  • What an absolute beautiful work of art Hubert Sumlin is.

  • all signs say that hes the one playing best.

  • Please, does anyone know what guitar Hubert is playing? Thanks

  • a cool one, duh

  • A Harmony Stratotone - made from 1953-63.

Old Harmonies are great for blues & rock n roll. (Keith Richard of the Stones used a Harmony Meteor). They were eclipsed by Fenders and Gibsons in the late 60's. Try one to get away from the cliche Hendrix/SRV/Paul sounds that prevail today.

Many old non-Fender single-coil pickup guitars from 52-65 sound great and are cheap. Run 'em into a tube amp with a 20% boost.

  • Check out Google-Image for pics and articles.

Besides great pickups, old pre-1969 Harmonies have big, chunky necks. If you like a Gibson neck compared to a Fender's or have large hands, you may find old Harmony necks specially satisfying.

Try the old Rockets, old Meteors (UK equiv), Stratotones, and Silhoutettes.

Harmonies were made by 'Chicago Musical Instrument Corp.' The old Chicago blues bands used just go over to the factory and get outfitted - esp. Willie Dixon's bands.

  • Hubert's da man
