Very touching, very moving. A forgotten treasure that lies at the end of Speed of Sound. The critics of his solo work must have wax in their ears to not appreciate this!
Thanks for the gorgeous pictures of Paul. Loved him since I was seven and saw him on Ed Sulivan the first time. When I was little and he'd sing "close your eyes and I'll kiss you," I'd aways close my eyes. Still waiting for that kiss. He is beautiful and I hope he is very happy with his new wife.
if he had written this during the beatles period, they;d have raved over it-but because the hacks thought it fashionable to knock him in Wings period, it was ignored...genius!
you're going to think i am silly but this song always reminds me of my doxie, Sonja. I always thought she was so warm and beautful and she sat by side with me playing all my albums for many years! I will love her forever!
There cannot be enough ways to say "genius" when talking about Paul McCartney. This simple, haunting song exemplifies several sides of his talent - a simple and memorable melody, clear and simple harmonies, smooth keys changes and a lovely little musical bridge (with the two twanging guitars). Also it is the perfect length -3 1/2 mins. Superb.
This pure little song contrasts with his other masterpieces, for example, "Back seat of my car" ("We believe that we that we CAN't be wrong!"

@JMTBW that is so deep. Paul was pretty much the reason for teaching myself guitar and ever since I was a little girl (about 5 or 6 years old I think), Paul had always been my hero. (and p.s. my username isnt my real name; Michelle is a song Paul sang and I think it's the most beautiful one he sang, McCartney has to do with a nickname my friends at achool call me, and the number 17 is a little bit of lyrics from a song Paul sang - from I Saw Her Standing There......just to let u know)
That beautiful, beautiful, beautiful face...those dreamy, innocent eyes, that adorable, flirtacious smile, and of course who could ever forget that sweet, angellic voice... *sigh* James Paul McCartney... <33333
@MichelleMcCartney17 Oh, Michelle, I say the same thing. His face was burned into my mind and heart 46 years ago. His voice and his songs, by the grace of God, make me so happy. I thank God for him and I pray for him too. What a blessing he has been to this cold, cruel world.
He told me he hates you too and what you earn in a year at your job he carries in his pocket, also millions of people love him and your opion of him means absolutly nothing, he said your not good enough to be a pimple on his ass ,and said to tell you to have another dredfull day.
The whole album is quite hit and miss. there are some really bad ones, and some hits. Let Em In can be embarrasing but it's fun. So is Silly Love Songs.
Beware My Love is excellent, and Warm & beautiful is the greatest ballad of the album.
But songs like Cook Of The House and other ruin it.
Beautiful song. Wonder why it wasn't as widely known as other Beatles songs. I admire John, Paul and George. I can't never make up my mind who I like better.
You're right. Even though I like the Beatles's music, I hardly pay attention to Paul's songs in the post-Beatles era. I am only discovering the wonderful songs he did with Wings now --- three decades later!
Have a listen to some of the tracks on the album Chaos and Creation in the Back Yard. Some of them are astounding. They take a bit of getting used to, but you'll soon be hooked!
I've been a huge Beatles fan for some 45 years, and although John Lennon was my personal favorite, I don't think ANYONE - ever - had the talent to write a beautiful and simple love song as Sir Paul. Nearly every lp contained at least one gorgeous, tender love song. On this song, just listen to the strings on the last verse. Such an incredible talent!
In an interview he said it was written for Linda and how she inspired him throughout the years... "moonlight on the water gives me inspiration ever after" refers to a picture she took on a holiday they spend together in the early days...
