the new slants are going pretty deep...I did just over 4000m on one..intermediate @90 degrees at approx 2500m then horizontal the rest of the way....intermediate can be a bitch but the horizontal section was good!! they new ones are nice but the Rostel drawworks were crap!!
not sure of biggest casing sze...but the rig does run the casing themselves, the topdrive has pretty good torque control....either with x/o nubbins (csg thread to pipe thread) or a Valant tool, which i've yet to see but heard of and apparently they are pretty slick for running pipe...you have to realize these rigs can run csg on a 45 degree angle too....
Usually we do it ourselves on 139. If you look at the floor on any slant there will be a post for a wireline on the floor and at the back of the catwalk for cross over nubins I think 18 3/8 " is the max for our rig but it does depend on the capacity of the rig and the "Stack" or BOP's in the sub structure.
We also use a Vollant tool when we can because it is very fast and we do that without a casing crew as well. It usually does require a vollant hand though. The tool essentially screws into the top drive and has rows of contracting and expanding hardened steel maybe carbide dies that bind to the inside of the casing once it's raised and then releases via rotation by the driller to expand or contract the tool. Small rings are placed on the inside of the casing to protect the threads.
i worked on a similar rig roughin and it was terrible soo boring i work motors on a big super single now with tongs and spinnin chain and it much much better these rigs are for lazy riggers
i was there too, on 118...but i was refering to 106 in this particular comment...you off 118??..i painted the pumphouse on that rig this summer when i was there...much to my dismay!!...mind you it did look HELLA GOOD when it was finished!!
yea im off that rig i was the motorman on day crew, lots of fuckin painting on that hitch lol it did look good in the end though. i was on roomates account for the previous comments by the way, you been working since then at all?
slant riggin on 102 doing 2000m horizontals....going for husky when we're finished the horz. sounds like busy winter ahead...picked up third crew driller and have a crew of conventional hands...pretty interesting shifts with those guys.
I just got back from one of those 4000 meter slants and all I can say is wow. Nice rig!! The boys on Pd 199 take pride in their work. Almost as much as the boys on 139 but hey that's almost impossible to match. Lol!
Tim, why are you letting your gen set heat overheat? :D Just buggin you buddy I realize you're on the floor. Derrick hands eh! Can't live with them and yet they're everywhere. PD's putting out 4000m capacity super singles so you're oklahoma iron may soon see some competition.
damn that is a whole bunch more shit to screw up. what happens when that arm quits on ya? and i know "it has never happened to us", but it will. i got to see what happens when the hydralic hose going to the top drive blows thanks to noram rig 1 i'm glad i was just there. just seems like with a little age these type of rigs will be a nightmare to work on. and two last questions what's up with the disco rig lights and no air hoist?
well...lets see. the arm is hydraulic. so if it "quits" it's either a ram, hose or control...easy. top drives do pile up so we have spares here at pd. sure they are problematic due to the amount of hydraulics but these are pd built rigs (pd & rostel) so they are built very well. i've worked on new and old and they all work the same. each rig has it's ups and downs but generally run really good.the disco rig lights are caused by the genset being above 60Hz causing the lights to flicker on camera.
i guess i see. just a little different than conventional triples and scr triples that i've worked on. which are fairly simple. with the only major hydraulic systems being an iron roughneck and the derrick and sub raising systems. with both having some problems. having a derrick hit the dirt on a sister rig recently from almost 45 degrees from a failed hydraulic system. down time from hydraulics would seem to add up. glad that you have pretty good luck with it. thanks for the info.
i push a conventional single. that was video i shot on my POS camera last year. my rig didn't work much till late summer, early fall. i was working derrick on this rig. i was working lease on an older slant after this one. pretty much the same but not as nice. this rig was 2 yrs old at the time of this vid. i do prefer conventionals. my rig has 2 drive chains, drive shafts & gear boxes. a lot easier to troubleshoot!! check out "riggin on a single" i was on the controls for vid (still drillin").
the rig was completely matted so you didn't touch ground most of the day. and they are pretty easy money except for the leasepuppy when running casing or liner. they tear out fairly nice also. teardown, move, rig up & spud in a shift. i still like the conventional singles...i had fun when i worked the floor on singles and i still have all my fingers (our spinning chain was on a cathead). but for drilling the Supersingles are nice and I actually prefered the rig on a 45* angle...it's different.
238.. The Fossil is on the handle... Skog's is on the Arm and Fisher Price is the pipe doper/numberer I work motors on this rig.. (the dented blue chevy, Bailie)
no glitches what so ever with the hydrolic's... good rig, this is one of the 3 slants in the fleet that has central system.
i see you guys are STILL working. we just finished an 11 hole project. nice work for us (2 1/2 day holes).had a good lost circulation hole w/ gas to surface and flaring. fun stuff. i got an offer to drill on one of the new ones.....decided to keep the push job. ya..thats a nice rig.
That is a good looking rig. They have super Singles alot like that in Arakansas. The ones I have seen are real buggy with all of the finicky hydrolic controls. Does this rig have many bugs?
im from oklahoma and about 8 months ago we went out to clinton ark to work for petrohawk - kcs resources ... and i had never seen a super single untill i went out there ... there kinda cool 2 watch ... u dont see them in western oklahoma bc we were drilling 18000 to 25000 ft dp wells ...
I was wandering if any one heard the where abouts of old pd134, the original pipe arm in southern alberta back in the late 80's, used to be sierra #1. Did they ever retire her
i thought i replied to this. hmmm...well, the ol' girl was racked @ d&d's yard in redcliff last time i seen it....met a few guys who worked on it back in the day...all from medicine hat....looked pretty rough....i'm sure it's retired now.....savana probably bought it!!

does this rigs run casing too? if so whats the bigger casing diameter they run?
also the rigs own top drives make sup the casing or they need an external casin crew to come over n do the job???
