anyone else think this is a hugo strange reference or not? if the joker's anything it's either insane or evil. you can't be both because insane people cannot distinguish between right and wrong because if they do they're not legally insane; they might be mentally ill but not insane. if the joker can test other people's morality in this film that means he knows the difference, e.g. he's not insane in the dark Knight and would be sent to prison, not Arkham Asylum unless the judges are incompetent.

@shawbros Actually, no. The original quote if from Niche, "That which does not kill us makes us stronger." The twisting of "stronger" to "stranger" has been use as a twist to the original quote since the Joker's use of it in a comic from the late 1970's.
