Stan Rogers doesn't need the approval of any of the low lifes who make decisions about who does and doesn't belong in Canada's hall of Fame . Stan Rogers is the epitome of what Canada is about -- he is the undisputed Poet Laureate of Canada --Hands down !!!!!
The only issue that I have with some of Garnet's music is that it can incline you to find some razor blades to slit your wrists. He can be depressing. I takes nothing away from his talent. He is not Stan and I believe he prefers it that way.
It is a scandal that the Lilliputians who get to vote on who gets in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame have consistently refused to induct Stan Rogers. What a petty bunch of low-talents they must be.
Stan use to come to my parents home and him and my brother would sing and play the guitar, he was not only a very talented singer songwriter he was an incredible
human being . His wife would also be with him. My brother still has the cassette tapes.
I've listened to this song scores of times, but the parallel just struck, "45 cents will buy another glass of beer" and "45 years." Interesting, I wonder what it means?
This is the whole band with Garnet Rogers on backup vocals and violin. My song with David my soul mate who passed in 2000. He still owes me 38 years! :'(
@djsvmm I first heard this song while working in Nova Scotia, I broke my neck in two places on that job but my boss had the cd and we were really close pals so I often heard it that summer. I haven't heard it since and now two weeks ago i found it on here. I can honestly say that I have not been able to stop playing it since. God what a loss. RIP Mr Rogers. :)
@islandguy911 There is SO much that Stan could have given the world in the way of music. Have you ever listened to his brother Garnet? Really really good performer. Garnet picked up where Stan left off and then came into his own. Good stuff. Stan's son Nathan is also a performer and amazing!!
Actually this has the whole band which included Garnet Rogers on back up vocals and violin. This was my song with my soul mate who passed away in 2000. He still owes me 38 years :'(
That's a nice dedication to his wife...it might make up for all those referential beers. Hope he took her out for a spot of tea or Coke. Cordially, John
You are such a heretic, John, I love it. However, if my husband took me out for a coke or a spot of tea I would wonder what he was up to. Works both ways. (excuse the dangled preposition, please!
XXXClaudia ps. When he takes me out for a glass or two of wine, I KNOW what he is up to. Or to what he is up??? Whatever.

To me this is the ultimate love song, honest, imperfect, humble, and filled to the brim with love.

I absolutely love this song; I keep playing it over and over again. It's romantic, but without being all soppy and slushy.

I'm sure he will...
and will "see", for many of us...
bless his heart, as my mom would say, and now it comes more clear..on the slope side of 45.
