This looks hard, but is actually quite simple - just time consuming. First, model the lego bricks you will need. If you require more of one type, then just duplicate.
Next, turn to setting up your animation scene. Set all the blocks so that they are above the camera view, and then translate each block down, 1-by-1 into the correct position. Timing is the most essential skill in animation, so be patient and you'll get there.
if you are going into it just wanting a 3D package to be easy you probably arn't using it right. Every 3D package has a difficulty to it, and like Hashmeer put it, its what you do with it. Don't go making the same stuff everyone else does. Be creative.
Ahhhh I wanna go here for college so bad. I have a question, did you take CAD or anything in high school? Because I didn't but I still want to go there for graphic design/animation.
NEiA? I took a semester of CAD in HS, but I wouldn't say it gave me much "experience." I had been messing around with 3ds since I was about 14. The last few years of HS, I kinda just toyed around with it until I took two classes at NEiA.
The animation program requires a drawing portfolio if I'm not mistaken
I must say, the lighting and modelling was good, but the animations itself, was just some movement and camera rotation, so not any special animation effects, using only two animation features that acutally is the animation is a bit sad...
I mean, what more can you animate with LEGO pieces? Their plastic blocks with pegs, aren't they? There's a whopping one moveable part on this particular LEGO model, the cockpit that goes up and down. What more could you really do, honestly? I'm not saying this is Pixar quality here but, seriously, it's LEGOS.
I feel like i'm defending this too much or something...but again, it's a LEGO model being built. Not a real crossection of a photo-realistic A-Wing as if it were to really look. But just a straightforward build of a model.
I guess no one ever saw the old commercials of the kids hands moving fast to construct models or building blocks of any kids??
Did this over the course of a few weeks, but I wasn't working every day, or days that I did, as full length days. Wish I could give you a better idea of time.
This was done on 3ds8. First time I ever touched Max was 3ds 4, but like I said, that was the first time i TOUCHED it, not that I produced anything worthwhile haha.
3ds Max 8, it's production grade pro modeling and animation software. Software doesn't do it all, it takes work from the modeler/animator. There's no such thing as a "Make Nice" button ; )
It is rubish. :(

How long did this take? I went to The Vancouver Film School in Vancouver Canada in 1994, when 3D Studio was still DOS based.
My project took 6 weeks, and looked horrible. Like many students, I chose to go more complex. I wish I'd kept it simple, and enjoyable like yours.
Good show.
