Was going through an old box from high school and found a ticket stub for Day on the Green 1983 in Oakland - The Police, the Fixx, Madness, Oingo Boingo, and the Thompson Twins. That was a few lifetimes ago
Oh, dear God ! I've seen Sting here, in Bucharest, last week, on his Symphonicity tour. The man is simply amazing ! For the first couple of hours in my life I didn't care about anything else around me; it was just me with Sting, the wonderful orchestra, Jo Lawry & Dominic Miller ! The perfect set for my soul. Half of my dream was finally coming true.
The other half ? I would give anything to witness the incredible phenomenon of the three of them put together ! Man, Andy and Stewart !
In the video called "Police around the world" (VHS) the version of this song is quite differente... More violent.. If I'm not wrong it was recordede in Paris, and something happened with someone in the publci...Sting seems to be strung on something, he curses in between the words of the song, spits on whoever is the object and actuallu threatens someone in the public.. Maybe some white powder up his non-operated on nose? Angry at something? Straaaange....
@TravellingMan79 : You're right... I remember now.. (can't see the VHS, machine's dead) But he was a little over-reactive... I love him dearly, but he wasn't quite himself... I understand that being spat is disgusting but... he keeps cursing half the song...
Copeland=AWESOME DRUMMER.Sting=Great songwriter and bassist, good singer also. Andy Summers--Classic guitar sound, great guitar voicings. The Police= GREAT Band.
To many cameras and not enough food. This line speaks absolutely clear to me and I bet this is why it was written. Just food for thought. But on the same side of the coin who is the camera pointed at here. ?
Sorry but....I do not care who started the group...... no Sting no Police....That is like RHCP with out Flea aint/wouldn't of ever happened....that being said these are the most amazing 3 guys on the planet!
Andy Summers is one of my favorite guitarist but no kidding, is one of the worst solo player I know, except on records (don't know why!) Listen the solo in the same title on zenyatta mondata. I love the Police.
@elAntxoa1 and Vinnie Colaiuta, Tony Williams, Omar Hakim, Buddy Rich, Joel Taylor, Terry Bozzio, David Weckl and let's not for get Neil Peart and Billy Cobham! lol!
One of my favorite bands of all time. Sting is pure genius. Andy is incredible. Stewart is without a doubt one of the most underrated drummers of all time. Just incredible rhythm that Stewart puts into every tune.
Sad that they can't get along. I saw them all on Spectacle with Elvis Costello and they still talk about the friction between them...
Stewart is just amazing. I always wanted to do this tune in the bands i was in in school but we never had a drummer that was nearly gnarly enough for this.
Stewart is my FAVORITE drummer hands down and this concert seals it!!!!!! I love Neil Peart and Alan White, but shit, this guy transformed from a progressive rock group (Curved Air) to the biggest new wave/ biggest band of the '80's through today. Stewart, YOU ARE GOD.
Most people associate a better drummer with band preference-from a technical perspective much of Dream Theaters music is more complex then Rush's however much of Rush's music has a greater appeal, for example the song Tom Sawyer is playable by any decent drummer but has very musical drumming -not just drumming over the music but adding its own musical contribution (like a guitar).
Mr. Portnoy can easily do either however D.T.'s music seems a bit overkill at times.
Aside from obvious technical skill, saying a drummer is "better" than another is like saying lasagna is better than fried chicken: it's a matter of preference. Keith Moon could not have played like Neil PEERT nor would he want to. It wasn't his style. Terry Bozzio could learn PEERT'S hardest solo in about an hour and improve on it many times over that same day, if that's your cup of tea. I just like Copeland's music better.
You cant compare stewart copeland with the likes of neil peart and lars ulrich, he is completely unique. Id like to see lars ulrich play the polyrythems he can
Steward is one of the best. Neil Peart is up there. Rick Allen is great. Makes you wonder what he could have become with 2 arms, but listen to him on the first 3 Leppard albums. He kicks ass.
i would never disrespect copeland, god knows he's better at playing the drums than i'll ever be at anything i ever attempt but, neil peart he is not !!! that's just a fact. and for all the people who want to suck buddy rich's ass, rich wasn't near peart THIRTY years ago. anf for chinesefoodscrip.. 1. it's pronounced PEERT, i'm so fucking sick of people calling him pert. and 2. He is better then neil pert and knows that drumlines aren't the same things over and over again. that statement tells me
that you are either severly mentally handicapped or you have never listened to rush which in either case makes me feel very sorry for you. peart will be the first to say that rich is the greatest and he'll never be half as good, but if you ask me that is just neil being neil.. modest to a fault. the sad thing is i think neil actually believes that sometimes which if he does it would be one of the EXTREMELY rare cases in which peart was wrong. neil peart is god, end of story. iluffpron.. lars ..
ulrich can play shit your feeble mind can't start to fathom. none of those lames asses mentioned earlier ( phil collins, RICK FUCKING ALLEN?? C'MON !! ) could beat the sweat off the balls of guys like mat cameron, chris adler, raymond hererra, bill bruford, mike portnoy or about a dozen others i could mention. the fact remains however that neil peart has took the art as far as it can go, and if it can go any farther.. it will be peart that does it. also please try to remember it's peert not pert
@stripes154 Stewart Copeland is in my top ten list of drummers although overall Neil Peart is my favorite. Bonham,Moon, Paice, Cozy Powell, Steve Smith, Scott Rockenfield are other great drummers in my list.
Whoa, not so fast. Edge plays in a band whose music doesn't necessarily require "an interesting solo". I've never felt cheated during a U2 track if Edge doesn't step-out for a solo. How many fans of, say, Clapton, can say the same?
Sting was SO much cooler when he was young...The Polce were almost before my time, but I really liked his songs from that time a lot better than anything he does now. I don't think he could ever write songs like this now. Someone needs to remind him of when he was Gordon Sumner and tell him to get his edge back.
Amazing performance from on of the most innovative rock bands of all time. The Police: their sound, musical ability and lyrical depth give them a package nobody can touch. Saw them in June and July, they still have every bit of charisma and dexterity as seen here!
Problem of world hunger and climate change. Prophecy says many will die. Driven to tears and suffering in many form and ways. Law of karma? Sting teacher of philosophy doing yoga and meditating. There is no political solution to our troubled evolution. Man is at a lower level of evolution than man of yesterday. Thanks.

Yeah, you got anything else?
Love Andy Summer's Rickenbacker, Sting's Fender Precision, and I've never seen anybody beat the shit out of their drums like Stewart Copeland.
I thought Ginger Baker was the nuts.
But Stewart Copeland is the nuts. There's never been a drummer like him.
