio!!!

    Oh.. My... Goodness.

    -mikey

  • Yes !, that is the way to do it !

  • superior 2 is 18 Gigabyte :-)

  • Huge!

I am LOVING it right now. I have so many preset kits all based off of a few of the drums I really like.

    It's so good :-)

    -mikey

  • Hey Mikey,

You know a good place to find superior drummer 2 presets?

  • Hmm... to be honest, I've got some really great ones, but I'm kind of under contract not to give them out.

I don't know exactly where you would go, but I would check the ToonTrack forum to see if anyone has something to offer.

    What kit are you using?

  • great vid finally

  • Thanks, mouimen.

That comment means a lot to me.

  • If you're reading this:

Once again, I will be posting the third and final video (video 2.0) as soon as this one reaches 2,000.

You folks don't give me a chance to sleep! I like that ;-)

  • Finally a video using the actual interface. Ive been planning on buying this. Would you reccomend this for programming? I make my drum tracks in a program called Tabit. Then i export midi from there, then import it into Cubase le 4. Im tired of the crappy DFH sounds and want more control over each individual piece. You think with enough tweaking, s2.0 could get some good metal sounding kits? Thats what im afraid of, buying it, and not getting the sounds i want. Thanks for the vid.

  • DANiMAL! I use EZdrummer, with DFH, and after reviewing both, I will say that although I love both EZD and SD2.0, Superior Drummer 2.0 gives you MUCH more control! You can add a compressor, gate, a 5 band EQ. You CAN get a metal sound with SD2.0. The snare and kick are especially programmable. SD2.0 comes with EZPlayer Pro. With this you can actually create beats from any MIDI track they have, then use them in Cubase! Verdict: GET IT!!!

  • I can't wait for more. This is great stuff Mikey!

  • Why thank you, VirtuaDrummer :-)

    -mikey

  • Thats cool stuff right there mate!! I really wanna play with toon track stuff but i can't trigger my kit to my PC :S i dont know how to lol, anyone who can help me out? i'd appreciate it!

    Peace

  • I hope you got my message about how to MIDI your kit.

Let me know what you think about the Alesis kit. I haven't heard Great things about them, but you get what you pay for, I suppose.

    Later!

    -mikey

  • the kit is a beast for beginners! and i will upload an review video of alesis dm5 pro kit soon when i am done with triggering my kit with EZdrummer :D

  • Any word on your kit with EZdrummer?

  • Very informative, Mikey. Great video. I'm not much of a talker so I just play in my videos but I think it's great how you really plan these out & take the time to show everyone the features of S2.0.

One thing you might wanna consider is using a program like Camtasia to capture your screenshot video and edit that in instead of trying to video the LCD monitor. Would make it easier to see and more professional. Just a thought.

Looking forward to pt. 2 and the playing :)

  • Chris,

    Thank you, thank you!

I'm going to check out Camtasia, for sure. Thanks for the heads up!

The playing is "okay" at best. I'm really just trying to show off the samples and what kinds of things you can do with S2.0.

Thanks for watching, Chris. I've been watching yours as well, bro. Always a fun grove!

  • And still mikey goes on about FW audio interface with "zero latency" without understanding what he he is talking about. That feature of "zero latency" has nothing to do with how his edrum stuff will perform. It is a feature that will affect recording via the mic/line inputs only.

  • The best way to limit latency "for your electronic drums" is using the "MIDI IN/OUT" on a sound card with good "ASIO" support... Decent card for good price (per most of the reviews I've found) is the "M-Audio Audiophile 2496" (About $100.)

Most of Mikey's reviews have been pretty good. He has gone a little nuts over this Firebox, though.. :-) I'm sure
