  • the daleks have PLENTY of emotion. they took all the "weak" stuff out...

  • everything about this is bad

  • The dalek could easily have shot him form the bottom of the stairs, he just knew he'd look cool flying up there

  • @Drwhofanindatardis u hav a fair point

  • God i miss cliffhangers like this bring them bck in the new dr who lol when i first saw this episode i thaught damn the daleks stuck down stairs lol next thing all i see is it flying up the starirs lol bck in the early 90s

  • Why doesn't the dalek just shut up and exterminate the bloody doctor!

  • The end is really scary.

The music, the Dalek's view, the Doctor's expression... even the transition to the closing credits!

  • Ace got kneed in the balls...what, how did she get knocked out if she doesn't have any?

  • @haydos271 she was kneed in the stomache and had the wind knocked out of her

  • @Gazz1982 Typical girl. xD

  • fans thinking at the end:oh crude

  • This is truly a classic. Check out the re-enactment of it that me and my friend did.

    /watch?v=hP44gxTgnwQ

  • totally agree with all13doctors!! drives me mad!! just watched a "doctor who best moments" on bbc3 and they were going on about how it was going to change the fear of daleks forever as it was the first time!! these people work for the show do they really not know there own shows history! GRR!

  • Pisses me off that the press think that 2005 was the first time a Dalek made an ascent! Floated in Revelation, climbed stairs in Rememberence!

  • @all13Doctors Traveled between the floors on the Mary Celeste in The Chase! And that was in the 60's!

  • Irnonically I was watching this story today.

  • Seeing this cliffhanger is one of the few memories from my early childhood that I recall vividly. As great as the new series is, you certainly don't get suspense like this any more...

  • @fragglet I saw this when I was only about 4 and just remembered it today.

  • Old School Daleks don't do stairs. They flatten buildings.

  • Did he knee Ace in the balls?

  • did he knee that chick in her non existent nuts?

  • The msuic from 0:35 is awesome - brings back happy memories :)

  • I can just imagine the 7th Doctor quoting what the 4th had said in 'Destiny Of The Daleks', i.e. "If you're supposed to be the most ruthless beings in the cosmos, why not try climbing up here after me" (or words to that effect). Then the 7th Doctor turns around and shouts "holy mother of XXXXXX". lol

  • That would be utter gold!

  • Would you please post the whole scene where the Emperor Dalak (Davros) first appears? Not when the dome opens, just where he first appears in the story.

  • Actually, the slave force consisted of whatever poor schmucks happened to crash on Skaro.

  • "The only reason I uploaded this video is because some idiot on IMDb actually claimed to own Remembrance of the Daleks on DVD but somehow denied that there was any such scene with flying or hovering Daleks in it. Well, this is for you, genius!"

    Heh heh, nice.

  • That look that the Doctor has at the end is "Oh crap, there goes that strategy..."

  • The Doctor has a kind of absent minded professor thing going on here. :) "They usually have an operator on site" "Which would be another Dalek" "Yes!' You would think he would have figured that out himself beforehand. :)

  • So true. It's why I love the seventh Doctor so much. He can be outsmarted genuinely and subtly by his companion. :D

  • This is one of my favorite DW scenes of all time. The Doctor has a "LOLWUT" moment when Ace reminds him that another Dalek is needed to run the transmat, and then his eyes almost pop out of his head at the end when he realizes Daleks can hover.

  • @warszawianka

    Oh sorry, UGGHH.

For some reason that bit cracked me up. :)

Yeah, I liked the dcotor with Ace. He had his absent minded professor moments, but there ware also little moments where he told ace one thing or another to test her. In the final episode of his run, she was turning into some cat like creature and he warned her that if she saved everyone she would be stuck like that.

She chose to risk herself to save everyone, and the changes weren't as permanent as he said.

  • @tf2whackyengineer

He seemed to test her to see if she would sacrifice herself for others and she did, even if it wasn't as dangerous as he said she believed it was.

  • why do all daleks say "DO NOT MOVE"

do they know no one is going to obey that.

but they end up dead any way.

  • "DO NOT MOVE!" ::people flee:: "DAMM-IT! EV-ER-Y TIME!"

  • Aha! stairs! the only weakness of a dalek!

Dalek:Fool! did you ever see Remembrance of the Daleks?

    Me:no.. (dies)

  • picture too dark

  • please give us the full episode

  • I know Keff McCulloch has come in for his fair share of criticism over the years, but his music here hits the mark perfectly.

  • the Daleks voices are at their best in this adventure !!!......i think ?

  • "STAIRS!" A line that has since been repeated be both the ninth and tenth Doctors :p.

  • My first ever memory!

  • this was the first time we saw daleks flying up some steps or stair but if you look back other stories The Chase 1965 Day Of The Daleks 1972, Revalation Of the Daleks we see Davros hovering over Orseany giving a clear hint that daleks can title a flight of stairs but just take a look at Dalek Invasion Of Earth from 1964

which kills that joke off when the dalek suprime says well this buggers are plans to conquer the unvierse

  • @gallafey the Daleks from the old school never did stairs. they flatten buildings

  • Ace wakes up, she opens the door just in time, and they lock the Dalek inside. As far as I remember anyway, I haven't seen this since it was first aired in the 80's.

  • What happens?! I must know!!

  • Haha the look on the Doctor's face is priceless when he see's the Dalek flying up the stairs.

  • Its hilarious how The Doctor says: "the stairs!" LOLs they dint see that one coming! :D

  • That dalek sounds like zippy out of rainbow

  • That's because Roy Skelton, the guy who did Zippy, did do Dalek work since Genesis

  • oh never never knew that. you live and learn

  • Actually the fist episode where he voiced daleks was 1967's Evil of the daleks

  • You take a voice smaple of zippy and run it through Audacity on killeringer and see what you get! :)

  • Back when Daleks were Daleks instead of CG bullshit! Remembrance is the greatest Dalek story of all time. With, of course, the best Dalek voices too thanks to Roy Skelton.

  • RIGHT ON!

  • @OtaKing77077 Er... CG? The Daleks have never been CG. At least get your facts right before you criticise the new series.

  • @Toribot I think he means for the shot of the Dalek going up the stairs. Now-adays they'd do the easy thing and CGI it...and It doesn't look right...This scene is perfect

  • @Toribot What about all the daleks in "Doomsday"? They were CG.

  • I think this is the most Remembral scene from doctor who history

  • OMG! That was the scariest thing I have ever seen!

  • My favourite dalek story, although some complain that the music is dated, screw them it was good for it's time!!!

I like lots of drums and synths

  • @furyplum44 totally agree with you. If there was an award for truly great incidental music Rememberance in my view wins it hands down:-)

  • As an aside, I love the way it looks like that bloke kneed Ace in the balls to knock her out lol

  • I remember seeing this as a kid and being terrified that the Dalek could climb the stairs. Now I just think "Why the bloody hell didn't the Dalek just point it's gun upwards and shoot him from the ground?" You're a mechanical killing machine, just get on with it you pillock haha.

  • I can imagine watching this on t.v and being like " ah fuck, now they gonna die"

  • Oh, yes! The hovering Dalek! I love this serial and this cliffhanger in particular.

Doctor: The Daleks usually leave an operator on station in case it malfunctions.

Ace: Aaaand that would be... another Dalek.

    Doctor: lol wut

Annoying Dalek: STAY WHERE YOU ARE! DO NOT MOVE!

  • annoying dalek ...,the voices of the daleks were much better back then !

  • Definitely...but even the best Dalek voice is still annoying. :)

  • Lol the dalek was like: "OMFG stop spawn-killing j00 noob!"

  • What happens? LOL

I haven't watched this in aaaages.

  • Ace wakes up, knees the headmaster in the balls and opens the door

  • I've got this story on DVD and have to tell you that its very good as if anybody has not got this story I reccommend that you do as its one of McCoy's best ever stories!

  • MAN, I have to get this on DVD!

  • Best cliffhanger EVER!!!!!!

  • OH NOES! IT CLIMBS STAIRS! o.o

    lol.

  • it really is a great scene

i will never get y the world thinks they only fly in the new series

they flew in the previous dalek story as well

  • yes, but pretty much only in this story!

  • I remember this as my earliest doctor who episode. I must have been four years old, and believe me I did scurry for the proverbial haven behind the sofa. To this day I remember that, and it was absolutely brilliant.

  • Someone tell me how he escaped, i can't see a way out...

  • From what I remember, Ace knocks out the headmaster, opens the door, the Doctor comes out and they lock the Dalek in there. And all that time it just keeps shouting "EXTERMINATE" and doesn't even bother to fire.

  • I have a theory about that, because Daleks arn't 100% clear of emotion, that's why they shout exterminate, it's a sick cry of victory knowing they're about to kill...now times that by 1000 when it comes to the Doctor...They want to put as much fear into him as possible...

Either that...or the dalek just couldn't find the fire buttonxD

  • @TheOnComingStorm121 As I recall the Ninth Doctor said, Davros removed all emotion from his creations, except for hate. That's where their battle cry comes from. They despise anything that isn't a Dalek. And yeah, the Daleks love a bit of intimidation. That's why the one in 2005's 'Dalek' didn't fly straight at Rose but instead chose to hover slowly up the stairs after her.

  • @Kaagh178 See I never l liked that explination, because Dalek's arn't clear of ALL emotions except hate, because xenophobia is a FEAR of anything different, and that's what fuels the Daleks, their hate is generated from fear.

  • @TheOnComingStorm121 Their only problem is that their battle cry is both their greatest asset and their greatest weakness. In the amount of time they take to repeat their catchphrase, their prey have either escaped or destroyed them. It takes them the ages to kill anyone.

  • @TheOnComingStorm121 Since the dalek shells move by Physcokenesis (literally thinking moves them) it must take more effort to physically levitate with the aid of the hover skirt. However it could also be a power consumption thing, since it's a techie dalek and not combat based you could argue that it isn't physically built for combat and flight....but I'm splitting hairs and being nerdy. XD Love this story though, has to be my favorite dalek one.

  • @bazookoidben That's actually a very good theory...I hadn't thought of that.

  • @TheOnComingStorm121 Which is why I love the new Daleks, feels like the classic series where they are now made for more than just combat, since they where just combat they felt like they could only blow things up. Now that have more of a ranking system they feel far more like a proper empire.

  • @TheOnComingStorm121 It's the Cybermen that are clear of emotions; the Daleks only have one emotion, and that is hatred.

  • @progrockcoffee Well see I don't think that, I prefer the idea the Daleks just don't have any POSATIVE emotions. It's evident they still have fear...

  • Dude! That would be just creepy! The 7th doctor is my favorite!

  • This still sends shivers down my spine!

  • Yeeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhh - that's kiiiiiiiiinda what it's doing right now!

  • what are those slaves digging in the caves then?

  • Best, cliffhanger ever. I loved the Daleks in this one too, the white look made them look all modern and kick ass

  • this is one of my favourite cliffhangers ever!

  • How could the Doctor not realise that the Operator was another Dalek? Never-the-less, this was still a GREAT cliff-hanger!

  • Well the daleks used to enslave other life forms such as the Slither (Dalek invasion of earth in 1964) and the ogrons (Day of the daleks in 1972 and frontier in space in 1973) and some Thals in Destiny of the Daleks in 1979.

  • I can see your point, but surely the Doctor would realise that the Operator being another Dalek was a possibility!

  • At least the original series had better stories and cliffhangers.

  • erm . . . no it didn't.

  • Oh yes it did! The new series is weak with the cliffhanger at the beginning of the story, compared to at least a couple of good ones during the four part stories of the original series. There were only a couple of two or three part stories where they actually had decent cliffhangers in the new series such as at the end of The Empty Child and Utopia. Anyway it's all a matter of opinion, but I'll still favour the classic series over the new series anyday!

  • sorry, i mis-read what you wrote. Yes, the classic series does have better cliffhangers

  • I liked the cliffhanger in Bad Wolf.....

  • erm ...yes it did

  • I believe this was the first film where Dalek's had a float ability. Stairs always stopped them when Tom Baker & Peter Davison played the Doctor.

  • They didn't stop them but due to budget restrictions, they didn't actually show them floating.

  • If I can get it to come up I'll watch the next bit of this moving picture, I believe after Ace wakes up, just in time to save McCoy, he say's something to the effect, Davro's has been busy, levitations a new trick. It's been a while since MPT showed this ep, so I may be wrong.

  • you are wrong . . .

Ace wakes up, headbutts the headmaster, unlocks the door, the Doctor falls out, looks at the headmaster, asks "what's wrong with him?", Ace replies "stomach ache" the Doctor retorts "school dinners". he gets up, sees a hypnotising circuit behind the head's ear and runs out of the school with ace.

  • How do I get the rest of this movie to play? Is it on You Tube at all?

  • it was but the snouts in suits at the BBC told YouTube to remove because of copyright infringement

  • They made'em take down a fan video about The Time War, I really liked too, for the same reason.

    Sucks ehh.

  • Maybe the Youtube user took that down himself.

Or maybe his account was deleted because of another copyrighted video that he uploaded.

  • I thought somebody said it had something to do with copyright infringement.

  • actualy, a dalek was implied to have hovered all the way back in a 1st doctor serial named "the chase", and in the serials "planet of the daleks" and "revelation of the daleks" they were actualy seen hovering above the ground. this is just the first one to show them hovering up stairs. EL-E-VATE

  • yes, but the imagination is far better in this adventure than any of the adventures of the new series!

  • I agree with that completely, although the old series had cheap effects the story, dialogue and imagination was better!

  • classic scene

  • Another perfectly good pair of underpants...RUINED!

  • How could someone claim this scene does not exist? It's one of, if not THE, most memorable scenes in all of old Doctor Who?

  • I don't understand either. He claimed there were no times before the new series when the Daleks flew or hovered. I'm at a loss as to how anyone can be so ignorant.

  • And what's even worse is that this isn't the first time. Hovering Daleks were first seen in "Revelations of the Daleks" (or is it Resurrection? I forgot) and hinted at as far back as "The Chase".

  • You're absolutely right. It's not the first time, but it's certainly the most obvious. Apparently this guy just missed it all. Kind of sad, really...

  • oops sorry i hadnt read tis bit yet so iv just repeated what u said!

  • Umm We never actually see (well I've never seen) them hover before this episode. People keep sayng that they did in Revalation of the Daleks but I watched the entire thing yesterday and still didn't see any. Could you say witch scene it was? -Did see Davros sort of hover though-

  • It wasn't so much seen as implied.

  • Yeah, in Revelation, it was implied when Natasha and Grigory are down in some lab trying to blow things up and a Dalek attacks them and we see the Dalek POV from a high angle.

  • It's revelations of the daleks - the 6th doctor story

Resurrection is the 5th doctor story.

  • especialy since this wasnt even the first time! the do the same in revelation of the daleks! tho its not so clear!

  • Bet that scared the kids. 'oh the Doctor's safe.... ARRGHHH' XD

  • 'I bet that Dalek cant get the Doctor now......oh crap!' ~runs behind sofa~

not my words......kids who watched this episode of Doctor Whos words...
