AUTO is so awesome. Yes, he's programmed to follow A113 above all else, and can't deviate from it in any way...but he really does it to the best of his ability, and there's just something admirable about that--just as admirable as WALL-E and EVE's efforts to do what /they/ think is right. I'm sure trying to shake a 400-some pound man off of you while you're desperate to close the holodetector can't be much of a picnic, and certainly wasn't in AUTO's job description! XD

Its strange how some people dont think Auto is evil.

This is how it all works: some people think that he is just following his directive, and isn't evil, but the truth is, he had two directives he could choose from, following the captain's orders no matter what, or following A113. After 700 years of taking orders from a fat guy, he is sick of it, and finally decides to take over the Axiom, by using A113. So hes not innocent, people. HE'S STONE COLD! But that only makes him so much cooler! XD

I'm not so sure Auto is a sociopath since he believes that what he's doing is right. A sociopath (human or machine) would have killed WallE AND the captain (and anyone else) without provocation. Auto believes that he's keeping humanity alive. BnL, rather than being portrayed as sinister, is simply misguided. This movie isn't about dystopian visions of the future like THX-1138 or Blade Runner. If anything, it shows the negative results of a technological utopia.

Auto IS actually evil, it just started with the video he recieved from the president; it's what gave him the idea to take over the axiom. on a pixar website, it said that the real reason he's doing that isn't ONLY because of his programming, but because he knows that if people go back to Earth, he'll be shut down and not needed anymore, and he wont have contol over everything anymore. (the captain's too blind to see that auto's been running the ship the whole time LOL) so that's pretty much why.

To a certain extent, yes. The power that he held probably paid a minor part, but only when it came to the point where people started to push back. He got scared, frankly, because he was trying to do his directive, but everybody else refused to comply, and for the first time in his life there was no order. How terrifying it must feel to always be in power, and then suddenly stripped of it, and being completely unable to do what you were made to do? He felt helpless, and confused, like a child.

even though I see what you're trying to say, I don't agree. For example, Eve was dead set on her directive (plant > base > captain) until she had an interference (wall-e yay!). And Auto's directive was to keep everyone on the ship and not return home, he didn't want anything to interfere with those orders so he pretty much did what he thought was "right". If anyone is to blame, that president guy deserves it for not having faith that Earth could become a life sustaining planet again.
