  • Long takeoff run!

  • @Flamorgan The DC-10 didn't kill the Concorde, 9/11, 25 years of service, high fuel costs, AND net loss on airlines operting her cause her retirement.

  • @wowdude999 No it was the crash, because British Airways operated them profitably, the design was built to last and the aircraft had years and years left in them. The crash gave the impression that they were unsafe (lies) and the cost of updating them to prevent damage like that caused by the metal strip made them uneconomical. So the DC-10 is mostly to blame for Concorde's loss.

  • @sthill1993 Like I said....Rising fuel costs and 9/11 made her retire...BA/AF were starting to lose money in 1998. Sure the concorde crash was before 9/11, but their were signs of retirement before the crash.

  • @wowdude999 Concorde may not be profitable in terms of money, but in terms of pride, spirit and soul, she is priceless! Shame that we don't have those values anymore :(

  • It's a good thing that damn bird at 0:42 did not get sucked into one of those engines.

  • @jesse0576 Oh yeah of course they would have good service back in the 80s and 90s when most airlines had good service. I was talking about +2000.

  • Like a BOSS!

  • (sigh) Northwest Airlines the airline that got fucked up by Delta!!!!

  • @ghettoperson257 Wtf? Northwest airline was a shitty airline. It was a good thing Delta merged with them. Now all planes have PTVS which no NWA plane had (which is sad) And NWA used old shitty planes like this one and the 747-200. Shitty airline and the list goes on.

  • thats some sheer power

  • In 1990, I flew on a DC10 from Detroit to Amsterdam. They overbooked coach and I got a free bump to first class! We just leveled off at about 34,000 ft and I ask the attendant if she would ask the captain if I could see the flight deck. I did not expect he would agree, but 10 minutes later, she came back and took me up front. I sat in the observer chair all the way to the gate! The engineer put a set of headphones on my head. I remember every detail to this day. Those days are gone for good.

  • WOW. That plane is fucking heavy...

  • just wish this plane didn't have such a bad past

  • correction one of my favorite, after the DC3 and the DC4

  • My favorite Douglas airplane

  • Miss my DC10s and I miss my airline. Minneapolis hasn't been the same ...

  • @Wizzardgirl Feels that way in Detroit also, and I never even got to fly in a DC-10 :(

  • i flew with one allmost 10 years ago, since my flight home from detroit was cancelled due to bad weather in amsterdam it was in the red and grey colours

  • rip nwa

  • Why was NWA so quick to get rid of the DC-10s??

  • @andrewhurricane QUICK?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! are you kidding?

  • @andrewhurricane Actually, Northwest Airlines was firm in their commitment to McDonnell-Douglas and their entire fleet of DC-10 series aircraft, as they were operated regularly until reaching retirement in the year 2007. They were the last major US airline to operate them, behind ATA Airlines, which unfortunately ceased operations in 2008 due to bankruptcy.

  • embarassing that a western airline still operated a dc-10 in 2005.

  • @ruthiehensh Why? The 747 still flies as well, and was first built around the same time.

  • @ruthiehensh why it worked perfectly

  • @ruthiehensh Vote down ;)

  • @ruthiehensh The moment you said "Western", I knew you couldn't be an American! Why do pussy countries under the American thumb try to pathetically salvage their pride by calling themselves "Western" and thus, somehow, part of American global power.

You better get off your "Western" high horse real soon, or the "West" will have a lot more to be embarrassed about.

  • @ruthiehensh It most certainly is not. Better than that Eastern crap that they say flies. Now THATS embarassing. The DC-10 was one of the best planes to ever grace the sky. And, sir, they operated the DC-10 until 2007, for your information.

  • @SaabChrysler52 By "Eastern crap" I mean lousy-built, crap. Not all Eastern aircraft are crap, and this one (DC-10), Western-built, is superior.

  • Just look at those HUUUUUGGGE STABILIZERS!

  • So many birds around that plane when it was taking off. Where was the bird control? So dangerous! Have they not learned anything after the US Airways birdstrike/hudson river incidient?

  • @MrMotokid777 Your math sucks. The death toll of all DC10 accidents combined is still well below that of the mighty 747, which I love too....

  • An aircraft with balls!

  • DC 10 <3

  • and they said it was quiet

  • Lol, I like how this video has more than three times as many views as the A330 video :p

  • Northwest is operated by Delta

  • One thing i know about the DC-10,MD-11 and the L-1011 is those planes really got moving at throttle up for take off.

  • i liked it but now i hate dc 10 coz it murdered the blest plane ever : CONCORDE

  • Northwest Airlines doesnt exist anymore

  • @itspeaks037 naw durr

  • @itspeaks037 thank you captain obvious

  • there are still few flown by UPS and FEDEX as cargo planes ,I think ...out of Indianapolis and Louisville,KY

  • beatiful airplane my favorit i like

  • IT SEEMS LIKE IT WOULD BREAK OFF AT THE TAIL!!!!

  • I WOULD NEVER TRUST A TURBINE ENGINE ON THE TAIL LIKE THAT,LOOKS KIND OF FLIMSY!!!!!!

  • that was a super long rotation

  • Another death cruiser takes to the skies!

  • I think Northwest should have bought MD-11;s since they kept their DC -10's untill 2005!!!

  • 0:40 bird almost got z0ned

  • I LOVE YOU DC-10!

  • the MD-11 was 18' longer and larger overall, instead of GE's CF6-50 (51,000lb thrust) they used CF6-60C2 (747 engines) ( 61,200lb thrust). Basically the MD-11 was the larger version.

  • Nice Video! Love that sound! I just did some work at Dulles airport in DC and I got to drive right behind a fedex dc-10 every morning when I was escourted onto the tarmac. And saw him taxiiing for takeoff a few times. Very cool experience! Glad to see these old birds still flying every day!

  • I miss Northwest Airlines. It was my favorite Airlines.

  • where's the NWA now ??

  • @astoniz they merged with delta

  • @Beast6060 Thanks ,, I miss NWA :)

  • @astoniz Merged with delta........

  • that's THE trijet... btw, the old northwest airlines livery was much more beautiful...

  • Goodbye and good riddance, death trap

  • @gloomyoutlook Death trap? Most accidents were caused by incorrect maintenance, pilot error etc. Since the cargo door problem was solved, the DC-10 has proved a reliable aircraft.

  • aw how wonderful to see death can 10 and no where airlines in one vid

  • Bye bye birdie. lol :)

  • I like the doors of the DC-10 and how its mechanism, I think its quite classy

  • a bird almost went into the top engine xd

  • pretty fucking remarkable

  • nice love that plane

  • even better the dc-10 well be flying till 2020

  • nwa airplane???.......is Ice Cube in there??

  • That is beautiful. Listen to that tri-jet! Those engines just spell out "POWER" when roaring away. Nice video.

  • RIP cd10 we love you

  • @mani1234567898520 actually its dc not cd

  • @kawasaki2948 oh sorry... of course i didn't know that :p

  • @mani1234567898520 whats a cd10...? :P

  • @mani1234567898520 it's called DC-10, not cd 10

  • @mani1234567898520 What you mean?

  • Nice video! Got to love the DC-10!!!

  • congratulations.... great video

  • 777-300ER and the A380 are much more powerful

  • i love this plane it so powerful

  • at miramar they had a static display, it is HUGE !!

you wont believe how big they are.they are enourmous, maybe im exageratiing.

  • @snooppupc130jrketmas You really can't get a feel for how big airliners like this really are until you stand under or near one.

  • I touched the landing gear, i went around under and next to this plane, actually the KC-10 Extender, but same difference. i did the same with KC-135 and C-5. for the c-5 i went in the cabin, cockpit abd everywhere.

  • @snooppupc130jrketmas THATS WHAT SHE SAID!!!

  • The wind is blowing too much that day

  • what date was this? how many carriers still use the DC10

  • Altitude, temperature, and wind direction are also factors. The older jetliners such as DC8s operating from high altitude airfields had take off rolls over a minute...

  • A heavily loaded plane (lots of fuel) will have a takeoff roll of 30-40 seconds. Planes that are lighter due to less fuel (shorter flight distances) will be in the mid 20s.

  • Echt schade das es Northwest nicht mehr gibt :(

  • Well nothing I reckon. I'm assuming your comment is a backhanded one...

  • My favorite airliner of all-time. I miss it very much.

  • LISTEN TO THAT MONSTER GO!

  • he had some difficulties with take off i see.. maybe a little to much loaded. or some fat passengers :D

  • it looks like that plane was very heavy loaded when it took off

  • No the take off was fine.. Some planes actually have to wait that long so they reach V2 "Saftey Spee" before they cant take off...

  • yes, but as you can see it had about 17 degree angle and the back wheels didn't take off so fast as usual. It took several seconds to unglue of the ground. That's why I think it was heavy loaded.

  • sounds like a "real" airoplane, not a hair drier!

  • A windscreen on your microphone would help alot.

  • Regardless of the DC-10's history, it will always be my favorite airliner/cargo aircraft. The sound of the engines is practically trademarked by the DC and it is a remarkable sound at that!

    Long live the tri-jets!

  • DC-10 = Death Cruiser 10

  • so true

  • if you mean Turkish Airlines Flight 981 you've right..

but it's still a beatiful bird

  • There was only one DC 10 crash related to the cargo door. Paris Turkish Airline. One serious AA DC 10 incident over Windsor Ont. Same issue. Aircraft landed safely in Detroit.

  • theres more than just that..

thats why there not seen in the

usa that much any more..unlike the

dc9 or even the md 88 still fly amost

30 years later not sayin they didnt crash

but im just not a big fan of the dc-10

  • What's the difference between a DC 10 and a MD 11?

  • the MD-11 was the predessor to the DC-10. Main differences include the increased fuselage length. Also the MD-11 featured a full 'Glass cockpit' a largely enhanced and more modern cocpit compared to the DC-10. It also does not have a flight engineer making the MD-11 only a 2 person flight deck. There are also other differences such as winglets, changes to the horizontal stablizer etc. There is also an MD-10 which is a DC-10 with a retrofitted glass cockpit.......

  • the reason behind that is it allows a common type rating between companys that operate both the DC-10 and MD-11 such as FedEx

  • never catch me on this flying death trap!!!

  • if the aircraft was that bad they wouldnt have been in passenger service for 3 decades

  • sounds like my toyota corolla

  • Although I cant tell what the tail number on this aircraft is, N244NW was one of my friends ;-) I've ridden on it countless times on my trips to Europe.

  • It was like flying in a cattle car. Everytime it landed in Amsterdam from Mpls it shook so bad and rained on me from the condensation on the ceiling. I quit flying NWA to Amsterdam until they got rid of those things and went to all A330 aircraft.

  • Miss that old beauty :( 5/5

  • Zero?

  • Oh yeah ??? watch the air crash investigation program . This plain had an error in cargo doors .Few of DC 10 crashed because of that , killing people .First please read something about DC10 or watch air crash investigation and then make a comments .

  • "watch the air crash investigation program"

Or read a book about the subject. Cargo doors on DC-10s weren't themselves flawed in any way other than being confusing to operate. The ONE actual crash related to a cargo door, as well as the handful of early close calls were due to the improper operation of the doors by ground handling crews. A subsequent redesign by McDonnell eliminated the likelihood that the doors would be improperly closed. DC-10 cargo doors have operated safely ever since.

  • Elements of the cargo door had an error and the company did know about it but they didn't do anything .That's was this firm doesn't exist any more .Operating was just one of the many reasons .

  • Ready for takeoff, look at the Stab. Trim. Great perspective. Thanks for sharing :).

  • well it wasn't the best I have heard

  • you still get the occasional one at edinburgh airport usually it`s an arabs private plane

  • so are there no more DC-10s in passengers sevice?

  • Killer beautiful !!

  • I see lots of MD-11 but no more DC-10s! I wish i could buy one!

  • @ned987

The production of the DC-10 stopped before the MD-11 was introduced thats why you see more MD-11s.

  • @ned987 try ebay

  • @ned987 -me too.

  • they not that expensive hahah around 100 grand :D

  • @Myggomag Considering that most of the surviving DC-10s are 25-35 years old, a used one would probably sell for $50 million or less

  • @ned987 in march of 2010, i was flying to atlanta on a 757 and our flight was late.when i saw that world airways dc-10-30 fly right past the terminal.thank go for my late flight.

  • @ned987 Yup. I rode DC-10s several times in the 1990s and early 2000s, but after Northwest retired theirs, I only ever see them with FedEx :/

  • 8 years old

  • no thats is dc 10

  • u nitwit its a dc10 a330 have two engines this one has three idiiot

  • Didn't the DC-10 have a habit of making a wonderful crashing sound too?

  • wonderful plane, and i love this livery!

  • Do you mean Lockheed TriStar?

  • I haven't sein Lockheed TriStar since ATA went out of business

  • the thing that won the DC-10 from the Lockeed Trijet, is the third backwheels set

  • But I didn´t say the DC-10 is bad !

My dad was DC-10 Pilot !

  • do you know when nwa ceased operations with the dc-10?

  • If Im not mistaken it was around feb or early spring of 2007..I work for a charter airline that uses some of NWA's old 10's..

    I love'em..nothing sounds like a DC-10

  • yeah youre right, the best airplane in the world. but for which airline do you work then?

  • Wow, what an insanely gorgeous plane!

  • NWA ice cube and dr dre.

  • The MD-11 is better anyway...

Glass cockpits are better ... :-)

  • how are they better?

  • dont diss the dc 10, without that u have no md-11

  • do they plan to shut dc 10 's down or what??i no longer see them around!! i love this plane , it's beautiful and originally designed!

  • That DC10 is loaded, very heavy.. Almost ran out of runway!

  • woah NWA had repainted dc-10's ?

  • Me encanta ese avion!!! muy hermoso!!!

  • cross wind caught him as he took off. :D

  • what a nice aircraft, im sureprized its in the new northwest paint scheme

  • DC-10 the diesel one.

  • My very first time on an airplane I flew on a DC10. The ride was smooth all the way. Amazing machine.

  • Fantastic video dude!

    Real nice Sound to!!

    5*

  • You must have never heard an L-1011, THAT'S the best sound ever!

  • fantastic, just fantastic

  • I miss having these jets rattle my windows growling over Minneapolis several times a day!

  • DC-10 is still the Shit

  • Yep you gotta luv tri-holers. used to love seeing the Martinair and KLM MD11's alongside a bunch of NWA DC-10's at Amsterdam. miss those old birds. it would have been cool if they kept them and Delta kept them in there new colours. that would be the shit!!!! its all memories now

  • Nice post - those NWA -10's were my favorite plane to spot growing up - I'd always know when one was about to fly over my house by the distinctive "deep growl" of the engines. What a great plane - was sad to see them go.

  • very nice plane dont realy like the dc10 but the nwa colours they are nice . look at the wings you can almost see the bend from the wings bursting with jetfuel

  • very beautiful plane but i dont get why they added the extra engine on the tail because it doesnt seem any bigger than like a 757-767 and those are good with 2 engines

  • indeed a beautiful plane. the dc-10 came out many years before the 757 or 767 and was much wider body.

  • Well it had three engines instead of 2. The -10 was good, but I prefer the MD-11.

  • The 3rd engine allowed the plane to travel further distances and more distances over the ocean. Twin engined aircraft have to have something I think called ETOPS clearance to go across some of the oceans. The DC10 could do that. Also seated 230-260, far more than the 757 and 767.

  • i bet that was a jumbo jetliner. i love the sound of a DC-10.
