Lyrics here: Neito nuori aina iloinen on (Säv. & san. trad. / Nina Martiskainen) Neito nuori aina iloinen on, vierailla mailla kulkeissakin. Tule armaani, elä jää, oma rakkaani olet sä. Tule armaani, elä jää, oma rakkaani olet sä. Sinä olet siellä, minä olen täällä, rakkaus se meidän välillä on. Tule armaani, elä jää... Rakkauden tiellä eksynyt on ystävä, minut hyljännyt on. Tule armaani, elä jää...
The lyrics of the song is Finnish. You can find it easily e.g. from the use of the two words "armas" and "rakas" (darling). Karelian "armaš" is "rakas" in Finnish. "Rakas" in Karelian means "willing, eager or friendly" not "darling".
The lady singing here probably can't speak either Karelian or Finnish: She has quite strong Russian accent which makes it difficult to identify the language she is using in this song.
OMFG. My guess is: The first Russian (then Soviet) who came to Äänislinna (Petrozavodsk) saw a Finnish soldier in Finnish field grey uniform speaking western Finnish. So he thought western Finns were the original people of Karelia. He never knew Russia had killed off 350000 of the original Karelians. And about the same amount fled back to Finland.
I hate how people try to prove how much they know on here just listen to the music and stop trying to correct everyone, unless ur 100 per cent sure and willing to lay ur life on the line of ur words pathetic people but hey this music is virgin, this is how music should be ''kantele'' It is sad how Europeans are selling out to 'AMERICAN CULTURE'..maybe I didnt word that right but anyway... Europeans have class, they have culture.. pls stick with it = ) this is captivating

Karjalian IS a Finnish sub-language. The Bolsheviks pushed us out of Karjala. Some stayed believing in the digma, but like my father's family, most had to leave. Guess you could call it Russian now, they stole the land that bears it's name.
Even though the camera was shaking throughout, I did not mind too much as I have been enjoying the music much more. I especially liked the short instrumental pieces. Although I am hardly fluent in Russian or in Karelia, I found the singing piece in the last 1/3 of this video quite interesting. Thankies for posting it ... ;)

@TheAnitamus
This language is much older than Finland, though now the Finns are the most numerous of its users (from the real Uralic nations).

Lovely music. It reminds me of how the heart breaks when the winter just doesn't seem to end.
