I keep finding mushrooms on cow dung in alabama that look exactly like cubes but they don't bruise blue...I usually search in the afternoon though...is it possible that they are cubes? just dried up? No longer bruising blue or even carrying psychedelic effects?
@420andsuch There are even some mushrooms that bruise blue with oxidation but doesn't content any trace of psilocybin so don't pick them up if you are not 100% sure what they are.
LOL ! Amanita phalloides is a VERY good mushroom. It tastes like chicken:). Of course it is toxic, but you just have to cook it very good. The cyclic peptides will decompose ! Just keep adding water and boil for about 1-2 hours. You won't regret it ;)
Thank you so much for this! In '94 I went to 1st World Peace Gathering at sacred Mountain in AZ. & these were eaten by one guy mistakenly! I searched for antidote cure - & milk thistle extract was specified & had been sold at trading center. Helicopter came, people formed prayer circle, I was crying as they took off! Searching with others 1000's had come up, with 100's of children playing. We filled 100 big sacks. MASH center said I was nuts! He died of course, 2 weeks later. Thanks again.
Magic mushrooms are the most spiritually beneficial experience I have had. I am also a huge fan of Christopher Hitchens and Sam Harris. Don't speak poorly about hallucinogens unless you have had experience with them. Religion is a product of a chauvinistic power-corrupted man who had a loud voice (I am a male, and am not speaking poorly about men in general).
@Shadizar666 if you are simply relying on a book, you are endangering yourself. Identification can be very difficult. It is quite possible for two mushrooms that look completely different to be the same mushrooms, while poisonous ones can look like edible. Eating is the real test.
so what is the point of that talk (kinda hard to understand from this short clip. Is she saying FDA approvle should be faster/differant? Or, is this a talk about how nature can be both good and bad? (one planet can kill, another can save your life).
Even as a budding (pun intended) hobby-mycologist who's used to taking spore prints, I'd NEVER eat some strange ass mushroom even if I thought I successfully identified it... wtf people? wtf...
Milkthisle has been known to be a liver protection for ages, been used in folk medicine for hundred of years..Why does the FDA need to approve something which is found naturally in a common weed and been taking by millions of people without ill effects? I guess they are waiting for the patents.
Seriously though, that's not how Science works. You test something... thoroughly.... till you understand it. Then you come to a conclusion. Mix in copious amounts of bureaucracy into your Science, then you have the FDA.
lol milk thistle doesnt need to be shipped by germany...
The states just can't repair their healthcare system, because any highschool kid with a basic chemistry set can probably extract that from a weed that likely grows in a backyard in the neighbourhood.
@ateopuertorico I hate people that think this way. Mushrooms are good, some plants can kill you too, but it's stupid to avoid all plants because of it.
Only Poland and probably the Czech Republic have a population of mushroom gatheres. It's a common hobby to gather them and recognise the healthy and the deadly ones. This is something even children know in my country. :)
In Austria and Italy (and France too, if I'm not mistaken) there are so many gatherers that you need a special permission to gather them by the local authorities and you cannot gather more than 1 kg at a time. Police stops cars out of the woods to search for mushrooms !
I don't get the part where she says its not legal (silimarin) in the us. I buy milk thistle (somethimes unde the name silimarin) from Twin Labs and Now Foods in Europe. I think I've seen them for sale at Amazon.
I don't get it. Is it the dosage or something, because here (Portugal) Silimarin is legal and cases have appended with people dying or needing liver transplant.
@menc73 If you get poisoned by Amanita Phalloides you need the solution for injection, not the usual mi thistle extract (this is good for your liver but not enough for giving you a chance against the amanita). For Amanita poisoning you need INTRAVENOUS infusions of LEGALON SIL. See google.
@menc73 I believe the issue is not that the milkthistle extract is illegal. It's that it hasn't been approved by the FDA for use in medical treatments. So a doctor who wants to use the this treatment would have to get an exemption from the FDA or risk losing their medical license. It's silly in this instance, but the point is to keep untested products from being used by the public.
Right, and the fact that it is silly in this instance is what lead the FDA to approve an exemption so they could get the only thing which could probably save these patients lives short of surgery. And the FDA was wise enough to approve the exemptions.
@CharBroiled04 I'd actually argue that the FDA is just generally being silly with respect to this treatment. If it the exemption was a good idea here, then it would stand to reason that it ought to be available for each time someone ingests Amanita Phalloides. But the FDA process is what one would expect from a government organization that has been captured by the very industries it is supposed to be regulating. Oh well.
I think you're assuming too much of my position. I think it was good in THIS instance for the FDA to allow an exemption, and that is something to commend them for. That doesn't mean I think the FDA itself is just getting in the way, etc. I think the FDA is a good thing overall, and nothing is systemically wrong with that type of organization. There's definitely some room for improvement, but I'm not so pesimistic about them.
@CharBroiled04 Didn't mean to put words in your mouth. Apologies if that's how I came across. As far as the FDA getting in the way... well, yes and no. In many instances they SHOULD be getting in the way. It's pretty much their job to get in the way of bad products. What I'm saying is that the FDA will, some times, get in the way of good products for purely political reasons. Sometimes against the advice of their own scientists. They are mostly good if sometimes incredibly corrupt though.
@menc73 "I don't get the part where she says its not legal (silimarin) in the us. I buy milk thistle (somethimes unde the name silimarin) from Twin Labs and Now Foods in Europe. I think I've seen them for sale at Amazon"
Most safe, natural remedies are illegal in the US. Those damn plants cut into the health industry's profits.
She didn't say illegal, she said not approved by the FDA. That does not mean illegal. That means not medically approved for said treatment in the US. Big difference.
@OGdank13 Some people get confused with the Russula Virescens as well. I love the Russula VIrescens. I prefer it to the boletus edulis. However you need to know it well, especially if you gather very young mushorooms.
@OGdank13 I'd like to prove them. I'd like the idea the experience of losing my identity and becoming one with the universe. However I'm fearful of bad trips. I had depression and I've read if you're not in great mood you could have bad trips like with LSD. Is it right ?
@Durchbrechen When inducing hallucinations, by any of the means available to do so, it is imperative to have a positive immediate environment, and great people to see you through it, who are normally sane, kind, and rational. If one does not heed these basic guidelines, one risks becoming a religious nutter. Our species needs no more religious nutters. You have been advised.
@DonQuixotedeKaw Yeah, that's the reason I have no't tried them yet. And I am afraid that a bad trip with hallucinogens is even worse than becoming a religious nutter (I think they are more successfully created through children's education rather than drugs).
@Durchbrechen Its all about set and setting your supposed to do 3-5 dry grams in silent darkness lying on a bed or a couch. But I dont really think you can have a bad trip if your informed about whats going on in the world and where we are headed.

people picking mushrooms should know what the hell they're picking
isn't there a pocket book on the things, with pictures???
I mean come on, when was the last time someone had fresh picked poison oak tea? or poisonous frog legs??
hell, most people can tell the difference between carrots and horseradish
is it so hard to pick up mushroom book for double checkin???

FDA delays almost killed these patients.
FDA delays in other areas kill more people than are saved by the FDA's efforts to ensure drug safety.
The FDA literally kills more people than it saves.
And it does so at a cost to consumers and taxpayers of over $3Billion each year.
It is time to make FDA approval optional, and let patients and doctors decide if they want to take a non-approved drug.
After all, who owns your own body, you or the govt?
The FDA is just another part of the failed drug war.
