hey erabbit didnt you have the srt ? and the engine from this mazda is a ford engine if im not mistaken because i worked on alot of mazda 3 and well they say fomoco which means ford motor company
@mikhailSRT4 ford and mazda are partners. theyre like best friends. ford is partners with volvo, mazda, so they come out with very advanced engines. volvo helped them do there variable valve timing.
@mikhailSRT4 You can't compare a regular 3 to this car or even the speed3, the engines are different... this is a DISI MZR, I have been up and down my Mazdaspeed6.... the only thing that said "FoMoCo" on it was the spark plugs, lol....
@ ERABBIT, Mazda 6 MPS is the Mazdaspeed6 of Europe... Mazdaspeed Atenza is the name in Japan.
@mikhailSRT4 speed 6 engines are made in japan not by the ford motor compnay... the mazda 6/mazda 3 are fords 2.3L motors the speed 6 setup is completely different but it is commonly thought to be fords motor.... a mazda 6 front end would need to have 5k to 6k in uppgrades and parts to hold the motor alone (being a 6 owner i looked)
@mikhailSRT4 The 2.3L is a Mazda designed engine, MZR. They have been doing a LOT of parts sharing for years. The 3.0L found in the 2003-2008 Mazda 6s is a Ford engine. Speed 6 was made in Honshu, Japan.
@Johandyman - Yes this is the MPS, only in North America it's called the Mazdaspeed6. There is no "MPS" designation here -- I think that's a European thing only.
yes 3 inch test pipe was $50 and the catback is 2.5inch and was a $400 Magnaflow. I didnt want to spend alot of money. Lemme know what ur guys times are with these mods so I can see if I am close next week when I go to the track.
Nice ride. You know running a 3" tp actually hurts performance without a 3" dp. All about airflow, resistance. Look it up on the forums. Dyno proven. Just a fyi buddy!
I didnt feel any power loss when I added just the test pipe first. I doubt a 3 inch test pipe would hurt the performance of a stock 2.25 inch catted pipe. This car is just a fun car not all worried about performance thats why I got my other car!
the larger test pipe in the middle of the exhaust in comparrison with the smaller dp and cat back creates a bubble in the middle of the pipe in which air can flow up down and back instead of straight out. a dp will solve this. you may be mistaking cool exhaust noises for loss of hp.
im not trying to be rude...at all. but the fact that you are using "i doubt" to explain your feelings on the situation doesn't fix the problem that i was stating a fact. its certainly not removing from the stock horsepower, but you will not receive the HP gains that a 2.5 test pipe would give. i bet SU tricked you into taking the 3 because they were out of the 2.5. you really should get a catted dp now, then you're talking serious gains and intense sound.
downpipes are to much for these cars and like I said its my girls car so we wherent going all crazy. And I got the 3" Test pipe for $50 shipped so I wanted to get it to delete the cat. Also its Protege Garages old 3 inch they use to sell and dont anymore.
my buddy has a speed 6 its nice but the gear ratio combined with the small turbo (boost doesnt build until ~5k) makes it drive really weird

ERABBIT23 1 year ago
@ERABBIT23 mazda MPS is short for Mazda Performance System
so it is the same thing MPS is re-named in the US to mazdaspeed
Johandyman 1 year ago
@ERABBIT23 MPS comes from Mazda Power Series, and it's sold with that name in europe

wait... your running a 3" test pipe straight into a 2.5 inch catback? that seems pretty counterintuitive
