  • its the clutch cushions 100% just replace outter clutch basket and ull have a smooth bike again

  • Sounds like a flat tire

  • it's your crank rod it got up and down movement tha piston is hitting tha top of your header... i know.... and now u need a new piston and your mechanic can say he is not a mechanic b/c that is not normal

  • I know this is an old vid but others likely have the same problem with the CRF450r. And replacing the top end doesn't usually fix the problem. The problem is likely movement of the piston from side to side because the top of the connecting rod is worn. The pistons have very small skirts so this is a big problem on these bikes. Best way to fix it is to do the crank and rod combo. To test, pull the piston off and slide the pin through and see if it wiggles up and down on either side.

  • your mechanics a cock its rateling its tits off possibly the timing chain is worn or the timing chain tensioner or it could be your valves

  • Mine did this then seized...

  • do your valves

  • i like how 3 years later people are still commenting

  • hey man it's just a simple Valve problem u either need to replace them or they just need a simple adjustment , by the sounds they just need a adjustment and if it makes the same noise afterward I would recomend replacing them

  • all honda 450 does this.

  • my 2005 crf450r made the same noise and come to find out the valves was out of adjustment the wrong shims was put in and the rocker arms was farther away from the valve than they shouldve

  • i change all my valve & it sound de same

  • looks like a bird shit on your bike. get a gun..

  • check ur valve gap, and while ur at it ur timing too.

  • hideg te ökör,vagy nincsenek beverödve a szelepek vagy nem jo a hézag..baromarcú

  • Pull that engine out,install a freach cr500r engine! 2strokes ftw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pull the tank, pull the valve cover, use your feeler gauge, and see what the gap is on the rocker arms and the intake gap.

  • Comment removed

  • its either the small timing chain or the valve cap... its sounds exactly as my XR's engine.. and i fixed it right away to avoid some more bigger problems

  • Sounds normal to me i have the same bike and it has been very reliable.

  • its either ur valves need checking or ur cam chain my brother had this problem on his the problem was that the valves where too far out and catching on something just redo valves be fine then

  • did you put a new cam chain and a tensioner?, the cam chain tends to stretch just like your wheel chain.

  • its just the valves. if it gets hard to start, then take it in. nothing to worry about.

  • the problem is that u have a 4 stroke now if u got a 2 stroke this would never happen

  • SAME SOUND MAKES MY CRF450X I TOOK IT IN THEY REPLACE THE CAM TENSIONER THEN AFTER 5 HRS RIDIN IT STARTIN MAKIN THE SAME NOICE NOW THEY SAY ITS THE ROD .

  • its normal

  • yep pretty much

  • mine dose the same shit

  • could be the timing chain

  • pos hondas

  • check your valve clearence and check to see if your camshafts are wore(measure the lobes) if its all within specs check your connecting rod(may be stretched almost making the piston touch the valves) if thats good look over every bearing in the botton end if there all good check over your piston and dont forget to check for piston slap

  • Is this a valve problem ?

  • That crank is bouta got mine sounded just like that before it did. its from over revving.

  • um thats how crf's sound haha like shit get a ktm

  • by having the engine running and revving it up your doing more harm turn it off and take it to a mechanic.

  • shut the fuckin dogs up thats the noise youre hearing!!

  • you got that engine idling way too high.your head probably needs a rebuild

  • bang!

  • get a 2 stroke......

    04 banshee 4mil stroker

  • Asking the vast army of idiots on youtube probably isnt the best way to figure it out! :P

Your more likely to end up paranoid as fuck with people telling you its about to explode.......which it is by the way..i should know i work for NASA!

  • true that, so many fanboys out there that feel like then know everything about bikes that they dont even own

  • @bweafer23 its not a fuckin space ship lol

  • maybe connecting rod bushes are gone :( try to control the clutch basket slap

  • i once had similiar noice coming from mine. broken part was that spring that keeps valvechain tightened. its easy to check.

  • piston slap, band big end or crank bearings :-( turn it off before you fuck it up !

  • fuck that piece get a 2 stroke

  • i have a trx 450r and they have the same engine and it makes tht noise

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.... PLEASE CHECK OUT THE connecting rod

    y crankshaft ...

  • Sounds good to me! LET HER RIP

  • vavles are to tight do the ajustment quick if you dont cams will go bad

  • normal

  • could be just a simple valve ajustment, or it kinda sounds like the bearing that holds the connecting rod to the crank could be worn. idk hard to tell just from sound

  • could it be piston slap, bad wrist pin

  • you have noisey valve buckets, thats all. may be worn out valve guides, buddies 03 did that.

  • get a 2 stroke xD

  • @Cr250FULTROTTLE ya right.

  • get the valves checked

  • is it diesel??

    jajaj jkdd

  • it's so hard to tell exactly what is making noise...and here it is coming from, especially on a youtube video and being there to actually pin-point the source. honda's do have a 'noisey valve' sound, my honda xl250 makes a sound similar to this. and it is not the valves, i have re-set them.. 0.005, and 0.008. and it still made the same noise

  • definitly needs a good lashing when 4 strokes get hot the valves warp basic maintenance bro

  • if thats the valves hitting the piston, surely it should be pretty screwed?

  • valves and bearing i wouldent even start it

  • valves need adjusted or maybe its the crank bearing

  • its your valve clearance, if you can do it yourself great, if not, take it to a shop. perhaps you will need new shims.

  • I've got a friend who's got an '07 CRF450x and it makes the same noise...

  • bearings in the motor

  • valves, just ajust them, its nothing big, there jus hittin your piston, once you do that, the noise will be gone

  • they dont hit the piston. the tick noise is the gap being to far between the rocker arm and the top of the valve

  • @penorwrinkle Agree, get a valve job. Valves, seats cut, guides, springs, the works.

  • sounds like the big end conrod bearing!!

  • just adjust the valves no dig deal

  • valves

  • crank bearings? thats what was blown on my old 04 CRF450R

  • sounds good, go ride.

  • I'm guessing that its the cam chain tensioner. Maybee the valves but I wouldn't expect it to idle that well if it needed the valves to be shimmed. I could be wrong but thats what I would have checked first.

  • it kinda sounds like the valves are clapping. mabye ajust them. im not an expert on 4 strokes tho

  • since this was two years ago you probly fixed it or sold it. did you find out what was wrong?

  • what ended up being the prob piston on valves

  • check the valve clearances first but it sounds like small or main bearing,

    Give it a rebuild!!

  • BEAST

  • at least he revs it like a 4 stroke and doesnt dream of it beeing a 2 stroke

  • get a ktm

  • mabe it is the choke?

  • dude like everyone says adjust ur valves man

  • change or adjust your valves or it could be the clutch

pull the clutch while the engine runs and maybe you aint gonna hear that noise

  • adjust your valves there jus out of adjustment it mad easy

  • its just the valves man

  • valves.

  • Gotta love the 4 strokes. Get out your checkbook. Time for a rebuild

  • i think your talking about a 2-stroke (time for a rebuild)

  • hi hey mate it is a common problem for the crf 450r to do that what it sounds like is it has droped a valve shim.If you pull the taper cover off n cant see it there it has fallen down to the bottom end. hope it helps

  • replace your timing chain ten-shiner i did the same thing, even if u got it replaced. if u pull it out an the nipple is loose then thats ur proplem

  • Valves need workin lol..

  • four strokes are nice.. but fuck you guys gotta get tired of shimming valves and checking pistons. I think im gonna keep my yz250 two stroke for a few more years!

  • yeah i got the yz250 07, i love 2 strokes, for the riding i do i dont want to change oil every ride and check valves all the time..but its time for an upgrade and the service honda cr500afs are a little too scary for me. but still on the fence..

  • Valves need adjusted. I had the same noise and everyone said it was nothing and to just run it. The tulip broke off of the valve and tore stuff up. Very expensive.

  • the valves need adjusted.

  • i hate the same noise with my 07 KX250F and it ended up being the crankshaft

  • check to make sure your rocker arms are tight...or in spec at least..if not they could be vibrating..which could lead to valve problems...if the noise is comeing from the bottom end it could be a loose or broken bearing..check it out

  • check valves. get them adjusted. check piston :P

  • i think it is the shims bud i have a 05 crf 250r and i had that noise so i changed the shims and it seems to have cured the problem

  • my 2003 has been doing this ever since i got it about a year ago. ive been riding it really hard for about a year with that sound and it hasnt done anything. ive always wondered what it was though. have you figured it out?

  • valve shims

  • dude i dont no about those hondas four strokes but those bikes got problems every body that i no that has those have problems with eather there valves or piston slap, but honda does have good 2 strokes fa show

  • nice bike other than ur valves

  • go to that mechanic, tell him to get on his knees then unzip your pants and slap him with your cock until his cheeks are red , because your valves need to be adjusted

  • uh dude like what the fuck???

  • sounds piston slappy....

  • yea i think its piston slap

  • well its definately not normal. I think your valves are WAY out of adjustment. esp if it is very hard to start cold and again when hot. Could be the cam chain but I do not think its a big problem. I had an 04 crf450.

  • Have you checked your muffler bearings?

  • lmao, i hope your joking

  • its your valves. they are clappin pretty good.

  • yup deff the valves, had that happen to a crf450r and blew the shit out of the motor.

  • your bars are bent

  • lifters hitting idk my 426 kinda makes it but it aint that bad

  • that would be the little rockers on top of the buckets are ratiling. you dont have the right valve shim size on the exhaulst valves

  • Loose cam chain? some one coulda forgot to release the cam chain adjuster

  • Most proberly the cam chain. brothers kxf was making the same noise. Or it could be the cam chain adjuster

  • i have on 05 crf450 it makes a simular noise but not as loud, it always has, just redid the valves still there everything is fine though runs perfect

  • adjust the valves

  • is it because the valves arent adjusted and there just wildly bounceing around.. although i still hear the valve bounce whistle

  • I think its valves...

  • ur con rods fucked mate u sould not run it it could be the shaft baering aswell

  • that is 2 minutes and 4 seconds of horrific engine neglect and abuse that the bike will never get back because this guy decided to run it rather then fix it like any person with half a brain would do. the damage could be a number of things caused by mods or neglect either way it will now need to be disassembled and gone through by someone who cares

  • Deffinitly your valves... suposed to adjust after breakin and every like 80 hours of riding

  • lol , try every 10-15 hours

  • yeah 80 hours 4 a ttr 125

  • 450R's need to be tweaked every 10 or so hours, they were made for racing so everything has to be in check when your riding them or everything will start fall apart on your.. trust me, i had a cr85 and one loose spoke blew my tire and i eventually ended up getting the honda 150f its a lot less maintence and its easy to maintane too.

  • It might be the timeing chain or ur valves check em out. gl

  • adjust the vaulves this happend to my 02 crf 450 i adjusted the vaulves and the noise went away

  • dude go ajust the valves before it gets fucked up

  • try adjusting you're valves

  • Whens the last time you adjusted the valves? Is it hard to start? If you haven't adjusted them lately and it is hard to start det them adjusted ASAP other than that its hard to say Maybe it was put together wrong I have an 04 it noisy but not that bad. Is there any oil in it? They will chatter but yours sounds really loud. good luck

  • Thats not normal

  • i have the same problem but it only happens when im riding slowly in the lower gears, when i get into 3rd gear the tapping stops...what could this be...same problem!?

  • the cam is too far of the valve so its smacking it and making a louded noise when it does touch.. stronger valve springs maybe or the cam needs moveing down .. . dont know alot about 4 stroke motor cross bikes but sounds like what it would be

  • i agree the timing chain is of making the rockers hit the cam get it fixed man

  • it could be the timing chain is of making the rockers hit the cam. bad timing can get ya man. and if it is get it fix asap. but nice bike by the way!

  • wich ever mechanics u tlked to i dont think they know anything about dirtbikes haha, its deffnatly the valves. You have to change those once in a while on 4 strokes. And if you keep running the bike like that its going to ruin other parts inside the engine.

  • valves!

  • its the powervalve.. the yz does it and my m8tz kdx 200 will wake the dead

  • Does 4 strokes even have powervalves?

  • i think so yeah

  • your connecting rod bearing in the lower end is junk. watch out though, they they go and will take the whole bottem end with it. just buy a new crank, lighter and stronger and makes it rev a lhell of a lot faster, trust me, it the lower end conencting bearing.

  • check your muffler gaurd, it could be rattling.

  • check the valves. nice ride btw

  • ummm and whats the point of this video!?!?!?

  • to ask whats rong width his bike read discription

  • hells yeah!

  • rev bollocks out of it, that'l sort it out

  • its prob the tappets knocking

  • valves or cam shaft.

  • could be the lower part of the rod moving up and down on the crank, my friend had a similair noise and ended up being that.

  • valve clearance

  • Cam chain.

  • valves, these go bad a lot

  • its def your valves 4 strokes valves get loose and need tightining from time to time no big deal.

  • thorughti over a cliff and go buy yourself a yz 450f >=]

  • dude i have a 426f and tht dude says its a girls bike well its not lol

  • mine sounds like when idling, and whistles (crankcase breather) when accelerating

  • i have the same bike and i put a full race muffler

  • i think its the valuve not work good or need to clean

  • You may want to scap that heap and buy a yamy

  • haha i love it when ppl try to convence other ppl into the opposing brand but i perfer a honda but the yamaha is also a good bike to have

  • sounds a little loud to me. Most of them do sound like that, just not that loud of ticking.

  • dude its your valves open the valve cover and tighten the springs to factory spec

  • my gasgas 200 has a simalar noise

  • Mine is doing the exact same thing, i took it to the shop but still waiting to hear what the problem is.. Maybe worn out cam chain i dunno. Did u find out what it was?

  • i cine of had the same thing on my bike.

there is a chain the runs off the chank up to the top to open and close the vavles. if it is loose the chain will rub and make that noise.

  • check ur valves

  • did u check the valves ..it almost sounds like valve knock

  • timing....

  • You had your piston changed, but the bore may be slightly out by a few thousandths, so you may want to get a bore-gauge and check the tolerances. Can't tell for sure, cuz the cam isn't picking the sound up very well over the exhaust, so it could be a few diff. things. I don't think it's the valve clearance, because valve lash is more of a tick than a knock, but one thing's for sure: That mechanic's an idiot. That is in NO WAY normal. Take it somewhere else.
