Could never figure out why this guy ( Norman Schwarzkopf ) never changed his name, I guess he managed to live with the shame.
His father was a disgusting evil bastard that fabricated and manipulated evidence and put an innocent man in the electric chair.
Yeah Norman a name change the minute you came of age would have been the thing to do,,,remove and distance yourself and your loved ones from the shame your family name bears.
But then there is Karma,,hopefully your Dad is burning in Hell !!
if winston churchill had one ounce of the brain power off general schwarzkopf then then we in the uk would have kicked Hitler's arse from Berlin to hell far quicker
This is great, thanks for the upload. The Major standing behind the Que Cards is my father. He was General Schwarzkopf's Aide-de-camp during the war. He'll get a kick out of this when I email him the link.
Wow. People who are discrediting this man because the US has technological and strategic superiority have no clue to how command works. You think any joe schmo or two bit general can possess the understanding and knowledge to implement all these capabilities like a go fish game? Get your head out of your ass. In WW2, the Russians had overall better equipment and numbers than the Germans, but the experience and the capabilities of the Germans was what allowed them to prevail in the beginning.
@v13r3r that's not true. the russians had practically no advantages (except, of course, for manpower). read about stalingrad, the russian army provided arms for less than half of its own soldiers during the early part of the siege. the russian officers even had standing orders to shoot their own men if those men tried to retreat from assaults on fortified german positions. The germans were famed for their outstandingly efficient military industries. And for their wealth. The russians starved:(
@whatubeaccount1 Yes and no. Go back to your books and look at the stuff before the purges and interwar years. By equipment I don't mean equipped. Go beyond your high school textbooks and Discovery/History channel infotainment sources. Look into these topics: Logistics, Combined Arms, infantry tactics post 1918, mechanical engineering, air superiority & interdiction, quality vs quantity militaries & then take all that and apply it to the Russian Front in it's entirety. Happy reading.
@v13r3r the russians did not have overall better equipement. what are you talking about? the red army's only advantage was its numbers and strengths, and the russian winter. the nazis had better weapons, but not as many men.
well if it comes to good ratinonal planing you NEED a german guy like norman... those germans who came after ww2 and ww1 MADE this country big and the children of them are now in our best jobs politic, army, music , hollywood... even colored tv was invented by germans.
@Cjl99 Yeah, it ruined my whole evening, let me tell you! Who the hell would find a war briefing by a decorated Army general like Norman Schwarzkopf interesting when one can watch the great Rick Dees of "Disco Duck" fame interview the likes of Nancy Allen or Eva Gabor? I felt crushed that night, believe me.
I served in the 1st Cavalry Division during this time. I remember that GEN Schwarzkof was being nominated for a 5th Star according to a radio report yet it did not happen. Powell was rumored to get a 5th star as well. Stormin' Norman earned it in my humble opinion. Powell???? the media dubbed him the Black Eisenhower. I briefed Powell- He was no Ike. More like a Perfumed Price. LTG Andy Chambers should have gotten a 4th Star- not Colin. LTG Chambers was the finest Combat Cdr I served with.
this was more like stalingrad all over again. cutting through enemy held territory to besiege the enemy forces from all directions. Poor military strategy from Saddam's part.
General Norm Swartzkopf, my general, my friend! He was my boss, my friend; a real soldier with a vision. He knew Baghdad and Persia. He was un-cowed by anyone! 73 Easting! Beat them when out numbered, and beat them under strength! Take the fight to the battle!
This is a truly brilliant military briefing. General Schwarzkopf was a genius. If he had run things during Gulf War 2 (Operation Iraqi Freedom), we wouldn't have had the mess we ended up having from 2003 until now. General Schwarzkopf, you were awesome!!!
Thanks for uploading. I remember watching some of these briefings back then. I wish I had taped these and have my own copies. Gen Schwarzkopf will definitely be remembered a long time, especially at West Point.
i am kuwaitie and i remember this war when i was 5 it sounded like fire works! the best thing about it was everything was free in the toy store next to my house !

he makes it look like this third world army of iraq was a real threat for modern american forces. the combat value of the americans compared to iraqies is something like 20 to 1. how many americans were killed in the iraqwar back then? not even 500 or so compared to some 200.000 iraqies
ONE armed enemy is a real threat to a US soldier. We consider every member of our Armed Forces a brother, a sister, a daughter, a son...they are our family... precious souls.
"You ever been in a minefield son?" (Schwarzkoff)
"uh, no..." (disrespectful hippie reporter)
"Well let me tell you... ONE mine in a minefield is dangerous." (Schwarzkoff)
I believe that's in part4 of this briefing, a Q&A.
Hell, the plan was to "left hook", when the Saudi and combined forces had to take the main defensive lines, the ones Sadam was fooled to defend. We pierced through them along with troops from Eygpt, Syria, Qatar and handful of US marines, all in a record time.
In A record time! dude, the one who listens to u thinks, arab forces were the ones who defeated the iraqis! The left hook was an amazing plan, but it wasnt saudi i am afraid! It was 100% American and british. saudi would have fallen in 2 days, if it wasnt for the americans. cheers
I didnt say US and UK didnt have a role in the war. We'd be defeated if Sadam Hussain attacks, which is why we called in foreign countries to defend. What Saudi's insured is this:
A)Solid supply and supply lines to all forces.
B) Saudi doesnt become a 2nd Vietnam. It had the right to kick any country no questions asked, This was somewhat a war itself, symbolically speaking.
The campaign was 100% US with UK making minor adjustments. what Im saying is Saudi's important role is often neglected.
I agree with you Mate, although I come from Jordan originally and stood on the side , but saddam had no reason to invade Kuawit. The US wanted the Oil, and Saudi and K8 still paying the Bills
tell that to my Kuwaiti translator...brother hidden by women, five cousins tortured by Iraq forces, one female cousin tortured to death because she would not talk...that's not for oil, not why we went, ask my old unit after we got our translator...we did it for his family.
His left hook was taken from Alexander the Great, right? It may also be taken from Sun Tzu. The man is smart if he's in Mensa. Against an enemy about 4 times larger but with terrible equipment, the war on the ground was completed in just over 4 days. :0 Amazing!
if only the CURRENT gulf war were as organized and televised as this. no one knows what is going on in iraq in afghanistan right now, whereas people knew exactly what was happening back then from this kind of footage
Since there has been good news in Iraq, the mainstream media won't report it... if the news is awful or makes our military look bad, the liberals shout it from the network mountaintops.
Our military is "organized", our military does "know what is going on".
By the way, this was a military report... an AFTER action report... not a running news report.
This video rocks, thanks for uploading it, but the war lasted 100 hours (4 days), not 24. The air war went on for 900 hours--the entire Desert Storm lasted 1000 hours.
Gen. Schwarzkopf really put together a beauty of an operation.
IIRC there were more friendly-fire casualties than Iraqi-inflicted coalition deaths.
First Saddam claimed "the mother of all battles." Then reality set in,
and there came what US milpress folk said at the time was "the mother of all briefings."
