@theproplady Yes, the hairstyle on the Chigurh character was based on an extremely popular men's hairstyle from the '70s. It was everywhere on both sides of the Atlantic but it was really de rigeur for young British males.
Peter Cushings performance is so understated in this movie-bu he ist still so brilliant, he makes "low budget" movies worth watching just by being in them.
Okay, this is a building full of flats, right? Not an apartment building with concrete floors and walls, right? So in this one unit there is screaming and smashing glass and things being thrown about and women pounding on the door and yelling AND HOW IS IT THE NEIGHBOURS DON'T NOTICE A THING??? At least not until blood starts seeping through somebody else's ceiling!
0:17 - 4 wine glasses on the lamptable. They must have filmed this scene immediately after the seance scene. Or maybe he doesn't tidy up; like most single men who live alone!
The guy in the mirror asks for blood, but he never says that it should be the blood of a female, yet Warner kills only women. Violence against women in films - how original (rolls eyes). I hate that bullshit.
@rem2267 Well, it's kinda simple. When you think about the time this was made, women suffering was sort of second nature in these sorts of things. Also, look at it from a story point of view: back then how many male prostitutes were around? Also, how much easier is it for a strong male to overpower a (assuming they were) weaker female? While I'm with you on the prevalence of violence against women being something played out far too much (The Women in Fridge Syndrome of DC comics comes to mind),
@rem2267 (continued) at the time this was made, it wasn't as 'common' as you might think. Also the stereotypical view was women were the 'fairer' sex and easily overcome by a male.
@rem2267 Personally, I rather liked The Door (the last segment) simply because they guy and woman got away and destroyed the evil because he actually paid the shopkeep in full for the agreed price :P...made me chuckle a little. Then I would say the first segment (I'm a rather big David Warner fan) then the 2nd with Donald P. The 3rd segment seemed out of place, honestly and more comical than horrific. While the horror stories these are based on were like that, for a movie it felt out of place.
@Sketchpcis - (continued) Thank God for the last segment w/Michael Redgrave (really handsome here), and that good wrap around story (although that last twist there was silly and unecessary as well). The rest were pretty good, too, esp. the children's party.
@Sketchpcis Ugh, that 'comedy' 3rd story was so terrible, I had to fast-forward until the final minute -- the only good part. I rarely like the more comedic stories in anthologies, and this one took the 2nd place prize for it awfulness.
Worst ever was from the much older (the first?) anthology film, from 1945, "Dead of Night." That golfing fool with the hand-movements to break a spell or something was embarrassing + laughable (like Ms. Leighton's character here), and went on interminably.
@rem2267 I agree I think the 2nd story was the only good one on here, vault of horror, and tales from the crypt were better, haven't seen "the house that dripped blood" yet though..

He did go on to play Jack The Ripper in Time After Time, that is correct. His character's name is John Leslie Stevenson.
