Forgot to mention. When routing the bearing edges i would attach a board/base spanning the whole shell so to stabilize the router, a lot safer and no chance of tipping the router.
I'm in the process of building a 19 inch taiko practice drum and am looking for supplies. I've only been able to find round shanked upholstery tacks. Where did you get the square shank tacks ?
