But The radar system in Gripen was not Nato-compatability so SAAB had to downgrade the system for those who decide the Gripen. And for your information Gripen gave the best intell in Libya.

What was the message u like to convey through this tube? I can't get anything from these mere pictures of these 2 jets. Moreover the Mirage 200-5 was a bygone era plane that is not been manufactured anymore. The French has tried with Mirage 4000, same widespread design with dual engines. They were dependent on funds for the projects which they were banking on the Saudis. When the Saudis purchaces the F-15 over the M-4000, they abandoned the projects altoughter. Rafale is the prize catch now.

I think that Grippen is better than Mirage and that's surely, but France built better than Grippen airplane, which named Rafale. I think, that's possible it's better than Eurofighter.

Anyway, I think that French constructions are better, because they have a lot of experience, but I'm supprised that Rafale doesn't sell the best.

The Gipen is a excellent aircraft, but not realy comparable with the Mirage 2000: the Gripen is a very light fighter,design to be cost efficient and relative simple to operate , but the Mirage a light fighter with much more capabilities (twice the military load,faster,better radar,etc...).

Tne states must buy what he need to take he's specific missions...

Gripen carries a AESA radar witch is moutch better than Mirages, and it is faster and more flexible. Mirrage would probably lose against Gripens preddecessor, JA37 Viggen, this isnt a fair match.

@TheSwekebab anything, the Gripen is not yet equipped with an active radar AESA but only a passive radar PESA! the Mirage 2000 flew as fast as the Gripen, the Mirage 2000 had the best rate of climb in the world at its output, for electronics, it has undergone changes as any modern aircraft, pilots on Mirage Indian love for his skills flying!

well the mirage 2000 is a 30 year old design, but still pretty decent with last upgrades.

gripen is way too modern to be compared with the mirage 2000, you should compare rafale and gripen. but rafale would certainly win ;)

@s0undActivist We are talking about Mirage 2000-9 (MK2) and not Mirage 2000 here. Mirage 2000-9 has improvised avionics, upgraded Radar and better T/W ratio Engine.

It is equipped with modern electronic warfare systems + radar jammer pods.

Only thing it has inherited from Mirage2000 is the airframe.

However change is airframe was not essential because delta wing airframes have been found better in performance than tail fins.

im talking about air superiority fighters here.. you dont realize the planes you just mentioned are all bombers, strategic bombers or multirole fighters ? exception of the concorde which is civilian aircraft. and to be 100% effective a delta plane needs canards to help stabilize,and thus incresing its radar signature. so what do you think air superiority fighters are using ? delta ? think again.

@s0undActivist Multirole fighter doesn't mean its a dedicated bomber. As name suggest, It a fighter aircraft along-with additional role(usually air-to-surface attacks and sometimes reconnaissance/escorts)

Multirole fighters have evolved with 4+gen aircrafts as gen 3+/- aircrafts were manufactured with a dedicated role as in strike/air superiority/bomber/reconnaissa­nce etc.

Tailfins/canards + shifting nozzles are very much required for obtaining thrust vectoring and low speed maneuverability

Air superiority fighter - Weapons bay, targeting/tracking radar and cannons are designed for air combat and support mainly A2A armament. Aerodynamics are designed for very high speed cruise/maneuverability.

The airframes are generally very light weight weight with high performance engines (Thrust/weight ration > 1).This makes aircraft very difficult to track/engage hence perfect for dogfight

Multirole Fighter : Weapons bay, tracking/targeting radar and cannons are designed to contain both, ground and air attack capabilities. Weapons bay can support multiple combinations of A2A or A2G weapons and radars are capable of tracking/engaging multiple air/ground targets at same time.

Airframes are generally very strong and heavy so as to support very heavy weight ground attack bombs but weight is further reduced by using alloys and composites. Contd..

1st multi-role fighter which came into existence was american F-16 and based on success of this aircraft, others developed multirole fighters as well

MIG 21 wasn't capable of beyond visual range combat until the 90's, and that was thanks to third party upgrade program performed by an israeli company. The Draken on the other hand got it in the mid 60's.

The F-16 was an inferior dogfighter to the Viggen until... well until the Viggen went out of service in 2005.

So, well, why care about two planes that would get their asses handed to them by two long gone Swedish fighters?
