I should probably leave my "evaluating, judging" mind at home for a good long time, until I know what I'm hearing, and whom I'm hearing, and understand qin terrain and territory. I have no map.
So far, in my short short short history of listening to guqin, he seems like the most virtuosic of all. Still, I have to take this impression (opinion) of mine with a burlap sack of salt; it seems that every video featuring a "stellar" qin player is quickly followed by another video featuring an even brighter star!
Who IS this performer? He looks like a young Wang Duo. Or moves like him, anyway. Well, whoever he is, I like his hands; they're not at all tentative. They have a graceful, assured dance on the strings, and communicate clarity of thought, integrity, and confidence.
Outstanding performance. I say this as if I have any objective criteria for judging. Not knowing the aesthetics and techniques of qin, I shouldn't be using such unequivocal praise words. But all the "music receptors" in my mind, body, and spirit are telling me that this is outstanding music. It fits my receptors very well, thank you!
this was the same instrument as in that Hero scene, and what an awesome piece of music was played in that scene. there is that part of the movie on youtube, one of my favorite qin pieces.
His left hand technique is quite impecccable! After attending to some of his concerts, I found out that he really emphasised on the beat of every songs. Every beat is counted as perfect 2/4, 3/4 or 4/4. Guqin muisc emphasis more on articulating feelings & emotionls thru the strings. By having a perfect beat count may sometimes ignore & omit the importance of expressing feelings in the piece of music.
sweet i love this sound...

Wasn't this instrument featured in the movie "Hero"? The old man in the chess hall, in the rain scene? Or was that a different instrument?
That was a great scene =)

For guqin and other Chinese musical instruments, try Clarion Music Center in San Francisco's Chinatown. Telephone: 415-391-1317.

if the 'answer' is played the same, then you wouldn't have contrast in texture, or what are you trying to say. What does organized mean?
