I don't know if the caretaker is still there, but he was 6 years ago when I last visited. He runs a general store there. He's very friendly, and he'll kinda try to suss out id you're there because you're interested in Manson, or interested in mining history (apparently the two main types of visitors he gets). He'll show you the truck, re-hash the story, point out some mining artifacts in the store. He seemed fairly old when I met him, hope he's still there.
How come someone hasn't taken this since its left abandon for so many years? Although death and murder is a bad thing, Its a piece of history... Odd that someone hasnt nabbed it.
@Ruckasman Bobby isn't getting out ever. And if he did there are probably some folks waiting for him. If anything buy it from the caretaker at Ballarat. He deserves any money for babysitting it for this long.
thats trippy it doesnt seem all that deteriated. what is the name of the ed sanders book. i am not a weirdo . i have just been trippin lately on manson i grew up in reseda and chatsworth. was about 4 years old at the time. my mother used to work for an old lady up on santa susana pass. she would always pick up these hippies that were hitch hiking. and fill up her impala so full . theywould stick me on the dash of the back window where i would lay as she would take them all to the beach.
@TheCrazedhippie Dont you just miss the old days lol. Going up and down topanga cyn. The days when hitching a ride was okay and we all did it to go to the beach or to chatsworth park and hang in the train tunnels. TO THE OLD DAYS!
The truck sits in the ghost town of Ballarat near Death Valley. The caretaker of the ghost town gave me the information and I have read about the truck in various books. You can see a picture of the truck in in Ed Sanders book.
