Once again a beautiful, creative, skilful cover of a Kraftwerk-song. A song-cover should add something ,or offer a different perspective to the original, and in my opinion you succeeded 100 %.
@trckfl1f2lds3 Initially, I thought about this one for the longest time: I really thought that I just couldn't couldn't cover it--there was some cause for concern...but then...I just simply tried. Well, it just goes to show don't let anyone ever tell you don't even bother trying because nobody but the performer can honestly answer that question. Thanks for commenting! :)
@psbmastering Initially, everything was recorded into Pro Tools. The first parts I recorded were the percussion and bass parts and then the leads; afterwards, I sent everything over to my Boss BR 1200 studio, and dropped on the vocals...sent it back to PT. Lastly, I put down the glass breaking track : ) Thank you very much for that nice compliment! : )
@busywave Hi Mark, it was very interesting in many ways...no machine beats on this--everything was played by hand (minus arpeggiator on the bass bits and my Martin acoustic!) For the vocal part, I used the BR-1200 with a preset vocal effect...Shure SM-57 I think it was. You really can't beat that studio for the money.
You nailed it Walt.Great cover, your vocals fit nicely and the beat is perfect. The way you changed the choir part is a breath of fresh air too.A top notch cover.
@Synthsound1 Thanks Dave, yeah I really didn't go into thinking of changing things around...it just happened. You know: sure I listened to the original choir, found the choir part then mucked with the ADSR a bit. Listened...then settled with those settings. It seemed like a good idea.
Nice cover Walt. I know what you mean about Youtube compression. You spend time getting your mix just so....upload it...and it's all wrong on playback on Youtube.Very frustrating. I've deleted a few uploads, re-mixed them, uploaded again only for them to sound worse as I've "over compensated". Still a great job Walt.
@STEVEL361 I agree we spend time getting things the way we like them then youtube mucks the mix up.Come on youtube lets get something done about the sound quality, other video upload sites are far better, yet not so much used.
@Synthsound1 ...and besides that Dave, they just put up the 'ole 3rd party content thing. I hope that they don't swap my cover for the Kraftwerk original..then I will be violation of content. XD
@STEVEL361 Hi Steve, it is true their compression is always squirly...it can't be figured out! If it's a lower quality video greater than average length, the audio can get squashed sometimes yes sometimes no. If it's a higher quality video of a shorter length it can still get squashed sometimes yes and sometimes no. Usually, the sound just gets totaled. I'd love to invest in a nice Soundcraft mixer, but with this problem..HA...I could end up making things worse! Thanks Steve
@buniluvr Thank you Julie : ) Yes! I know! I thought about that, too...with Ann Francis. I remember that show back then..it scared the heck out of me...for a long time! : ) Then there was Chuck Connors in the 1979 horror movie Tourist Trap who took it to the extreme...which I thought was pretty good, but it was a ripoff of the old Twi Zone "After Hours".
Well, much to my shame I don't know the original song so I'm not making comparison. I like this one and that's all. Is the acoustic guitar the two notes pounding in the bass line?
@Deisinoful Thank you for such a nice compliment. : ) The pounding bass here is, in fact, the blofeld synth. I'm just basically strumming chords here. The recording of the acoustic is pretty washed in the mix..which is essentially what I wanted because the original had no such acoustic.Though, I found out that there is a sublime texture here which surprised me with this unusual experiment.
The Kraftwerk original takes were both done in German and English. Links can be found on the on this page.
@NickDrake101 mmh sorry, I had another try but just can't spot the guitar. Probably it takes a bit of emphasys by equalizer on the middle frequencies. The "sublime texture" thing is intriguing to me, maybe I'll have a chance to have a taste by listening to it on the media player

Wow, that was a very good redo of Showroom Dummies but the guy in the vid was a bit creepy, playing with his mannequins.

@NickDrake101 I forgot...the first part was actually my acoustic..it's so washed out, but that was ok!

Much respect from me. That was a beautiful interpretation, and the video is reminiscent of 1970's Kraftwerk.

@herrrob14 Honestly, I never thought I could cover this until one day I just thought to give it a try. Thank you.
