    HyrfggddchGGDtdos

  • prefer the version with music by mogwai, this music is amazing but it doesnt harmonise well with sagan's voice

  • @nubl37 agreed.

  • Tear inducing.

  • It is a little paler without you, Carl.

  • See that dot? No? That's because we blew it up.

  • When he sais "suspended in a sunbeam" the first time it is STUPID to not cut to the picture of wich he speaks.

  • Most beautiful video on youtube. Love the ending! everytime i watch it im just in a daze.

  • Wow! What a great video! "Who says science can't be spiritual!"

  • Excellent job on this video. Hope Congress "gets" that their wasting time is only endangering our survival. You should send a dvd to every member and who knows, maybe they'll grow up and do some work.

  • This video is the dumbest thing alive.

A third of it is simply stating what is on Earth written in thesaurus barf. The also looks cheap and is somehow stating that space solves the evils of mankind.

Helllooo, without evil (how do you think American got rich enough to send a man into space), space travel would be impossible.

  • @darkmagicianawsome Your an idiot.

  • @jaeLAX23 No shit

  • @darkmagicianawsome Congratulations on being one of the biggest wastes of carbon the world has ever known :)

  • @FenrirKar You really are embarrassingly ignorant. So just because I don't agree with your opinion I'm one of the worst people alive? If you watched the video then you would hear the crap-large amount of blah blah blah about evil people who have kill millions.

Yes, I'm the biggest waste of carbon ever. Listen to the old guy, we need to be nicer to each other or other shizzzzz

  • @darkmagicianawsome : i dont know if i have to point this out to you but first of all how can a youtube video be " the dumbest thing alive"? and the point of this video is not to say that space solves the evils of mankind, its saying that no matter what we do to eachother, no matter how "evil" or "good" we are. in the grand scheme it means nothing. and the only way to get out of it alive is to work together and stop trying to be better than the next guy... we all live on the same speck.

  • Just... Just Amazing... Brings a tear to my eye.

  • "I had ambition not only to go farther than anyone had done before, but as far as it was possible for man to go."

    Oh, yeah. :)

  • do anyone know where i can find the picture that is at the end of this awesome tribute?

  • @Dinosaurmannen never mind everyone! i found it tough i cant post links here in the comments. I found it at this site

onlyhdwallpapers and the name of the picture is "sun earth moon general desktop 1600x1200 wallpaper"

  • We need to go beyond the petty limitations of race, nationality, political persuasion, religion, sexual orientation / preference before we think about seriously exploring or colonizing the planets of our solar system. & we need to gain a new level of respect for the environment of our own world, as well. Otherwise we'll return to the Moon, travel to Mars, the asteroid belt & further out, & just repeat the same stupid mistakes that we made & are making here on Earth.

  • Why do I shed a tear every time I watch this...? Because only Carl Sagan can remind me that I am but a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.

  • 0:16 Carl Sagan lives there!

  • Perfect choice of music, makes you want life to mean somethingg

  • He speaks truth...hmm

  • I love how you mixed the images with the tracks of my favorite anime series, I am 25 yrs old and I remember when I was a kid I watched series like Macross and other stuff, at the same time I dreamed of a promising future for mankind in space colonies while watching the series "Cosmos", I was like 10 yrs old when Sagan died, I remember that day was like losing my father, I felt terrible, yet I never met him in person but he was one of the few humans who changed my life, I owe him a lot.

  • Sagan for president.

  • We are nothing more than a pimple on the a** of another society that exists in another world beyond our comprehension.

  • two persons are from another part of the cosmos!

  • This world needs more Carl Sagans. What an incredible thinker he was. Thank you, Carl, for all that you have brought to the betterment of humanity.

  • If we dont get along we will never get off this lonley Blue Dot. This is where we make our stand. Carl has been my inspiration and hero from the the first moment I saw him and heard him speak, he should be on all education programs world wide, Ha, like that will ever happen.

  • it is truly a privilege listening to this

  • It may at first seem that cynicism is a sign of sophistication. It is usually more an indication of self-absorbed immaturity.Any fool can criticize, find fault with life, for there is no sublime skill needed to tear things down.Negativity is always self-limiting,for it surely, eventually consumes itself. The loving, creative, positive side of life has no limitation, for the more it grows, the more possibilities it creates.

  • @DrComptonCompton Just because you're rich doesn't mean you're evil. Hitler was poor & homeless before WWI and look where he got. Also, my father owns a large nationwide business, but he is a supporter of peace in our species, and only supports war if it is necessary. Lesson: Do NOT assume things, Compton.

  • I love Carl Sagan...this is beautiful - thank you!

  • Totally opened up my eyes...

  • "..the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.'

  • One question..

Who in the F**K made this single dislike? More importantly, Why?

  • @darklaguna the only idiot passing by

  • Perspective.

  • Turned out good. I did a demo for you for this project through Voice123.com. Good job.

  • @MegaSage007 Sadly your use of Caps Lock can't make your false statement less false.

Maybe use some exclamation points next time. They really help the Jehovah's Witnesses literature to be more believable.

  • @MegaSage007 Where is your forum? Your website doesn't have one, wo where do I go to find it?

I only wish to give some constructive criticism and help you understand things you haven't been shown or told about yet.

I don't want to sound like I know it all but you seem like you are actually looking for what is true, so if I can help I will.

Not everyone who looks for truth is interested in finding it. Many only believe what they WANT to be true, and the real truth be damned. Not me.

  • In our current day in age when negativity veils everything seen or heard, this speaks a message of hope and probable prosperity of the future. Maybe not seen by our generation, but with a stroke a luck, the next will see a future of cohesion and unity that brings about the best in our race. I hope, I dream, and I imagine this future, just as Carl Sagan did. I just hope I live long enough to see this future.

  • @TheMandymegan Anything that is not constantly challenged will grow weak. If any hazardous event(s) do happen on 2012, the effect will not be what the Mayans "foretold", as we have grown since then, changed. If it does happen, any tragic event(s) will only unify us, and lead us to overcoming that challenge, or die trying. If you truly believe that we will ALL die on that day, then you have already given up.

  • This should be a superbowl commercial

  • @Proph3tTroyer This should be shown to every person on earth

  • @ADHR26 And that'd be a good way to start.

  • @Proph3tTroyer I don't think showing this to people who are drunk/ drinking and wanting to watch more football would really take the time to understand it. But showing it at schools, public events such as lectures, and science channels would be much more effective. Place where theres not electricity pose a challenge as do countries spit by war.

  • where did you get just the audio track of Sagan reading from?

  • @kalahar007 I downloaded the audio book of Pale Blue Dot. This speech came from one of the first chapters, I believe.

  • 1 person lives on some other dot.

  • @Stevarious Looks like we have found another can-survive-planet 'cause there're 4 dumbs're living there.

  • 2012 is near u know people should go to some planet

  • one person accidentally clicked dislike.

  • 3.34 onwards... what music name is that?

  • @rhysinspire its called 'Voices' , instrumental version, from the anime Macross Plus, music by Yoko Kanno.

  • @rhysinspire its called 'Voices' , instrumental version, from the anime Macross Plus, music by Yoko Kanno.

  • :L 7:31 James May:) but truly amazing video

  • Time dilation is a law of nature.

  • Meant to say; "we would reach the center relatively fast".

  • @william526 No, if we were able to travel at the speed of light we would experience severe time dilation on the ship. We would reach the center of our galaxy (also there is no center to the universe). But of course those that stay home would experience it as 27,000 years due to time dilation. Read the special theory of relativity by Einstein.

  • @JackeShanTwo theory, nothing is definate. Probable, not definate.

  • @CannibalCatfish A scientific theory is not a guess like you think it is.

  • I am inspired, and in awe.

  • WHO IS THE DUMB FUCK THAT DISLIKED THIS?!?!?1

  • Comment removed

  • @DarkDramon extra terrestrials from other dot that don't like our dot???

  • @DarkDramon - Yes, hang them by their balls, all those who dislike what you like, how dare they are? What a bunch of morons you are, or they are, those morons. Dislikers of what we like...

  • This video describes my dreams exactly...

  • I cannot imagine a single person that would dislike this video.

One person of course, defies logic.

  • i feel so tiny, not small, but tiny...

  • the delusion that we have a privileged position in the universe

  • Perfect choice of music. Awesome.

  • tears and goosebumps. we need more sagans in this sad, lonely world =(

  • All the world is a stage, and we are but players.

  • @willmtemple William Shakespeare - 1564-1616, From: As you Like It, Act II, Scene VII.

  • I met Carl Sagan at a book signing in Atlanta in 1992 - I was installing a computer system and he came by for a book signing! We talked for about 2 minutes about time travel - I asked if a rocket were going 1 mph less than the speed of light - and I ran from the back of the rocket to the front - I would be going faster than the speed of light!! He disagreed saying from whose perspective. He also swiped my Sharpie as he came without something to sign with!!! I let him keep it!!

  • @Earthlinked As he died when I was 3, I'm very jealous of your encounter.

  • @Earthlinked LUCKY DOG!!!!!!!!!

  • @Earthlinked Little did he know, you had that Sharpie right up the pooper, barely 3 hours before that meeting.

  • @Earthlinked

Learn physics, you can't do this.

  • @Incroyable328 To bad - Sagan seemed to think you can do this!!!!!!!

  • I don't have words to describe all the feelings this video caused....

  • Thank you Carl Sagan. I wish I could have met you.

  • How could anyone dislike this? Blows my mind. Every human should listen to this at least once in their life.

  • this makes you wonder, after so long, DOES space end, what other life forms are out there, space just blows my god damn mind apart.....

steven hawking said we were 27,000 light years from the center of our galaxy or universe, or something.. and it just made me think.. how long, or will we ever be able to get thier..

  • Iam german but the part I understood was just MINDBLOWING -AWESOME .....and true.....

But first off all I need 1 bullet.

  • Maybe, when people realize, that it is far more rewarding to conquer new territories in space, instead of conquering them by war on earth, maybe, then, we will know peace on our pale blue dot!

  • One person is a contrarian. We need you too.

  • I dont care how pathetic this may make me sound. But I cried listening to this. I cried in joy. That there is still some hope on this small blue dot. That we as a species want to understand. Thank you Sagan. For restoring my hope in humanities want to achieve, to grasp the unknown.

    Thank you.

  • I hope the 'second ammendment remedies" nuts see this

  • I could listen to this for hours. This man is amazing, may he be remembered forever. :)

  • who is that one person? I really want to know!

    But damn, this is inspiring.

It makes me want to become an astronaut, and take those steps in space.

  • This is nothing special, if you go far enough in distance, heck, of course it will appear small. And you can barely see VY Canis Majoris from Earth and would you call it Pale Red Dot? Of course you would. And if you compare Earth to VY Canis Majoris, you'll see my point.

Don't hype it too much. You'll go nuts.

  • @candidfellow And how many humans live on VY Canis Majoris? Oh that's right, NONE, seeing as it's a STAR! Way to miss the point of the whole damn video.

  • Its ok, except the music is way too loud

  • I still think that we need the "Sagan" as the standard unit of humble awe.

  • @zer05ummedia

That suggestion deserves a Facebook group!

  • @zer05ummedia I'd agree, but I believe the Sagan unit would mean quite a lot to be a standard, useful unit. lol :)

  • Music could've been softer. But awesome nonetheless.

  • The one that dislike is an alien

  • i feel humbled. I shed a tear.

  • Dudes play Pink Floyd's dark side of the moon and smoke a fat joint and you can actually travel out there...

  • Wow, this is truly incredible. Carl Sagan really had a way with words. The footage is great by the way, keep up the good work!

  • Every time I look at the sky, I think about how insignificant all my problems are on a scheme of things. It puts me in my place, but I absolutely love it.

  • Great vid, but the music is just a little too loud to be enjoyable. Drowns out the words.

  • A LIFT FROM HERE TO THE MOON WOULD BE NICE,

  • Macross music, set to this! Love it!

  • When i am asked what i believe to be my religion, i will only show them this video.

  • CS once wrote that we must overcome our collective mistrust and waring nature, harrness our energy get off the planet and go into outer space. This planet has a limited use to us, it will run out of resources sometime, we must GO! But if we can not agree to this common goal, then we all must be happy with seeing out our lives/species on this Blue Dot...

  • THE GOVERNMENTS WILL NOT TAKE ALL OF US TO ANOTHER BEUTIFULL WORLD, ONLY A SELECT FEW WILL MAKE IT, THE REST OF US WILL BURN WHEN THE SUN GETS BIGGER. BUT THATS NOT FOR BILLIONS OF YEARS

  • @british123able True and we might not even be here as humans at that time anyway. We humans tend to think that we are so important to this world and reality is that we are not!!. We are such a conceited bunch...

  • The Pale Blue Dot should be read by all school children every day. It just might make us a better place and better people, it certainly cant hurt. And this video should be shown to children in schools at least twice a year, every year to make them think. What wonderful world it might be???

  • @DRpokeme

I agree, I wish everyone I know could see this

  • @DRpokeme Ah, the inspired and the enlightened people that it would bring... I completely agree.

  • we are so fragile....we and our small planet.

we must evolve...we must make peace.

can we learn this before its too late?

    one planet...earth

    one race...human

    all else is irrelevant

    (cry)

  • @zencat999 Peace is just around the corner. World Peace isn't here yet, but think about it; Europe has only had one war since WWII, and that was a civil war in Yugoslavia. But now those former Yugoslavian countries are allies, and it was ironically through war they became who they are. Lots of the corrupt leaders in the Middle East are now being challenged, and by aiding those civilians, the new leaders, if from the revolters, will not want to kill us, but to work with us.

  • We are, Star Stuff.

We are destine to move among the Stars, the Planets, and Procreate our DNA.

  • Wonderful

  • I got the greatest of chills when Sagan said "...save us, from oursleves." and the music just STOPS.

  • Human species needs to forget it's petty grudges and start thinking about human expansion to space. The whole galaxy is waiting for us and we can get there, if we only so wish.

First we need to send migrants to Mars, we already have technology needed for this task. Also we need to start developing more powerful spaceships and engines and start exploring Alpha Centauri in the next hundred years. It is the closest star after all.

  • @FutureHyperion Resources are limited lol, we are not in a movie.

  • Thank you so, so much for uploading this. The word "Awe" is so overused today but Carl Sagan's work and indeed his hopeful voice has always inspired that emotion within me.

  • OMG 6666 VIEWS!!!!!!

  • 6666?

  • Gives me chills.

  • fuck humans on earth, we ARE the problem in the universe! seeing all that is happening on earth just gives me little hope for the earth to be stable.

  • @ATSMaster"We are the problem" did not occur naturally. Were you ever concerned that there maybe someone or 'something' out there that want us to think we are? You say we are the disaster to the world and yet you keep cooperating with those above, who give you your rules, your knowledge, laws, believes. Ask yourself who is responsible for thought in your head. How do you think it's relevant we are the problem while we choose to give our power away that is being used for our own servitude?

  • You should have showed more pictures of where Earth is, to accent the dialogue.

  • Beautiful, just absolutely beautiful.

  • Carl Sagan: SMOKE WEED EVERYDAY.

  • @lordmagicpants Fuck bitches. Smoke trees. Wisdom.

  • Voyager 1 was launched on September 5, 1977. Sagan had pushed for Voyager to take a photo of the Earth when its vantage point reached the edge of the solar system.[3][4][5] [6] On February 14, 1990, having completed its primary mission, NASA commanded the spacecraft to turn around to photograph the planets of the Solar System.

Between February 14, 1990 and June 6, 1990, one image Voyager returned was of Earth, showing up as a "pale blue dot" in the grainy photo.

  • Distance of the Voyager 1 Spacecraft from Earth Unit of Measurement February 14, 1990 June 9, 1990

  • Happy Carl Sagan Day! And thank you for such an inspiring version of the Pale Blue Dot!

  • Awesome.

  • Good choice of music for the 2nd segment (from Macross Plus)

  • This is phenomenal. It's just about the most humbling 10 minutes of video I've ever seen.

  • Good version. Faved. The vision lives on

  • Nice to see a new, longer variant of the PBD.
