  • I was brought here because I got this song for free on Itunes. (long story.)

  • Hot Topic brought me here :) but I love Bright Eyes <3

  • This is such a great song :) and Conor's the greatest poet alive!

  • And his hands looked like a pomegranate.

I'm seeing them on monday I'm so going to try and give conor a pomegranate.

  • whats the stuff thats said at the end?

  • @ninimarinipanini Duh! It's the pomegranate guy! I think he's just like the ultimate stoner. Except for right at the end of the album, then he becomes a highly respected genius.

  • @ninimarinipanini it's Denny Brewer talking about something long talked about during the Mayan age but forgotten. Honestly, research DMT, AYAHUASCA, & MUSHROOMS... these aren't "hippy" drugs..they are medicines used for thousands of years. Oberst did these & are a heavy influence of this album. DMT IS BEAUTIFUL (:

  • I love Conner and I always will

  • my brother brought me here

  • A Mexican brought me here.

  • Anyways. How are you real bright eyes fans?

  • love this song!

  • Pomegranate guy = Epic.

  • the radio on tv brought me hear

  • I don't if you guys know this... but no he does not read the reviews... and he is not singing for you :)

  • shut the fuck up about the fucking vampire diaries omg

  • Wtf is the vampire diaries???

  • ...The vampire diaries? What the hell. Get away you stupid fags.

  • What is the vampire diaries? Bright Eyes is in itself the only reason to know / like this song. Conor Oberst is just a bonus for them and there is nothing wrong with trying to expand his horizons in music, so I really can not believe those who say that it's just mainstream hipster bullshit. Reviewers and other critics: Give space, here is a band who dare. You should have seen them at the Roskilde festival. Most reviewers grumbled, but frankly. It was the coolest ever!

  • thumbs up if Vampire Diaries didn't bring you here, and you're a true Conor Oberst fan <3

  • This song being awesome and playing on my international flight about 5 times brought me here. Fuck the vampire diaries.

  • This song is rad

  • Why do vampires keep ruining all of my music? first Muse, now Conner Oberst? damn you sparkly vampires.

  • @DaKingThief No. Sparkly Vampires do not exist. That's a fairy. A very hot man who plays a Vampire in a bigger hit TV show The Vampire Diaries, does not sparkle. He burns in the sun. Before you try to make an insult I would get you facts right.

    Have a nice day :)

  • Fuck Vampires. Twilight was shit, Harry Potter was awesome. No competition. So just sit back and listen to the fucking music.

  • I came here because I'm a fan on Bright Eyes and I have been for many years.... Ian Somerhalder and his fans can go home.

  • @infiniteladies that is exactly how i felt when i read that at the top. oh well props to us who have been blessed by conor this long. we are that much ahead of them.

  • i brought myself here because i am a bright eyes fan :P

  • To be honest i don't think this is a display of Conor going 'mainstream'. I think it's just Conor wanting to try out some new stuff in his music. He has said in interviews that he has been influenced greatly in his time away from bright eyes, and this is the product. A good thing about Conor is that he's always changing it up, respect it :)

  • This makes me feel..angry, or sad I don't even know. I don't know who Conor is but this isn't who he is. This is a facade to create mainstream 'hipster tunes.' Anyway. I miss the troubled, poignant boy from Omaha who wasn't afraid to express true emotion and feeling into beautiful songs. Trendy, meaningless pop culture. In my opinion.

  • can everyone shut up about vampires

  • Well Ian Somerhalder has impecable good taste in music. That's what brought me here, my taste in music, not Ian Somerhalder.

  • wat kind of name is Ian Somerhalder... sounds like a romanian porn star

  • No vampires plz.. get your hands off of my favorite band !

  • Who the fuck is Ian Somerhalder? I'm here because Bright Eyes makes amazing music..

  • um.. it seems different... not the same brighteyes i remember listening to... idk maybe its just me.

  • @qwentonomore Yeah they lost the...folk-y bit for this album (:

  • @SileSomers o..

  • I don't know who this Ian Somerhalder guy is, but fuck him.

  • It's not the same Bright Eyes. It is good just not the same. Complee genre change.

  • i wonder if im the only teenager listening to this stuff..............

  • @supercoolmusician no you're not. im 15 and i listen to this stuff!

  • REPLAY BUTTON RAPE

  • Fuck Vampires. Conor Oberst is reason enough for me to listen to this song, and anything else by Bright Eyes.

  • This song makes me dance cringily in my chair

  • Yup. Totally Ian's fault. I couldn't help myself. *facepalm* :D

  • Thumbs up if you like Phyrexia over Mirrodin.

  • um, my obsession with bright eyes brought me here. yeah.

  • wha the hell are all of these people bringing people places!? i want one!

  • ourvinyl.com brought me here...

  • My own will brought me here. :D

  • Ian somerhalder DID NOT bring me here!!! I have good taste on my own as well as he does :)

  • ay it look like a pomegranate (:

  • who is ian somerhalder..

  • Ian Somerhalder brought me here too :D

  • silvia brought me here

  • @tequilasunrise815 silvia loves you!!!

  • I'm here because of Ian Somerhalder, cuz he listened to it 10 times a day ♥ :) So I thought it must be good :D

  • @EdwardsBella15 Haha Ian brought me here too. I'm such a dork!

  • Ian and Somerholics ;)

  • Ian Somerhalder has brought me here ² ;D

  • I love this music! :D

  • ian somerhalder is right this song is awesome!!

  • ian somerhalder brought me here :D

  • Ian Somerhalder brought me here..!! :)

  • @DeniseInChains same! saw it on twitter :)

  • somerhalders

  • IAN SOMERHALDER FROM THE VAMPIRE DIARIES SAID HE LISTENED TO THIS 10 TIMES IN A ROW

  • @therick106 I don't blame him! I'm willing to beat his record of 10 >:)

  • Ian Somerhalder is a son of a bitch ;D

Makin me listen to this awesome music...what's wrong with him? Haha jkjk

  • me too..damon salvatore brought me here =)

  • Ian Somerhalder brought me here! :)

  • Ian Somerholder brought me here!

  • Jesus I want to buy this album all over the place.... and that's saying something coming from a frequently cashless teen with a tendency for thrifty bullshit spending. xP But my Jesus... I love Bright Eyes... So freaking much.

  • seeing this live was perfection

  • Bright eyes did a cover of kodachrome too... Give us the GREEEENN of summers...

  • The beginning makes me go crazy I love this song <3

  • Man, at first I thought that the intro was going to be like in Fastball's "The Way".

  • I love new album!!!

  • It's a new sound. I don't protest it, but, I'd have to say... I appreciated the styles of songs such as Landlocked Blues and Lime Tree much more. Connor Oberst will always be my favorite. :)

  • gotta say, not a fan of the new sound

  • @Shrewify i personally love everything bright eyes does haha but im a die-hard fan.i understand your point though, Conor's voice has a quiver to it that seems like it's made for songs like lua

  • gotta say, not a fan of the new sound

  • COME FIRE COME WATER COME KARMA

  • love the album, love the song, but hate the talking that's in a number of the songs, including the end of this one....

  • i thought this album wasn't as good as his others AT FIRST. But the peoples key is an experience. You have to really listen to every single song and it will all fall into place. I absolutely love the peoples key. It is a beautiful piece of art.

"we are jejune stars.....i'll die young at heart" come on, tell me that isn't conor at his best.

  • @CrystalWTHS Yeah dude, I feel the same way. I was pretty hesitant at first, but then I listened more carefully and started to appreciate it more.

  • lol, Blast Beats!!!

  • yeah this song everyday

  • Somebody saw something!

  • I'm not a huge fan of their newest album, but this song is pretty cool. I'll always love Bright eyes though.

  • Heyyy!! This looks like a pomegranate!

  • thanks bright eyes. for solidifying my already solidified belief that pitchforkmedia is run by a bunch of morons who just like to knock shit down to attempt to make up for their own lacks of musical talent.

  • this is sooooo awsome. i love connor!!! im trying to figure out why this song sounds slightly raggae to me. does anyone else think so?

  • goddammit...there has to be something wrong with me...been a conor fan since 04, have loved everything he has ever done...except for this album...pray for me

  • So I've been debating with myself over whether I felt this was the best song on the People's Key...Im going to say it is...although the whole album is absolutely wonderful, I would have to say that this is my favorite.

  • How'd it get so dark in the day?

  • so so sos so so so so so sos sosos os so so so so good.

  • Fucking killed this song last night in Chicago. Reminded me of old school Desparacidos Conor.

  • hey that looks like a pomegranate

  • Excellent song. Best on the new album, and the album SOOO much better than Cassadaga.

  • Love this song! I think it's their best song on this album, but Ladder Song is really good too! I think their old music is a little better though

  • I absolutely love this song. Definitely the best on the album and one of the overall best bright eyes songs yet.

  • 0 dislikes. damn right.

  • First time I listened to this song I almost choked. I was eating a pomegranate.

  • I understand that people wont always enjoy a change in sound or style but musicians like all artists need to experiment and grow. I feel that experimentation and growth have always been somewhat central in all of the bright eyes releases to date, this one being no exception to that. I enjoy the album a great deal and find the lyrics to be rather poetic in nature. Thank you.

  • Oh yeah, at OP...nice name.

  • Does anyone else hear Fast Ball's The Way? When I caught myself singing The Way today, I wondered why....then it hit me. When I told my girlfriend, she got pissed because I ruined this song for her. I'm sorry to everyone whose heads I put The Way into with this comment.

  • @cawarhur D: your right.......

  • im honestly suprised so many people don't like this album, i think it's brilliant. This song, shell games and haile selassie are so good. i do agree about the lyrics being thrown together a fair bit, he's lost that story telling side of things that he used to have, which i always loved but instrumentally and just musically in general i think this is one of the best albums...

  • Lion King 1:52-1:56?

  • Your not a true bright eyes fan if you hate the new conor that much. it's the same as when bob dylan when to electric guitar. It's their choice not yours. If your a true fan you'll take in and understand where the artist as a person is going and not look at them as just their music.

  • So many people complaining that it isn't his best? lol How about he stopped doing drugs and stopped being so damn depressed. How about he progressed as a human being and grew up into a logical man. I prefer the new conor over the old conor. Yes he had some amazing songs when he was sad and depressed and angry but come on really? Can you really hate on him for getting out of the darkness. This album is amazing and it doesn't sound main stream. You won't hear this album on the radio or anything.

  • @JohnRojasMusic

it's by far his most radio friendly album actually, not that it's a measure of how good the album is.

I'm going to go ahead and quote the pitchfork album review, it seems Conor has, in parts, simply thrown words which "sound good together but don't mean anything side by side", furthermore, concluding that The Peoples Key is a spiritual album with very little soul.

I'm inclined to agree with that review, i've been a fan for some time, but i think it's the bottom of the pile.

  • @timonweels Completely agree.

  • @timonweels Idk if I would agree with that review. At least not in reference to this song. If you have a shallow field of thought then this song may blow right over your head, but if you piece together the lyrics it's just a rather cryptic way of Conor saying he is constantly dealing with the cognitive dissonance of showing a truer self in (various) situations.

  • @streatlightbmx

use of term "cognitive dissonance" = narcissistic. I don't think that telling me i have a "shallow field of thought" is productive, nor do i think the song "blew over my head". Besides which, this song is about pregnancy, "the rain" is a reference to Conors fear of being sprayed by amneotic fluid and urine from a womans vagina during labour. "Jejune" refers to the smell of these substances, while "stars" describes their appearance following crystalisation on Conors face. etc.

  • @timonweels I study psychology, so I apologize if I don't have a better way of explaining cognitive dissonance. Also, I should have said "one" instead of you, but I was avoiding typing like a douche. Regardless of the what the literal meaning is my description still holds true, even to the description you gave me. But I appreciate your opinionated insight. Try not to take offense next time someone responds to your opinion on youtube though.

  • @timonweels" Conors fear of being sprayed by amneotic fluid and urine from a womans vagina during labour"

well that takes the cake for the weirdest thing i've read today. Which isnt a bad thing at all, always down to read a good mind fuck via youtube comment haha.

  • @timonweels I disagree, I don't think these lyrics are just thrown together. I think they are more cryptic and thought out, and not so literal. Very poetic. I find this album a satisfying follow up to "I'm Wide Awake", and "Digital Ash". Love it! :)

  • For it all sounds like a mix between Cassadaga and Digital Ash. But I think it is awesome!

  • Anyone who's shocked that Conor Oberst doesn't sound like he sounded the last time clearly never understood him.

  • You guys need to calm down. I know this isn't the Conor Oberst we know from Letting of the Happiness or Fevers and Mirrors, but it's still him. He's grown up and he's changed. It's clear he's progressed both mentally and emotionally and he's so close to his music that his work is going to be a clear reflection of that. Honestly I'm glad, Conor sounds happy.

  • Anyone who says this one of Bright Eye's better albums obviously isn't a real fan. This sound likes mainstream bullshit. This is one of the biggest let downs.

  • @geoffreyyeah if you were a true fan, you wouldn't say that.

  • @rahjah9311 I am a true fan, of his good music. This was just a disaster.

  • I know i already commented on this,but it`s just soooooo good,that i can`t stop listening this. It`s amazing. Bright Eyes forever :)

  • I can't express enough on how much I love this album...

  • what asshole said this is the best bright eyes album?? shut the fuck up. its okay... but why dont you try buying one of his first 4 and then dare say anything. can't wait to buy this though. I sold cassadaga back.

  • @somecallmejames It's a matter of opinion dude.. oh and btw, theres a total of 7 Bright Eyes albums now ("Cassadaga", "Digital Ash in Digital Urn", "Letting Off Happiness", "Fevers and Mirrors", "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning", "Lifted or The Story is in the Soil, Keep your Ear to the Ground", and now "The People's Key", plus a TON of EP's, singles and projects involving Conor Oberst) and I have to say this is one of the better ones.. I like this better than some of their other albums.

  • @rahjah9311 yah, i own them all, dont forget the splits either... I said first four for a reason... because his first four full lengths are his best, actually my FAV by him is his split with Denova.

  • @rahjah9311 that said, I said it was an Okay album, and it is, can't wait to get it, certainly better than cassasdaga.

  • @somecallmejames Yeah, he doesn't jus have 4 albums tho, jus making sure u knew that.. the split with Nevo Dinova was pretty amazing I agree, but I have to say my favorite is Lifted.. This album is amazing though, there is nothing by Bright Eyes/Conor that I don't like..

  • I heard the Double bass and spazzzzzzzzed

  • 1. Cassadaga

    2. The People's Key

    3. Conor Oberst

    4. I'm Wide Awake It's Morning

    5. Digital Ash In a Digital Urn

    6. Lifted or the Story is in the Soil

  • it looks like a pomegranate

  • can't stop listening to this. its fucking amazing

  • It's sad because this is their last tour. ):

Thumbs up if you're going to see them at Radio City!

  • Can`t stop listening this.Great.

  • I love this song now. The entire album is a 5/5! :)

  • @TheBrightEyesatheist There are very few albums I can actually listen to from beginning to end... This is one of those albums. :)

  • best song from the best album by bright eyes!

  • @RaduCiobanu While a great album, definitely NOT their best album.

  • @RaduCiobanu Amazing album, but definitely not their best album. Guess I'm just a huge old school fan. ;)

  • @RaduCiobanu correction: best song ever from the best album ever.

  • @RaduCiobanu

    Poison Oak > Jejune Stars.

    And so do many others.

(Not that this isn't a good song.)

  • Bright Eyes+double bass=I like

  • My favorite song by far. Damn, this is good.

  • Can't stop. 15 times today. Last song I could not only tolerate but enjoy that many times in one day wasof Montreal's Enemy Gene. Maybe Black Keys' Ten Cent Pistol.

  • @Waxinasss Enemy gene is amazing :)

  • whoa bright eyes are gettin louder

  • Luving this
