Best case I saw was a huge Amphibous Assault ship (like a smaller version of an Aircraft Carrier)...the upside down image appeared first, then it seemed to float in the air, then saw the actual ship with the image floating above it before the floating image just faded away!
It's an atmosperic phenomenon, a type of mirage called fata morgana. The Wikipedia article actually links to this video. Cool video, by the way! You don't see stuff like this every day.
