  • Stranglers I love, I love punk girls, I love punk

  • beautiful

  • they really do not make music like this anymore with all the pre-packed fluff now. The girl with the blonde mohawk and cut in steps looks just like my best friend "S".. lolz.. man I soooo miss my so-called "childhood"... punk died the day hot topic opened it's doors..

  • punk girls still are beautiful

  • The song is just too short. Beautiful sound!

  • mes plus belles annees

  • great song'

  • Birds of Paradise

  • This one was one of my first singles I bought, still feel the same way.

  • I wonder what the Strange Littel Girl is up to now? Probably on the benefit...

  • lol that dude in the hat at the beginning is like.. "shall i help..... nah fuck it". hahahaha i would have been on that chik

  • @MrMudmouth no u so would nt mate back then she would have kicked your fucking head in and enjoyed doing it u obviously was nt around then or u would know that

  • Wish i could have lived through the 80's :( wish i was the same age i am now (18) but back then bring back the 80's ?

  • faourite Stranglers song ,love it

  • ;O good song, good music, very simple very nice ;)

  • punk girls were so beautiful

  • @SmileAtTheMoon yes and much harder to run over

  • @SmileAtTheMoon they still are

  • @SmileAtTheMoon theres still some around :P

  • @SmileAtTheMoon i know i married one 30 years ago

  • @SmileAtTheMoon they still are

  • Love the Stranglers. This song would probably see them on the sex offenders registar nowadays in these PC times.

  • Its Ophelia Balls .

  • @HAYWAIN63 Oh...you're funny. Is your hero Benny Hill? Alexei Sayle? Or did your parents play Avon Calling with your soft spot at birth?

  • Anyone know who the lead girl in the video is? I've seen her somewhere

  • M mum and dad are punk rockers and me uncles dead, boIL

  • no pubs for new bands to play in,no outlet for new youth creativity.back then my old dad told me they were gonna destroy this part of brit life because the establishment felt threatened by it.they were and they did.now you hear us rap and white boy makeup shite.shame on you grow some bollocks!

  • I remember my big sister being a big Stranglers fan back in the day and i think thats where my love for them grew from.

Also is it just me or is that Keith Allen at 0:51 the policeman?

    Sure looks like him

  • @Staffyno1 Nah! The policeman is Dave Greenfield, keyboard player for the Stranglers!

  • Every single bird on this vid is absolutely f..kin' gorgeous.

Why do we not have such uncommercial individuality anymore?...

  • Because the government dictate - in this "supposed democracy!"

Added to the fact that if you are even slightly different from the norm (especially in a council estate) then you had better have balls bigger than yer brain!

Otherwise this totalitarian state will demolish you!

  • sadly this is far to true

  • How did we do all that without any money!

  • I've always found this song poignant and evokes similar sadness to Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat.

  • This is true!

It's about a runaway seeking acceptance within this "Not-So-United-Kingdom!"

After a history of home abuse!

Makes me proud to be British!

  • Many thanks for this..I remeber being MUCH younger listening to this..and its an amazing trip back down nostalgia avenue..Oh to be young and insane again..Sadly at 50 I still am the same..just OLDER...cool to hear this again..

  • Strangely enough no pun intended; a lot of these punk girls were from middle class backgrounds, and many of them were very intelligent; their parents must have despaired of them at the time. I had a punkish girlfriend; middle class girl, me skinhead working class, good times, good memories of my teenage years.

  • I agree and it goes for any girl growing up as a teenager ..such confusing times..but indeed unforgettable:-))

  • This song has a melancholy feel to it. It always reminds me of 7pm on a sunday night in the early 80's, dreading school the next day!

  • lol i know exactly what you were feeling bud. I usually got that feeling around 10 PM watching the end of a sunday night movie and thinking "damn, i still haven't started my homework!"

  • brill

  • 1982's best song by a country mile(1.61 km)

  • Love Tori's version but the original is just so beautifully clasic!

  • This Song is Just HAUNTING, Tori's Version Equally Good- Awesome all-round ♪»-(¯`v´¯)-»Karen McLovin ♪((*_*))♥

  • Cool song, cooler video and hot punk chicks!

  • Yea that chick is hot...reminds me of this girl that i know way back...

  • that girl is beautful

  • wonder what they look like now?

  • LOVED this song. Remember them preforming it on TOP of The POPS. Great.

  • For some reason this reminds me of the Sandman series...

  • Yeah, her hair is just like Morpheu's! I miss Sandaman.

  • Great song, great band, and strange but beautiful little girls.

  • Wow those are some awesome hairdos' - alot of freakn' effort though. How did they sleep? In massage beds face down?

  • Mean critic, eat shit!

  • ok where.

  • che bella!

  • disco Salento + disco fifix at the same time. enormous song.

  • The melody of this strange song that haunts my memories !

  • Best. Song. Ever.

  • this vid is beautiful! and btw, the song is great!!!!

  • I was a teenage back when this was in the uk charts. great times, even though thatcher was screwing everything up...

  • ha ha, remember having to put your head on the table

    to blow-dry the mo-hawk straight?

  • Ha ha! i was going to go for a haircut like that but they would have kicked me out of school. shame, if they ever gig again maybe i'll go for it then. i'm lucky i still have a good head of hair after all these years. cheers

  • god what a song. i was brought up with this music playin in the house. takes me right back!

  • is this the girl from deacon blue?

  • great great great

  • Cette chanson est absolument magnifique! C'est ma préférée. Je les ai vu en concert, ils sont extra! Vraiment à voir!

  • the days when music and fashion meant something!

  • just sounds like you got old mate

  • na mate,my ears have always been young,x factor, wanabees, trying to be cool instead of being cool,re doing old as if new, yeah the stranglers are way outa fashion, but at least it was of the time,or maybe i should start watchin z factor and listening to (C)rap or justin stinkinglake------na give me REAL fashion and music anyday even if i have to go backwards! poor kids :)

  • heh shows what you know about modern fashion... indie is very much "In"

oh so back in the 80's there was no such thing as pop? you make me laugh when you think that modern music can fall under a single genre

"trying to be cool instead of being cool" - sounds like you mate

  • im sure you will understand when you grow up :)

  • I'm sure you would have understood a 20years ago

  • is this the girl from deacon blue?

  • Maybe it's just cuz I'm old (over 45) but these girls just look so young and beautiful to me now. At the time they would have scared me!

  • interesting version....I can't help but like Tori's version more ...I heard that one first...It's a great song...great lyrics ....I love it when you hear one version of a song and the whole "feel" and "message" seems a bit or a lot changed/different and you hear the "original" or another version and it's like a whole new experience all over again ....or something...you know what I mean? hahahaha

  • Awesome.. I love it!

  • punks not dead,oh,no its not..smell ma maw.

  • this song takes me back to the 80's i love the feeling i get from this song!! i dont know if its just me but, it makes you feel nostalgic in a way

  • I totally agree, it brings you back to all those memories..even though I was born in the 90s. ^^; still GREAT band.

  • song is kick ass...

  • i wish this caulture was still like this....

  • what do you mean??

  • like how big the scene was in the 70s....now you have to search hard for shows and everything. the culture went more underground now then it was in the 70s.... i love Punk rock and it makes me sick how its hard to find the good shit now days.

back then every where you turned there was eaither a punk, or there was a show. now everyone is hidden.

  • that's because it's out of fashion now...

  • I lv the vid and the song and the band ther the best :)

  • A wonderful vid by Lindsey Clennell, who did lots of vids for the Stranglers, and now teaches yoga in NYC. "Strange" tells the story very economically, and, yeah, the girl is interesting, as is the whole London scene depicted. Vid first aired July 1982.

  • i saw them yesterday,,,buz is ok, not guilty at all...but in 1990 story finished, what remains is nostalgia...no more stranglers anymore!

  • hugh was ok. but the stranglers sound is a lot stronger without him?baz is a better all rounder

  • hugh the best ever, who could replace? no one ever

  • i really fancy the girl in the vid !!

  • Didn't think the Starnglers would get involved in the whole token fashion punk thing. The two sections in the vid don't sit comfortably with one another, the band is far too cool!

  • you obviously under 45 and dont understand that the Stranglers grew out of the punk scene and have an almost Greatful Dead following.

  • Well I'm over 45 and I kind of agree. The visuals here are about 5 years too late. By 1982 this was passe already. The girls in the video don't look very interesting, let alone strange. Now if this were a video from a song on their first album, in 1977, it might have made more sense. I also think The Stranglers were too cool for the hollow hair and makeup scene.

  • 1: 44 - she looks like the girl from Skeletal Family!

  • do i know where i could be going?

  • Darling deathrock damsels!

  • hot

  • that is such a cool Video!! I love it!!

  • This song used to scare me when i was lil lol

  • Hugh Cornwall is in This video -the original lead singer. Anyone know what he is up to now?

  • Well Hugh is still recording. His last solo album, Hoover Dam is available for free download.

  • THANKS -WILL CHECK IT OUT

  • My youth...*_*

  • 80`s, I remember...

  • this is the song i like to listen to while i walk, the melody takes me away :P

  • guao

  • Love the style so well ahead of its time even today.

  • mmm... i absoloutley adore this video.

    ~Sigh.

  • This is an awesome song...unfortunately, I don't ever remember hearing this played in the U.S. when I was growing up. Did the Stranglers have much presence in America?

  • Nope! probably something to do with burnin the flag and suggesting americans have smaller brains and being anti american in 1977. However Hugh has softened his stance towards the USA these days.

  • Wow...thanks for the reply. Glad to finally receive an answer, even if it's not the most pleasant one to hear.

  • It was a naieve stance and clearly meant to be provocative which was all part of punk in 1977 to attack institutions and corporate giants like Ford. The Stranglers would provoke responses and take up causes such as the rights of prisoners or wind up the GLC and BBC. No one was spared so I don't think there was a particular hatred for the states just that they were into the european thing back then. These were not my views but shows how PUNK they were.

  • Almklit, thanks again for your thoughtful post. I am often torn with many American entertainers as well, who are very talented, but very wrong (in my opinion) regarding world policy. But I still can appreciate the Stranglers for their great talent. Truthfully, we do need more folks like you in America these days :)

  • BAROQUE.

  • stranglers are fucking amazing, there music is timeless, anyone who appreaciates acoustic music can appreaciate the stranglers

  • My 14UK is due to...1982 and being that age, that year.

But look at those girls.. bloody Hell... that could be NOW!

  • paypartyguy. Well the 80's we're good times mostly. The pound was strong, (oil revenue) I remember going over to France in 83, and you could buy 3 of their beers for £1.40. This record reminds me of a bird on a bus travelling up to Burnley from Wiltshire, she was stunningly beautiful and I got chatting to her, and wanted to know her more, but of course we parted when the journey ended, "Strange little girl where are you going, do you know where you could be going. With me I wished.

  • :]

I really like when people get nostalgic while hearing songs.

It's amazing how a simple song can contain so much of ourselves and our life.

  • Ha that's adorable

  • the stranglers are sposed to be touring here in aus in december, but the gigs havent even been confirmed yet WHATS GOIN ON AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH

  • Wow, I missed them last time they were out...hope that goes ahead!

  • OK I'm too young to be alive when this came out, but I really think early 80's Britain must have been great. The fact that the country was crap made people more imaginitive, just look at the originality of the punk fashions, and music.

The stranglers have had some real belters, but this makes a welcome downbeat change - and is really emotional.

Try walking down the street with this on yer iPod and not walk-dancing funny.

    In a word - musically revoloutionary (yea, that's 2, I know).

  • i totaly agree 100% with everything you just said except the walking down the street funnily aha so i guess that makes it like 95% lol xx

  • Great vid! Jaysus, 1982 seems a long long time ago in Thatcher's bloody Britain...

  • Have had two ex-boyfriends say they'll always think of me every time they hear this song. Taken it as a compliment though: it's such a beautiful song.

  • Fancy a third ?

My ex was that strange little girl.

  • i like punk chicks.

  • f home alone with webcam d

  • I've always loved this song.

  • when i'm listening that song i feel that nobody can blame me for who i am and why i haven't find myself yet. i don't know why don't ask me. love this song very very very much mmm gourgeous

  • vikesh81 The Stranglers were around before punk reared it's ugly head. They're musicians. You'd probably define punk as

  • as?

  • Blink 182.

  • lol, I didn't mean to come off as an ass, if I did. I was just curious.

Blink 182 is, I believe, called "pop" punk, but I'm not sure.

However... punk had an ugly head? I quite like the original rise of punk = \ xD

  • The Stranglers

  • Now then. This does NOT sound like punk music to me. I was promised punk music with The Stranglers. What is occurring ?

  • What is occuring is that their trying something different like all good bands do at some point in their career. And i like it.

  • Stanglers are the best.

  • Kill Your Pet Puppy collective girl

  • i wish it was still like those days those wgere the best times ever

  • Every time I hear the middle break in this song I get goosebumps!

  • Me too. This is a well crafted song.

Have you heard the demo version from 1974?

    Great stuff.

  • this takes me back to the good days when we were the people, not this huddie shit init (BOLLOX)

  • thats some wicked cool punk mohawks 4 girls, nice nice

  • Beautiful. The 80s at their best.

  • One of my FAVOURITES!!

Awesome band, they've got so many fantastic songs

  • i love this song ^^

LAWL AT 1:25 MINS! HA and eww

  • beautiful song

  • looks like the harry potter kid

  • Far from their best. This song was around the time they started to lose their energy and became a bit boring imo.

  • You know mate, this song was basically written before The Stranglers even recorded debut album. And in 1982 they still had the energy. Yet, I agree that it's far from their best

  • I was that strange little girl!

  • dave greenfield as a copper-ha ha ha!!!

  • ...isnt not wanting to kill yourself a good thing??? LOL

  • no. i don't wanna live in a world that's good only for some

  • And why is this?

  • So you choose to ignore the fact better than treating it as what it is (a fact xD)?

  • Kocham Cie Basiu !

  • Love this song.

  • Great song form a really great band. Thanks for the post

  • For me the best punk band ever

  • the perfect punk song vid!

  • great song yes, punk? only by association

  • Thanx for posting this - the Stranglers were a great band bitd

  • i think she so pretty

  • In a world often cold, atomized, unfeeling, the advice of "join a group" still goes. But it has to be the right group. This is a great little film, and one's heart melts to see the girl finding her place, being cared for, and loved in this mini society of women.

The guy who did this vid now teaches yoga in NYC. Sounds about right.

Anyway, come to think of it, this is one of the great, great vids, of the Stranglers, yeah, but also of anyone else. A work of art, for all time.

  • WOW i used to love this song my step father used to play it all the time int he 80's!

  • That girl reminds me of..me!!!!

  • pour toi sara...
