She's got a great voice for this, and I like the concept and the way she's made it different, but the song was written to have a bit of swing to it, and I feel like she could have done an awesome job if she had just given it a bit of a faster tempo. But then again, the fact that its different makes it stand out.
Jewel's just copying the Ella Fitzgerald recording of the song. (including Ella's slightly different lyrics) There's nothing original on Jewel's part here.
@crixxxxxxxxx thank god someone is passing on this great music down! and just copying ella!!! are you kidding me? you try and just copy ella!! you make it sound like everybody can do that!! can you?? NO! so shut up and listen!!
The point, if you had bothered to read the previous posts before going off, was to clarify that Jewel hadn't created this arrangement as thought -- that it was a cover of Ella's Fitzgerald's version. It had nothing to do with her singing ability vs. Ella's.
Know what the discussion is about before you interject with your indignant comments, please.
Never heard of "Jewel" before - or long-forgotten ? - I think she's great and I can't bother with all the words. She could probably sing itt backwards - sound just as good !
@BG54BG was it at the politically correct Heaven knows Instead of god Knows! And my God Cole porter was right anything goes! My ears it hearts. She butchered it!
HAH! Michael Buble has more talent in his pinky than she does in her entire body!!! That's like the biggest insult to him you could have said! As for her being good or bad I rather enjoy this version, but it's nowhere NEAR as good as Michael Buble!
I love this version! I always forgot how amazing a singer jewel is, she is very under appreciated. I would say only LuPone's version is better. I don't have a problem with the tempo, Jewel is making this song her own. There have been many interpretations of this song, and if she tried to sound like somebody else, people would criticize her for doing that.
I assume she's trying to sing in the style of the original song (1930'ish). Listen to an old version , or better, the Cole Porter version. Sweet stuff. OH, btw, this music has become QUITE popular again due to a little game called Fallout 3. Good stuff, indeed.
I like Jewel, and this isn't bad, but I like the actual version. It's a better song when done fast. Also, the 1960's version of the song has the best lyrics. All in all though, pretty good.
she made a mistake at 1:14 and 1:18. she left out "and goods bad today" and said "wen most guys today" twice. but it was very good! very jazzy and smooth
I love this song! I listened to dozens of version of it on YouTube, and this is one of the best. I've never heard jewel before and was surprised to hear that she can sing (so many pop artists can't). Thanks for posting this.
Jewel is an artist who is constantly surprising me. I had the opportunity to see her in concert, it was just her and her guitar. She did acoustic versions of nearly all of her hit songs, and it was absolutely stunning. She has such stage presence and has a great sense of humor. She didn't have a set list of songs, she was taking requests from the audience!! I have been in love with her since 1999 and continue to be in love with her.
She is good!

Jewel is great but meh, this version is lame. The sound just doesn't sound right at such a slow tempo.

Amazing voice! We just finished a Cole Porter show that included this song as a group scene. It brings back such good memories. :D
