  • Did u know that the dragon never hits u, if u are far away and jump whole time and use charged gaia sword. So u cant loose the fight, but it takes ages. :D

  • I was about 8 when I had this. I played it all the way through, persevered with the frustrating jumping parts and finally ended up facing the duke. It took me so many attempts but I finally beat him, with my folks watching. I was so happy... up until the point where the dragon appeared and I had to fight that too.

I started crying haha and gave up :-P Awesome game.

  • Hey mates i've finished the game too and it reminds me another perfect sega game : Light Crusader, so long too but so powerful ! same nostalgy playing this

  • yeah cause, i prefer the japanese version, it teach us money is nothing, it can't buy true feelings, power of adventure, and the... love, Friday is a way fallen in love of Nigel but he's blind, she wants to live with him i think, yeah bit weird but it's not very clear no ? I think she loves him, but maybe it's another lession of the true ending, sometimes love should surpass differences, so thats the reason for me the end is really sad, a kind of a joyful sadness...

  • I'm 19 but i've spent many hours with this game ! I'm so nostalgic, when i finished the game, how to say... i felt so melancolic, i love to play with modern RPG but with Sega games... it's so different, a taste i dont find nowadays =), epic and a bit sad music, geat graphic designs, aahh^^ nostalgy...

I remember i was often kind of zombie playing Landstalker, i was so in love, a whole summer^^

Best RPG in my heart, and hum i feel always sad with end...

  • me lo hice de chico y me compre una traductora de ingles por los reyes solo para entender el juego .....merecio la pena un 10 para mi primer gran juego de rol

  • I used to play this game all the time back in the day. I progressed very slowly. Eventually the cartridge battery went dead and I lost all my saved games. Then the Megadrive got so old that it got pushed aside by newer consoles and pc.

A few weeks ago I opened up the cartridge and I installed a brand new battery onto the circuit board and I started playing it from the beginning. Today, after about 15 years since first laying hands on it, I have finally beat it. This game is my life.

  • Duke had what was coming to him

  • is this game good?

  • @ 8:24 : Rest in peace, creator of Blue Stinger & Illbleed.

  • and this is one of those "this is why sega didnt give in back in the day" moments :')

god this game completely wiped the floor over zeldas ass.

  • 1:24 I love very much this theme before the final boss <3333

  • @Darknanard Me too! It just lent the scene's mood that little touch of sadness, like something that's been waiting around for a gazillion years for you to find it. It's really a charming theme. :)

  • Was it the first temple? Because I seriously got stuck there for a year, because I used to play on a black and white TV at my grandmother's house and you had to find a switch to move the different colored golom.. lol

  • this game was very difficult. Like 3D picture by 2D painted.

  • YO THIS GAME IS THE SHIT,CLASSIC, AND I DONT CARE WHAT GAME IS MORE POPULAR, NIGEL WOOD FUCK LINK UP IN A ONE ON ONE FITE LOL

  • omg memory lane

  • Sega's answer to Legend of Zelda.

  • I also got stuck on this game for a year. In the capital, when you are down in the dungeon section and have to solve 10 puzzles or whatever, I couldn't work out the one where you stand still for 30 secs. Took me a year to work it out!

I cried when I completed this. I actually cried.

  • My GOD half of my childhood remained stuck to this game! I love this so much. It brings back so many wonderful memories... They don't do games like they used to... :(

  • Aseph I subscribed to you for other games but my brother was over here and we were watching rpgs we use to play when we were kids and I ran across your vid of Landstalker and it was awesome! This is the game that got me into RPGs so I have a love for this game that may be more then others. Thank you!

  • why using fail sword? ;(

  • GZ ^^

  • The hero looks like a hero in game Alundra on PSX :/

  • @dex666cro I thought the same thing. It's perhaps why it's said on Wiki that Alundra is a "spiritual successor" to this game.

  • @bub777 Yeah, it's pretty fun, though it's age does show a bit, being one of the earlier games with an isometric view.

  • what is this game? it looks like Zelda with platforming with sound effects from Shining Force and Sonic.

  • Amazing game! Brings back memories when I was younger. Such a great game for Sega!

  • I'd like to go on record by saying the way Landstalker ended, a sequel felt really REALLY desired in my opinion ... just stating that.

  • I think this might've been one of the top five hardest games I've ever played. So awesome though.

  • hmm it reminds me of alundra

  • My (American) Genesis cartridge had the "German" ending people are talking about - they didn't get the treasure. But this and the ROM that's kicking around the web have them getting it - I guess there were 2 versions?

  • Remember this game when I was 7m my cousin used to play this with beyond Oasis. ^^

  • is this the same as alundra?

  • haha he said "MY PRECIOUSSSSssss..."

  • lol nigel he appeared at a dreamcast rpg I dont remember the name climax something

  • @alanvamp timestalkers

  • ...after a few seconds calms down and accepted a bit embarrassed.

So at least the game finished, in the german version, with the same philosophy of losing a treasure and gaining a bigger one (friendship)^^

PS: The german version is censored, too.

  • Very funny: In the german version of the game they do not obtain the treasure but they will lose it, because it will fall down the bottomless pit together with gola.

While Friday (in german: Flora) will be very upset for losing the treasure after the long task, Nigel (in german: Niels) only tells her in a cool way, that endings like this are quite normal for treasure hunters. He claims to find yet another treasure making her even more upset. But he asked her to follow him, and she ....

  • oh my :) heh thanks for the info I am glad to hear of a different ending!

  • @ASephiroth In fact, that is the original Japanese ending. The English translators just changed the dialogue at the end.

  • I remember renting this game.

It was so good I had to rent it an extra day!

When it was on sale for 14$ back in 1993, I instantly bought it, no hesitation!

One of the FINEST Genesis games.

I had the chance ten years later to play for FREE using the magic of emulators and the game is still VERY fun.

Thanks to kwik save/kwik load, I had the chance to beat Master Fahl and Greenpeas, he he!

  • does the creators of landstalker are the same of alundra? lol it looks so the same, both awesome games

  • Loved this game on my old sega mega drive. However I could never figure out what that damn bell quest was??

  • man, this was one of my favorite games of my childhood. I Will never forge itt, especially since it still sits safely in my game collection. :)

  • The last dungeon took me sooooo long. :L so much awkward jumping, and then having to do it all again! But it was worth it in the end.

Also, the music is magnificent haha.

  • In the german version Nigel didn't get anything because the whole treasure fell down (where?? - this doesn't make any sense) with the beaten dragon. But concerning the pure 'video sequence' during the game's ending, they are all the same.

I was around ten years old when I played this game and I was really enjoying it. It's definitely one of the greatest RPGs ever and I wonder why the hell there wasn't a continuation for this amazing game!

  • dark savior (saturn)

    time stalkers (dreamcast)

    lady stalker (snes japan only...)

    ^_^

  • There was Lady Stalker on SNES (so yes a continuation in a way) but I didn't play it.

  • 3:45 FAIL!

  • I loved this game. I never liked the sound thats made when he jumps. It is annoying.

  • I love this game so much

  • Ahh i remember i tried dont to use Treasure hearts to buy them all on the last shop for 1200G and when reached 99lifepoints to collect all Treasure hearts to get near ~160lifepoints (but which was not shown) and with 160 lifepoits you just needed to to hit the last boss bosses each 4 or 5 times ... but the to get there was really hard .. with a minimum of life every boss was very hard to kill.. cause your strengh was connectet to your max life points

  • did u not know how to open the swamp temple with the idol stone? like me?

  • omg! Yes I had that stop me for a logn time! Another hting that stopped me for liek a year.... was that damn part where you had to do an earthquake to open that temple up where the duke went, what a pain!

  • Lmao I was stuck for so long because of that idol stone, but by the time i was old enough to figure that out i never ACTUALLY got stuck again, but yea awesome game, i just beat it last night, now i am playing Alundra, which some of the people from Landstalker worked on

  • @ASephiroth "If you're a mover and a shaker, find the Goddess and awake her" ;)

  • try alundra on ps1 if you liked this game.

  • I loved this game when I was a kid, I played it day in and day out, I come from none English speaking country, and me and my mom would sit and play this game and she would translate the conversations for me, and I finally beat the game one day, my version of the game had a different ending tho, But this game brought me such emotions ive yet to find a game that means as much to me as Landstalker.

    Fantastic game,

  • @Walnut500 Try Alundra, dude.

  • in the german version there's another end :( in the german version Nigel don't get the money und jewel's. It falls down together with the death dragon. The english one is more positive.

Moreover in the german version friday and Nigel aren''t lovers :)

    Landstalker - best game i ever played. I want Landstalker 2 !!

  • dark saviour for the saturn is a spiritual successor to landstalker and plays very similar. happens to also be a great game especially with the compelling parallels system. they have to played in the right order to make sense though :p

  • i agree, the best game which I never have play, no other games gave me such emotions !! good memories !!!!

  • Thanks for posting this vid! I Really best Game ever!! Good memories!

  • Comment removed

  • So the moral of the story is, if you want love, just go treasure hunting for zillions of gold and kill lots of terrifying creatures

  • Yeah I spent an entire summer cooped in my room playing this day in and day out when I was 16. When I finally beat it, it was one of the greatest moments of my life.

  • im still stuck on that part too bad i dont have a genesis this game and sonic 2 was one of the game's that made me want to smash my genesis

  • i could never do the last boss.

  • GOOD MEMORIES!!!!

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting. Brought back good memories.

  • bad enging?

  • great game but the ending is soo darn boring . the game it self is soo big but the ending.... makes you wonder have i done all this for this sh*t

  • I loved this game when I was a kid...I almost forgot about it! tnx for posting this video:)

  • It kind of seems like it is a premature Alundra.

  • Comment removed

  • Coincidence? Climax Entertainment was the development team behind Landstalker. Back in '94 some of their team members left to form Matrix Software which is the team behind Alundra.

  • yeah lol very similar

  • I had so much fun playing this game back in 1993...

With the Genesis emulator, it was really great to replay it just a few years ago.

With the kwik save/reload feature, I managed to beat the shape-shifting old man! Ha ha!

Also maximize my earnings at Green Pea!

  • Motoaki Takenouchi is the great composer, I love his music from Landstalker and Shining Force II.Its amasing!

  • hmmm i wonder what happens in the end

  • this game was so hard..

  • love this game. so many weeks were wasted for playin it...

u guys remember those prostitutes in Mercator? LOL

  • I loved this game. i think it was unique because of how you had to move around,i don't think many other games do that,if any at all,i still play this :D

  • I like this game, the only thing i didnt like were the controls but once you get use to it it wont be a problem.

  • Finally a Landstalker video without the most annoying weapon ever introduced to a video game (gaia sword w/ the freezescreen effect).

  • Still that sword made the game MUCH easier...

but this video to beat the boss without it is something.

  • yeah landstalker. very cool game, but also verrrry annoying some parts :D

  • You can purchase this game with wii points onto your wii!!! Its awesome

  • i remember this game. but that was such an anti-climactic ending

  • exactly what I was thinking

  • i was expecting him and navi (or whatever her name was) to settle down and have some half fairy/half elf kids running around!

  • I notice you don't have the Sword of Gaia. Any reason for that?

  • I dont remember , i do normally get it, but yeah i cant remember :p

  • I first played this game in elementary and I got stuck at the riddles chambers. I gave up playing it, lost it, then found where I put the game in tenth grade. Then, I got stuck somewhere else. I couldnt find out where to go next so I saved and quit. That was in 2000. I picked the game up again the end of 2006 and I couldnt remember where I was suppose to pick up, but watching the video I remember I couldnt beat that red thingy so I went to the village stocked and saved. Now, where is that place?

  • The red thingy? I forgot lol This is after the dungeon near kazalt, which is in the dungeon near uhm cant remember its been a while... sorry

  • single tear :'(

I have been looking for the name of this game for over 6 years. This was one of the greatest games ever. Along with Shining Force, and Beyond Oasis.

  • this game was my shit i had this game in 1st grade , this and beyond oasis was the only games my poor ass had back then i beat them like 10 times a piece

  • Wii Virtual Console. It's there.

  • Well Nigel have 91 years old i don´t think he is interested in doing that kind of things with a fairy

  • Friday is so in love with him. I mena how are they gonna....you know? Love is confusing maybe in games.

  • DUDE i played this back in the sega channel days. And i beat it once. Now i can't remembet a thing how i beat it. Since this is an isometric zelda's/shining force esque music/sound.

  • In the end Nigel gain a treasure of more value than gold, the heart of an adventurer , that is why in the game time stalkers he says he isn´t interested in treasures just on adventures...he is my favorite character

  • And he gained the heart of Friday, don't forget that. Also, this was a great game, but it pissed me off that Nigel wasn't the one that killed the Duke. I really wanted to smash his face after everything he put Nigel and Friday through.

  • what do you need to do to get into the creepy basement in mercator

  • try and get into mirs tower I think, or its am atter of talkign to people in mercator

  • better than legend of zelda, longer too!

  • no way better than zelda its not even better than soleil or story of thor and those 2 are not even better than zelda!

  • I beat this one way back when there was a Sega Channel. I'm trying to play an emulated version now, but there's a bug! Anyone else know about this, and if so, about how to fix it?

  • hey, isnt this music played in secret of mana or evermore?

  • Duke: How about 20 golds?

Nigel: No... make it 21 please?

  • I don't know a lot about the remake but the only thing I conplain about is that Nigel's(main character) dessign in the PSP is looks like Link from Wind Waker and I wish it wuld rensamble the Nigel from Time Stalkers. And I hope the indoors dungeon looks like the ones in Dark Saveieur. That wuld end up in one of the coollest games ever made. :)

  • I guess people feel the same way. 1st thing that came to mind when i saw this was Alundra.

  • Alundra was created by most of the team who did this game;though LandStalker/S.Genesis is much more of a challenge. The atractiveness of the game lays at the fact that these people gave u everythig laid on a table and u had to crack up your maind everey framestage 'n choose correclly each path so you wuldn't come on a dead end, u could even be at the entrace of the Dungeon u needed and not realizing it.This if you askme is the coolest thing about it, aslo is is much more collorfull than Alundra.

  • Brilliant game - probably in my top ten of all time - but the ending was a bit disappointing.

  • Awesome looking game with a nice soundtrack.

  • caraca joguei esse jogo tem um tempao custei zerar depoi fui ver q tinha q colocar um olho na estatua foda d+ jogasso!!!!

  • I still love this game... for me it still is the best game ever! And it took me more than 10 years to get to the end... perhaps because I began at the age of 6...

  • i love that people keep saying he looks like alundra :D and i got stuck on the statue in the temple too (i assume you mean the the one you push back? )... i wish they had relesed Dark Savior for PS1, alundra 2 was so dissapointing.

  • Why do you have the sword of ice and not the sword of gaia?

  • I just couldnt stand the earthquakes happenign all the time

  • Yeah, those earthquakes do take up a lot of time

  • i loved the game but the diagonal walink scheme sucks tbh

  • hey he kind of looks like alundra.

  • goodle landstalker 2 psp is suspposed to be getting one

  • this game looks so similar to Alundra for the ps1

  • my first rpg too! lol sorry you got stuck, since gamefaqs wasn't available back then. i frigin love this game. i hear they're remaking it for psp. fuck duke.

  • you had alot more HP than i did when i beat it. i didnt even have 60HP max.

  • This game was amazing rofl, I've still got it. Although I remember there being a game that was uber similar to it that had like slightly better graphics that was hecka fun, and I can't remember what the name of it was.

  • There actually was a sequel in japan, called Ladystalker, which if you've played Timestalkers is a combination of the characters in that and the characters (and game style) of Climax's other main series, the Shining series, using the main characters from Shining in the Darkness.

  • There was also a game on the SEGA Saturn (I don't remember the title of the game) that made it to the U.S that was more of a spiritual sequal, same creators same gameplay, new story and characters. then the creators left Climax and with Psygnosis they made The Adventures of Alundra for the Playstation which resembles Landstalker in more ways then I can count... and ofcourse Nigel did a cameo in Time Stalker on the DreamCast

  • sorry, Climax and Psygnosis made Alundra together and it was translated by GameArts... =) my misstake

  • I keep on making misstakes... I meant Working Design, not GameArts... I'm really sorry...

  • I think you're referring to "Dark Savior"....And there was a semi connected game called "Timestalkers" on dreamcast, although it isn't as well known as this awesome game.

  • yeah, Dark Savior^_^

and Time Stalkers is sort of an anniversary game... it stars some of the creators most famous characters from games like Landstalker, Shining in the Darkness and so forth...

  • For me with Phantasy star 4, Landstalker has been the best game released on genesis.

    Great vid by the way!

  • The ending i had, they just left the treasure to search for more treasure. I was really sad they never released a squeal. I thhough TimeStalkers would be but that game wasn't anything special. can someone tell me what all the different endings are?

  • Well a Japanese Only "Sequel", I guess you can put it, was made. It was called LadyStalker. Unfortunately to my knowledge an English Translation hasn't been made (it is a Project people are working on but very slowly).

The main character of that game, Lady, who also appears in TimeStalkers...if you can be bothered to try and get far enough in the game to meet her. I have TS, thinking it'd be much like this, but what a let down...=\

  • if only :'(

  • Hey, do you have this videgame cartidge?, i loosed this cartridge...

Please, sende me this cartridge please....

  • i have it, but when i send it to you, my father kills me. and over that, it´s the german version (yes, there was a german version).

  • I remember this fight vividly, so glad that duke got owned in the end. He's a pain in the ass throughout the game.

  • Don't ruin the game for everybody!!

  • My Best game:D Can tell me anyone what i must to do after fight with Zak (this flying creature)

  • I remember killing the last boss using a different type of sword attack one that does an attack that hits all on screen, something like earthquake.

  • It was the Gaia Sword. You get it in King Nole's Labyrinth.

  • omg... they edited the Ending...

in the original version Lyle and Friday lost everthing. Friday's asking Lyle if he's sad about the treasure and he tell her that he isn't and she's doing the dance for him (...and in the US-Version she's "searching a special weapon"). Together, they're traveling back to Lyle's country.

Really, the US-Version sounds like a bad 4kids Anime. And the Death-Szene of the Duke is a little bit more dramatic in the european version.

  • Wow I didnt know that, pretty interesting, I only played this version, too bad!

  • Sorry I'm a bit confused but interested about this. I have the Mega Drive (UK) Version of this game so will the ending be the same as this video or the one you described? (Not completed the game yet). This ending is pretty disappointing for such a challenging game, imo.

Also why do you call him Lyle, in the MD version I have he's called Nigel? Hmm...translations...what can you do eh?=)

  • No, you have the "original ending" because only the US-version is cut. Simply, there's no treasure left and both go on new adventures.

Lyle/Ryle and Friday are their Original Names in Japan, the french version uses the names as far as I know.

  • In the German version they´re called Niels and Flora.

  • I like the ending when you defeat satan and get the gold coins in abundance, it's like going to church.

  • Excellent game

  • The ending music on the steps before the fight sounds more epic in the PAL version because it is slower :D

  • THANKS FOR THE UL...LOVE THIS GAME ^_^
