It really depends!

AKC breed standard for the maltese breed is 4lb - 7lb. If yu are looking for one, I highly recommend a reputable maltese breeder. Send me a message if you want me to help you find a reputable breeder.

@katkoota I have a pure bred Maltese and his parents were 4 and 6 lbs. My maltese is over a year old and he is over 11 lbs. He's not fat. He's really big compared to all the other malteses. So at least you'll know that my 11 lbs dog will be the biggest so far that I've known.

Yes I am sure he isn't fat :) he is big in size. I am sure that he is ADORABLE and LOVABLE. Someone I know has a 12 lb maltese.

Breed standard for a maltese has a preferred weight. Reputable maltese breeders breed in this weight range; reputable breeders don't only look at the weigh of the parents, but the parents' history, so there is less chances you will get a 10lb maltese full grown from a reputable breeder.

@katkoota One time at Petsupermarket, I ran into a lady that literally had GIANT MALTESES. I mean it was able to stand up in the shopping cart and put its lil paws on the top of edge of the cart. It was the most odd and beautiful thing I have seen. It was giant like a maltese, except it had tall skinny legs (definitely not malnourished, just they have small legs in general, species), and was absolutely adorable. Apparently her family has bred them and has giant malteses. :)

@katkoota I actually recmomend a lot of Rescue Groups and Shelters. They get abandoned purebreeds ALL the time since people keep losing their houses and abandoning pets, elderly pass on and the kids dont want the pets (if they even have kids), and so on...

So just google Maltese Rescue (yourcity/state/region) and you should have a BUNCH pop up. Also you should check your shelter.

@katkoota I live in South Florida so you can even check the pictures and breed online without even having to go - and you'd be saving an adorable puppy's life as they are usually killed in 3 days after being surrendered if not adopted. :(
