I am not sure what the differences are, but how can you guys be arguing when the guy in the video is balancing a forklift(if thats what it is called). Not only is he balancing the thing, but how he got it in that position is crazy.
@bfgtimis achhso des war eine vorrfürhung.. jaa dann xD ich sag ja nur :-P weil der arm verbiegt schnell :-P aber sonst geile sache xDD ist des ien deutscher manitou oder ein franöischer?!
Bfgtimis is 100% right only some of manitous counterbalance trucks like the msi series and there Moffat lorry mounted stuff is hydrostatic the rest are hydronamic. Although I think alot of there new stuff is hydrostatic
This machine has an hydrostatic transmission. Simply watch the engine position. The engine is at the right of the machine, longitudinal way. Only with the hydrostatic drive is possible to put the engine in the preferred way, as in this case on the right, because transmission is done through hyd.pump-hoses-hydr.motor-cardan joint. With the hydrodinamic (converter-gears mechanical transmission) the engine must be absolutely aligned with joint cardan, because these are connected through gears.
Sorry, but this is not true ! I can ensure it is a hydrodynamic drive. I shot the video and I worked at Manitou for 8 years ... So I know what I'm saying.
But to give you more information, the engine is effectively on the side of the machine (and not longitudinal but transversal) and there is a 90 degree bevel gear box, connected on one side to the hydraulic pump for the hydraulic system and on the other side, to a gearbox and then. through cardan shafts, to both axles.
@robby844 : Which website is telling they're all hydrostatic ? It's not the case ! Manitou is using mainly hydrodynamic drives and on some machines, hydrostatic
Well is it hydro drive or what? I thought a lot of them were. Though perhaps its a bit big for it. I am impressed with the driving, though I wouldn't like to be too near it.
@bfgtimis last time I checked there was no such thing as a telehandler without hydrostatic drive, some models like the one seen above have a seperate hydro-drive for the front and rear, while others only have one hydro-drive and a transfer case. If it where actualy direct drive with a clutch, the clutch wouldnt last a month on the average jobsite, and that just wont cut it.
I do not agree with your comment. Hydrostatic drive means that you have a hydraulic pump and a hydraulic motor for the drive system. After, effectevely, all the other ones do not have clutch system but hydrodynamic system with torque converter (like a automatic gear box for a car !)
@pumpkinheadedsob they have converters like auto transmissions, its not a normal clutch at least. when sideloading trucks you revs the engine and maintance the speed with the brake/ "clutch" in same pedal :)
he is actually over loading it and probably doing damage to the boom...he probably doesnt own it other wise he wouldnt be such an idiot...way to many farmers are killed in accidents...dont be part of a statistic...lol
It's the demonstrator from the Manitou factory who made this. He is not damaging the machine as the structure of the boom is largely strong enough to withstand this. The same also for the axmes !
If this weight was even a threat of damaging this vehicle, the manufactures wouldnt have given it enough power to lift it. common sense here buddy. think, why dont cars always break their own axles? because they are built to withstand the power that the machine can put out.
thats some smooth driving, reminds me of when i had to mov a set of rolls on the forkift and I couldn't keep the 4rears on the ground so I had to steer by feathering the clutch and useing the forklifts diff to steer :)
no problem jcb 526 did it for fun with me driving an bucket load of stone try driving a 886 round yard with kidd big bale chopper on, front wheels in air steering on indipedance daily was good
When you do it, you put all the weight of the machine on the front axle only. It overloads slightly the axles but it is not a problem as the axles are strong enough !
that was brilliant but i am only 11 and i have been driving manitous since i was 7 and who ever did that must have been driving for a long long long time
its petty simple with a telescoping loader you just pick up a heacy load the telescope it out till your back end lifts up then with a little practice you can get it to balance
On the paper it is easy. As you say, take a heavy load and telescop. Did you try ? I'm driving telescopics since years and it is much easier to fall as to keep the balance !
yeah i drive them to and it still takes a fair amount of skill to balance but they seem esier to get on too wheels than a conventional loader now keeping it there is a different story
yip, done it in a cat th360, take time to get the balance but once its up there its easy. also try getting all 4 wheels off the deck using the stabilisers and a heavy wieght, should be able to get the machine vertical if you've got the balls, not for long though or you end up starving the engine!

if it retracted the extendable a tad it wouldn't overbalance
which would defeat the while funny of the video

I believe that the word "Manitou" is a Native American Indian word. It sort of means "the balance between nature & life".
It seems now it also means " the balance between machine & grass".
