I absolutely adore "the Bitter Earth". The differences between the characters in terms of the amount of floor work, technicality, sharpness, strength and technique is perfect. The characters are spot on and overall, the concept was genius. I feel It is such a moving piece that out of all three dances it can appeal on an emotional level to "regular" people even if they have no understanding of dance, or at least it has to all the people I know (of which not many have any dance experience).
was lauren injured for this results show, or why wasn't she the one who danced it? i know she danced it in the tour, but i'm just wondering why she didn't on results night. she's great. they're both great; i don't see any real purpose in comparing the two.
@Courtney3809 They didn't exactly say what the injury was, but Lauren didn't dance in Alice in Mia-Land during the results show because of some type of injury. I also think Lauren and Allison are both great, I'm just glad we got to see Allison perform the piece because she's so fantastic in it! It was really a shame Lauren had gotten injured though, glad it wasn't serious.
@SweetPea3189 In the Ovation (rebroadcasts) Lauren mentioned during one of the interview segments about having suffered from dehydration that week. If memory serves me, she didn't even make the Wednesday evening curtain call.
@thetroyhaywood That's actually not true. Lauren was supposed to dance in the Alice in Mia-Land piece but was injured. If you watch closely, you'll see Kent, Robert, Jose, and others from the seventh season in there.
@koolkat104 I agree. I think it's a really beautiful number, but at times it's too scattered. I don't think it has the broad appeal that a piece like Mia in Wonderland does.
Why Mia isn't doing Broadway/Cirque de Soleil/... musicals???? wonderful talent for design, being different and having a deeper meaning..."This Bitter Earth" is my favorite too, showing superb and clean dancing making us except something we normally don't want to!!!
She won :O saw it coming. Didn't really want her to win but I knew she would. And I completely agree about Allison replacing Lauren. I feel like she brought something to the dance that Lauren couldn't (looking at her tour performances of the dance). Allison is one of my top dancers from the show ever since her season and Lauren has managed to land herself up there as well :) Love all around.
I cried at "This Bitter Earth". It's an amazing piece of choreography, especially from a dancer's perspective. I actually prefer it to "Alice in Mia-land".
This Bitter Earth and Alice in Mia-land are outstanding. With Mia's cred with previous Emmy wins she could easily walk away with it. I still want Travis to win but I've changed my mind it's definitely between Mia and Travis NappyTabs pieces are wonderful but they're third in my book now.
It's also a shame you have to diss Lauren Froderman, who is a great dancer and performed the Alice number as well as Allison while on the SYTYCD tour. To bad you are negative on her and the This Bitter Earth number.
@QrockQueen I don't dislike This Bitter Earth at all. I think it's a great number, very moving, but as I mentioned in the description, I don't think it has the ability to appeal to a broad audience. I think you're taking what I said about Allison and Lauren the wrong way. Lauren is actually one of my top favorite dancers the show has ever featured. I just think that Allison brings something so breathtaking to the piece, and it would have never been seen had Lauren been able to perform.
@QrockQueen The only reason they replaced Lauren with Allison was because Lauren got injured ( her rib i think) So she couldnt dance so they called allison in.. and then on tour she got to perform it because she was heald
This Bitter Earth is a beautiful dance. To me it's as wonderful as the Alice in Wonderland number. It's shame most people can't see the beauty in it, because it's a breathtaking piece of work that remains underrated.

I thoroughly enjoyed This Bitter Earth....and I have no technical "background knowledge" of dance.
I felt like I was watching an arts installation, or a mime in a traveling carnival; it had such an Ameliesque quality to it.

@binsweetie89 Glad you enjoyed that piece. It is very pretty. Hope I didn't offend with my "background knowledge" comment.

@Courtney3809 Those were the All-Stars of the season. Lauren was never meant to be Alice.

This Bitter Earth, to me, has too much going on at once. I like the dance, but there is just too much to look at in some parts.
