I was fortunate enough to meet him at jazz-camp in Denmark 1997 - it was a 8 day-course - and Michael lived, played and shared his wisdom and love for the music every day... He teached, told stories, guided us and jammed beautifuly for every single moment. It was an incredible and wonderful experience for me... And by the way I got to be the one that learnedn him the melody for "Some other blues" - wich he had never chekked out... His wife, Susan + children was there too. Such wonderful people
I would give anything to see him speak or meet him (I would probably start crying if I had gotten a chance to meet him). He was so amazing and he really was willing to give his time and talents to us all. We are so blessed to have had such a wonderful person on this earth.
@honkysaxophone< I agree completely with you about M. Brecker. I never heard anything he ever did that I didn`t like. Brecker was damn close to a Saint in my opinion. Such a talented and humble man, one might think he was a buddist priest or something. I would be happy to be half the sax player he was. He was my favorite since the first time I heard him. RIP Mike
When Mike refers to "ballsless Fusion tripe" he is referring to a band in-joke. This phrase came from an actual review of one of Steve Khan's '70s LPs for Columbia Records. It was a review that covered recordings by 3 guitarists. The full quote was this: "....and Khan certainly fares no better as he was one of the prime architects of the CLINICALLY BALLSLESS FUSION TRIPE of the Brecker Bros. Band." How easy it is for music critics to take pot-shots like that!!! I should know - I'm Steve Khan
1:12…that's what she said.
But seriously, Michael Brecker is the man.
