When he was young he was quite original and hardworking (Shame these shows seldom get shown) but his latter magpie tendencies are just criminal (He even took stuff from himself). Buddy Hacket should have punched him up

You know your stuff and this is all true + Hill hardly ever wrote an original gag: he was just a good mimic. There's also the obvious observation that he got old. This isn't necessarily a bad thing if you're willing to address it (Woody Allen, Frankie Howerd, George Burns, Charlie Chaplin) but Hill is still 67 going on 7. He just looks gross here. All your other comments are highly pwertinent

yeah Hill watched the radio and when he heard a gag he'd written it down and go to the stage,different countries and the few times Hill came up with a gag was most likely inspired from the ideal he got the gag (s) from. when benny was younger and thinner then during his peak he pulled it off in a way that didn't matter acting young but his longevity would never forever disappear

he liked adding to something he'd done or changing gags round and useing gags from another sketch he done, at his best re-hashing it was as good as before or not noticeing and reworking gags but not as good at re-hashing

and a concern that the programme was slipping into uninspired mediocrity, with the repetition factor especially being an issue and thames called him in to a meeting that lasted just 2 mins and told benny in such an offhand manner and the repeat of gags as time went on was due to benny's penchant, running out of steam.

you have to remember that hill was haveing a self-inflicted decline since 1989 when this recording was made in 1991 combined with haveing done a few of these in 1958 when he was 34 instead of 67 and ageing

Hill's health wasn't at it's best since the 80's and the sacking caused him to put on more weight and drinking through hill would've of done that but not to the point it would affected his health that would cause his death.thames reasons for the sacking were raitings going down to from the show's peak of 21 million to 9 million viewers which was classed as not high enough for more shows then (these days in england it's 3 million) costs going for each episode in the end £450,000

I'd never seen this before! Thank you for posting! Wow! Benny Hill never sat on his laurels. Never simply rehashed the same jokes & songs, even when he came to the USA. Sure, of course, songs & bits are bound to be similar, in the same style, but never exactly. He wrote & executed new lyrics & gags to fit where-ever he went.
