do you really need whit vinegar? or can you use regular vinegar? or is it the same? oh and you know if you but a hard boiled egg in a cup of vinegar for like 2 days then the egg will become bouncy!
So what is the difference between this and your sesame chicken sauce? I tried the sesame chicken sauce it was a bit to sweet so i added a little chile and it was perfect.
@EyeTube1989 The only difference is there is added soy sauce and seasame seeds in the sesame chicken. The added chile is a great idea - thank you for writing and trying my recipes - I appreciate it :)
Might I suggest you tell the amounts of each ingredients? I have been looking for this recipe for ages! Thank you so much for creating this video. I can't wait to try it!
Ha I have a question do I have to use it in stir fry or can I just pour it directly on to the meat after it's done or do I have to do it while it's cooking please help
Iv actually accidentally made this sauce not realizing it was sweet and sour sauce i slow cook my meatballs in it , in a crockpot but i add another secret ingrediant i cant tell..lol
I am going to try this sauce and replace the BBQ sauce for your BBQ tofu recipe, which I loved, and see how it tastes...Sweet and sour tofu, that sounds good... :)
@AsianCookingmadeEasy Well I made it today. I stirred fried some cubed onion, bell peppers and pineapple chunks, then added the tufu-already done (I made it exactly like your BBQ tofu recipe intead I added your sweet and sour sauce to the egg),
@AsianCookingmadeEasy then I added the sweet and sour sauce and a thickener like the one shown in other recipes instead I added some of the pineapple juice to mix. Stirred a little and done. Served with steamed rice w/a little chili sauce on top. I made stwice the amount of S&S sauce. :) Thanks for the great recipes, never thought I could make S&S sauce.
I made a variation of this sauce for my sweet and sour pork recipe. Check it out in HD 720p. After I deep fried the pork I added this boiling sauce to a hot wok and combined it with the fried pork. Yummy!
today I was short of sweet and sour and wasnt up to makin more so I prepared the chickin in a pan with a mixture of ketchup and jelly. Mix to taste. This same mixture we use in a crockpot with mini weenies.
@socratesthecabdriver I'm make mine closer to the Chinese old school way I think. I was just checking to see how others made it. I make mine with pineapple juice instead of all that sugar in other recipes. Also vinegar, corn starch, water and if you want color to it you can add maraschino cherry juice. I usually just keep it the color of the pineapple juice tho. Super yummy and simple.
@socratesthecabdriver All the restaurants in america uses ketchup. It's mainly used for color and for the extra sourness but the main flavor comes from the sweetness of the sugar and the sourness from the vinegar. Some restaurants also add food coloring for the redness. Sweet and sour sauce as we know it is actually a dish that was created in America by Chinese American chefs. I know tomato sauce is sometime used in Chinese and other Asian cooking, so tomato sauce would be my guess.
I worked at an Asian Restaurant for many years during college and I remember watching them make this sauce. They used the ingredients you used but they also boiled oranges and lemons with the skin on during part of the process.
@Wivanunu I have never seen this dish before. Do you know what the name of the dish is called? And is this chinese food or different type of asian food?
Actually, the restaurant I worked at was very nice....but it always seemed like the food was Americanized. Before or after the restaurant would open, the cooks (who didn't speak english) made food for themselves and it was nothing that was on the menu. All their recipes were written in a different language....maybe Chinese.....I'm not sure. This sauce was used for many dishes though.
Thank you thank you thank you so much for this recipe XD
i am making home made eggrolls for the first time today, and they just wouldn't be complete without this sauce

I used more ketchup and vinegar; than, sugar and honey. T_T

I used a little too much vinegar, than I tried to balance it out with more ketchup and sugar. Mind you this was before I found my measuring cups! ^_^
The ketchup I used is Hines, but it's a lot more darker than your ketchup.
Is there any way to "save" my sweet and sour sauce?

Do you mean chili sauce or chiri-zu sauce? This recipe isn't either of these, it's just a version of sweet and sour sauce :)

can I use rice vinegar instead?
gosox773 2 years ago
Rice vinegar has less acidity than white winegar. The flavor would be a lot less tangy and it may seem like it's missing something :)
