  • WHAT A BASS!

  • Comment removed

  • @67ChevelleSSBlown460 He blew he's vocals recording the Sad But True single with the cover of "So What" in 1993 dumbfuck.

  • wow,3 people disposed these heroes.I was born for listening to this!

  • jasons bass sounds terrible, i wish he fingerpicked, sounds so much better with old school metallica

  • where is james voice ?

  • @HHHDX7 In somewhere between 1983 - 1992

  • they skipped Kirk's cool riff after the part when they say "hes your to take away"

  • During his carreer, James has always growled and shouted. It was really hard for him to perform that awsome voice. He said that he blowed his voice before the black album, because he tried so hard. After the black album they1ve toured for more than 3 years! Of course he has lost his voice!

  • james lost more than his voice! he lost his balls after the black album. james and lars are the reason metallica are a shit band these days!

  • @bakaneil hahaha fail xD

James and Lars are the reason Metallica is the greatest band today. And Cliff aswell.

But the 80s - Metallica pwns everything today.

  • the 1985 performance is alot better imo

  • Jason Newsted is awesome.

  • wtf happens with ur voice james ;_;

  • hahaha, Kirk still looks like a ratty ass little teenager (Not insulting his playing my fellow metal heads)

  • Jason looks like he wants his hair back. LOL!

  • this is in the Basel stadium

  • since jaso cut his hair, metallica started to go down down and down

they ended up from metal militia to the memory remains :''(

  • @aassyr1111 and from memory remains to "that was just your life", so it's going to way better direction

  • they are in Basel

  • his voice, gone

  • i'd rather have james sound like he does today than he does here, you can tell the strain on his vocal chords at this point. constant drinking and touring will do that to you though

  • what up wit the beard lars, lol

  • @brendonstar60

Don't you see? He is Jesus :D

  • @BandaDK xD

  • lol, Jason is always closing his right eye and looking off the the right

  • its nice to actually hear the bass in a live performance :)

  • jason has/had great backing vocals but e.g. i wanted to hear hetfield's vocals "alone" in the "finished here, greeting death ..." part. he screwed my expectations there. he could be timeless from time to time. but his backing was way better than rob's.

  • I'm not seeing enough effort on there part to even remotely capture the the songs affect in the studio version. James isn't growling. And kirk is skipping his guitar parts right before the chorus.

If anyone doesn't agree, watch the 1985 live concert version from the "Ride the Lightning" era. It's almost identical to the studio version.

James is being lazy here he was young enough to do the vocal accordingly.

  • Yo!!!!! To add to my last comment... I just finished watching the "2009 Mexico City Version" NOW THAT WAS GREAT !!! """

  • @nined5thclick stupid, listen to his voice its all worn down here. he probably already blew it out at this time. you can hear him struggling to even stay in pitch. fuck u man dont insult the great het.

  • @redgibson1 Hey, stop making excuses for them. He lost his voice some time towards the end of the justice tour. He had to build it back up for the black album. In monsters of rock 1991 he sounded great. And 2009 Mexico city sounds excellent also.(check it out) I'm just saying this isn't the best live version of this song. They've gone better before and after this.

  • @nined5thclick this song was made in 85, but it wasnt released until the beggining of 86, unless they were doing a demo live, but they had the lyrics, but they did that with fuel to, so yeah

  • @DowntownTB13 Very good. You seem to know your history very well. Here is a challenging one for you: What was the original "studio" line up of Metallica. List your answer by name and instruments played.

  • @nined5thclick yes, but Lars is owning.

  • @Ramtough93 Owe hell yeah!! Lars is doing it. His drums sound great here. You should check out 2009 live in mexico, James sound three time better in that version.

  • @nined5thclick Oh yeah, Mexico was kickass, ill admit though, Lars was more consistant with his fills on here though. But now that they have Rob, Lars doesnt have to step it up as much.

  • @Ramtough93 Wow?! What are you trying to say about Jason? Jason Newstend rocks. (check out the bass solo clip from the black album era) And Lars missed a fill right before James started singing. I ment Lar's drums sound great and his playing is solid. But he tends to do different rendisions of the songs when playing live. (not a terrible thing since the songs sound about the same in most cases)

  • @nined5thclick Nah, i just nag on Jason because because hes the first one to cut his hair, and he left Metallica for an alternative rock group, and he played bass for Load and ReLoad.

  • pretty sure he just called it disposable so it didnt get taken down for copyright

  • sickest riffs ever.

  • Poor james,he sounds terrible

  • @BigBozSicenunow terribly awesome!

  • This is in Basel I think it's in Switzerland

  • jason looks like he's having a hissy fit lol

  • lars kinda looks like paul mcartny and if u dont no hims hes 1 of the livin beatles him and ringo star

  • @XPxKX1stsasukeXPxKX Yes I think everyone knows who paul mccartney is......

  • James is having a bad voice day here :(

  • check out the bass roaring... from 0:50 on...

  • That was painful to watch. I can now confidently say that the mexico 2009 performance is better in every way compared to this.

  • @ThePistonHead23

    i totally agree

did u come here clicking on the link on the post

**Songs that 'current day' metallica does better than, 'old' metallica**

on the PPM ?? im just saying =p

  • Kirk's backing vocals make me laugh. No offense to him or anything, but Jason is like...99% of what you're hearing in the backing vocals. XD

  • his voice is almost the same when he "growls"

  • @gnrguitar13 Kirk is calmer than Jason on stage xD

  • nice beard lars weeeoo

  • @PatsUnbeaten it really is, i an actually hear it!!

  • lars with beard looks like jesus

  • jason was hetfield back bone in the vocals

  • yes they, do jason has the best backing vocals ever!!

  • see them playng this live is FUCKING AWESOME

obs james is givin his blood to sing this

  • Does anyone know if James has backproblems? l mean he always have to lean down to the mic and bend his back...

  • THAT is just METAL, my friend!!!!!!

  • @Zilgath

that's because he plays in power stance because he's the worlds most epic front man.

  • Jason Newsted its so fucking epic

  • What effect uses Jason on bass?

  • @rockstein a wah

  • This is probably my favorite song from master of Puppets. /,,/

  • you will do what i say when i say¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • @JIMELLINGTON BACK TO THE FRONT!

  • jesus in teh drums

  • 0:46

  • wow Jasons angry here

  • @krollaostmedburger If got hazed as badly is he did I'd be pissed too!

  • comparing 1989 to 1993, James really lost his voice between those years

  • @Flaggius If you watch the "Some Kind of Monster" documentary, James says he blew out his voice on the Black album tour singing "So What."

  • @Flaggius alcohol maybe?

  • @Flaggius Well in '91 he literally destroyed his vocal cords singing "so what" live

  • @Flaggius and comparing 1993 to now? xD

  • @Flaggius

maybe it was the 2 years of touring... lol

  • @F12antic

lol yea and also he didnt take care of his voice very much

everyone thinks it just went bad but it was actually him getting drunk and rockin out wit his cock out for like three years nonstop

  • @Flaggius Yeah but at least we no one thing. Jason never lost his! LOL

  • @clarikid Jason also only sang for about 15 minutes combined during a 2 hour set. Unlike James who sand all those 2 hours.

  • @Flaggius That's because James broke his voice during the recording of the black album

  • @123MetallicA1234 & touring

  • @Echo619 yes ;)

  • @Flaggius you aint a shittin

  • @Flaggius dude if u sing for 3 years almost every day u couldn't speak and see james now he still can do kickass stuff with his voice even after 20 years. i am sorry that he lost his voice so fucking what?!

  • @Flaggius his voice box blew in 92 probably the cause

  • @Flaggius I agree but it didn't completely go to shit until about 97 or 98. even on load his voice still sounds black albumish....if you really listen to alot of the songs....even tho the songs aren't nearly as good as the older stuff he still had that justice like voice there...you just gotta listen closely. by reload and the late 90s it went all to hell. in 03 it was horrendous (james' voice of course). now it's back to near this level (93) but I wish it was back to around 86-89 level....

  • @Flaggius try to do 260 show in about 3 years and you will surely sing like a dog trying to puke.

  • BACK TO THE FRONT!!!

  • i dont think he said things did he

    i actually dont know

all i know is guns n roses could of been metallicas "hero of the day" but axel had a fit and stormed off the stage

  • I wish they didn't drag this tour on so long... it ruined them basically. you can already tell James is losing his voice here and people think he just sucks now, but the truth is He would have been as good as ever if they hadn't toured for 3 years straight. His voice never had any time to heal and he never recovered. But I still love em. rock on!

  • it wasent the best tour was it

    riots in moscow in 1991

james burned alive followed by more riots in 1992

jason going bald in 1993 lol

  • Actually they toured for around 22 months, but still a long time. And they shouldn´t have toured for so long, but who knows what would have happened, if they had toured until, say until the end of '92. Probably would have released Load in '95. Or not. Who knows, it too complicated to predict.

  • And also the fact with certain voice box injuries, it won't ever fully heal.

  • I dunno why they stopped that lead part that kirk plays right before the chorus...

  • maybe they just forgot about it, they really didnt play this song all that often

in some of the recent performances they play that part

  • Basel 1993

  • Pretty darn good for Newsted. ^^

(HOLY SHIT! THEY ALL LOOK SO SKINNY!)

  • newstead's a great bassist, do you really think if he wasnt all that good they would let him be in one of the biggest metal bands to have EVER existed

listen to some of the bass tracks with him, i do like robert though, jason just seemed to fit the band better

  • Yeah, I know, he's pretty awesome, plays with Voïvod now, so i gotta give him props.

  • But Rob really pushes them to do better

  • yea way underated

  • WTF ur right!

  • Jason's backing vocals were amazing

  • good performance but its the better one in 86

  • There's a part missing..

The mini solo part before the refrain :S

  • Comment removed

  • this song fucking rocks

  • there in holland

  • think Basel, Swicarland...

  • oh my bad i have a dvd and this is on here

  • This isn't because of voice lessons, this is because he blew his voice-box. His voice peaked around '89.

  • jason vocals... their just missing very much...

  • 6:49 !!

  • james used to be cool before he got voice lessons

  • hey is it just me or does james sound different than in another live performances

  • because this was after his voice lessons, i think

  • yea, he got his voice lessons before the release of the black album

  • Zakk Wylde is the Metallica drummer?

  • wtf no

  • It was a joke dude look at 0:32

  • no its lars ulrich

  • i like how bass sounds in intro ! fuck yeah

  • Lars IS Jesus XD

  • have you seen Jesus lately???

  • what is this song not called?

  • I don't understand what you are asking.

  • this song had a different title originally, what was it? you know?

  • Oh, I don't know I thought the song was always called disposable heroes

  • @parkerman6 Back To The Front was the original title...

  • blue monkey erection

  • i'm pretty sure that was the original name for master of puppets, then it became purple monkey dishwasher!

  • @parkerman6 its not called shit.

  • 93 is the shit

  • i like this song it is alot of fun

  • MEtallica is the best!!! My favorite band, and i was born in '93 lol

  • Cool dude I was also born in '93.

  • totally awesome bro this is my favorite song of them lol yours?

  • To be honest I don't have a favorite song by them. I love all the songs from Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice For All, and some stuff off the Black Album.

  • I was born in 1993 also

but my favorite song is "The thing that should not be."

  • Wow you're yonger than my little sister

    Funny how years flow

  • waIT a sec. ?

isnt master of puppets from 86 ?

    :S

  • Yeah, but this live performance is from 1993.

  • Yeah, but he's just saying the song is from that album. The performance is from 93.

  • rob is better

  • Rob>Jason Rob=Cliff

  • cliff --> jason --> burrito

  • cliff is better than rob but rob is still great

  • I hate newstead. trujillo is a much better bass player

  • wow jasons tone SUCKS MOTHERFUCKING BIG TIME

  • It sounds like somebody is slamming the strings with a 2x4...but I like it. XD

  • Does he think he's in a scremo band or what? Creepy face too.

  • jason looks like a skinhead

  • Lars has a fucking sweet beard!!!! love it!!!! Metallica is the best band that will ever roam this universe!!!!

  • Love the way Jason roars into the mic. They've lost the aggression in the live performances now without him.

  • what's kirk wearing on his hand?

  • I believe I heard that's masking tape...it's supposed to keep the strings from cutting his hands or something. Not sure why it cuts his hands. I've never had that problem.

  • @gnrguitar13 I've had my hand bleeding at the palm once after playing creeping death 3 times in a row and some other things just slamming your hand on the bridge can really fuck it up xD

  • lmao i've never had that, but i've got hard skin on my palms from doing so much palm muting.

  • well its tape to help him from getting the back of his hand hurt since he is constantly palm muting or fast picking

  • yea i saw an interview his palms get irritated from all the palm muting so he tapes em

  • so jason cut his hair first huh? pussy..

  • amazing drumming 5/5

  • this is from Basel, Switzerland

  • bass sound is great

  • kinda slow but still awesome

  • the solo was perfect

  • Lars drumming pwns on this one. If only his drum kits sounded like that these days.

  • I just wonder why it is so slow.

  • BACK TO THE FRONT!!!!!!

  • lol lars looks like jesus

  • Lars > Jesus

    XD
