Income tax is lower now than it has been since before WWII. Corporate tax law is full of loopholes, so most corporations don't pay anything close to the percentage conservatives claim. Also, many libertarians have said we should get rid of the Income Tax so I'm not sure who you're citing.

Cenk's statement is a general one. There are many people who call themselves conservative who do not want to pay taxes that may fund certain programs such as food stamps or what they call "welfare." The fact is too many low income people try to live outside of their means or they get dependent on the government. Unemployment payments are a prime example. Many people are not motivated to look for employment because unemployment pays more.

"Live beyond means" is a very loose term. I know people from every range lower to upper middle that "live beyond their means." What is middle class? What is a fair middle class? What material wealth should the average American have and what labor and wage should be fair to provide that?

A person making 3000 a month for 8 years who then loses their job can't work for 1500 because they have attuned to a particular cost of living. if they work for half as much their house is foreclosed on and they go bankrupt which costs the government and us money anyways. I do think the system needs reform and I do think people abuse unemployment, but I also think you are misrepresenting it.

If I wanted the benefits of a police service or fire department without being willing to pay for them then yes, that would be greedy, but wanting to "opt out" of universal health care or education and instead pay my own way is perfectly reasonable. If you respond that only the rich would choose that route, leaving the system underfunded then you are admitting the real goal is to "make the rich pay" for your health care or education. There's a word for that: Greedy.

The thing is, by composing the principles mostly with 'obviously' good things, Beck adds in some of his own motives into the other principles. A lot of the principles are about being a good, patriotic, Christian, which captures his viewers. Then, he also adds conservative/anti-government principles that are cleverly phrased to seem believable, and so it's easy for his viewers, who are already under his spell, to blindly agree. Glenn Beck isn't stupid - he's horribly cunning.
In their defense, most conservatives ( and I live in a predominately conservative town) don't have a problem with taxes that go to the firefighters, road maintenance, or police. I think it's more or less the welfare programs they are against. I dont agree with them on that aspect, but I understand their argument.

Income tax is lower now than it has been since before WWII. Corporate tax law is full of loopholes, so most corporations don't pay anything close to the percentage conservatives claim. Also, many libertarians have said we should get rid of the Income Tax so I'm not sure who you're citing.

Everything you say may be true but its not exactly relevant. of course corporate tax is littered with loopholes, its part of the problem. So income tax is lower than wwII, there's countless other taxes now that didn't even exist then. So some libertarians are suggesting no income tax? That doesn't mean taxes won't exist. My point remains, NOBODY is saying firefighters and policemen should be contracted privately.

This who;e discussion brings up a good point. Income tax is progressive, but sales tax and property tax are not. The truth is that most taxes are paid by the middle and lower class. If Income tax were eliminated the wealthy would pay very little. Who really needs the governments protection when it comes to wealth?

The fact is too many low income people try to live outside of their means or they get dependent on the government. Unemployment payments are a prime example. "Live beyond means" is a very loose term. I know people from every range lower to upper middle that "live beyond their means." What is middle class? What is a fair middle class? A person making 3000 a month for 8 years who then loses their job can't work for 1500 because they have attuned to a particular cost of living. if they work for half as much their house is foreclosed on and they go bankrupt which costs the government and us money anyways. I do think the system needs reform and I do think people abuse unemployment, but I also think you are misrepresenting it.

I don't agree with what Glenn Beck says all the time, but TYT aren't even trying to be fair. First off, Glenn beck was probably the only conservative that spoke AGAINST President Bush when he was in office. He hated President Bush's policies ESPECIALLY the Patriot Act and torture.
The second major spin is on charity. The point Glenn tries to make about charity is that the government shouldn't be responsible for the poor, YOU need to be charitable and help people instead of letting others do it.

The charitable principle is not aimed at civic duty such as police and firemen and schools, it is aimed at government giveaways to those who do not deserve it. Recent example would the billions given to failed financial organizations who then rewarded CEO's with million dollar bonuses from taxpayer money.
And, have TYT forgotten the government is supposed to get its authority from the people?
The rationale that government is the big boss is a recipe for disaster. That has to stop.

If I wanted the benefits of a police service or fire department without being willing to pay for them then yes, that would be greedy, but wanting to "opt out" of universal health care or education and instead pay my own way is perfectly reasonable. If you respond that only the rich would choose that route, leaving the system underfunded then you are admitting the real goal is to "make the rich pay" for your health care or education. There's a word for that: Greedy.

@elperromagico Yes, opting out of fire, police or public education is perfectly reasonable provided you pay for those things yourself. The "scheme" whereby you don't have to pay for anybody else is referred to as the free market. If you choose to help your fellow man and contribute to your community out of a sense of enlightened self interest that's one thing, if you are compelled to do so by force that's quite another.

The thing is, by composing the principles mostly with 'obviously' good things, Beck adds in some of his own motives into the other principles. A lot of the principles are about being a good, patriotic, Christian, which captures his viewers. Then, he also adds conservative/anti-government principles that are cleverly phrased to seem believable, and so it's easy for his viewers, who are already under his spell, to blindly agree. Glenn Beck isn't stupid - he's horribly cunning.

In their defense, most conservatives ( and I live in a predominately conservative town) don't have a problem with taxes that go to the firefighters, road maintenance, or police. I think it's more or less the welfare programs they are against. I dont agree with them on that aspect, but I understand their argument.

No conservative actually tries to argue that police and firefighters are bad. Maybe the occasional wackjob but you'll see similiar numbers of people attempting to argue the example used in 2:25,( i.e. practically nobody.)
