Such a great band and songwriter! Love this tune :-) Ps if you guys have a second or two please check out my bands music video for 21st Century Man, we are called The Seven Deadly Sins and are from Edinburgh. Find it through the seach bar or our channel, thanks!
God this takes me back, remember when I got this album I would play over and over...I'm now 46 and I still don't tire of it....I don't care what anyone says the 80s had great music unlike the crap on the radio nowadays
@ana1sninja thats soo true, but I can't help it but I would like to think all great music was made from Mozart's time to 1999. After 2000 it started to go downhill and when 2010 arrived it just completely sucked.
@Geo69xr I know you have to dig down deep to find good music. I mean like...really deep most of the time the songs aren't online and no ones ever heard of what you're looking for.
This wasn't on the radio in the 80s, hair-pop-metal-rock was, which still makes up a good chunk of the radio stations "nowadays". Good music is rarely played on the radio.
Early 'Mats up to including a couple of tracks on Let It Be = punk.
Punk encompassed stuff such as Blondie, Talking Heads, the Police, Television, The Cure, U2, Elvis Costello and Pere Ubu, besides just The Ramones, The Buzzcocks & Bad Brains. And nearly all quickly morphed into what became "new wave".
too bad stinson took up with that bitch axl .could ve been a cool reunion. the replacements made a landscape for american rock that neither REM or Husker could DU. you think I'm kidding . just listen.
@heliot58 I wouldn't consider the Mats punk. They were just one of the first "alternative" bands. They had punk influences, but they hardly fit the punk mold.
@tristhan1181 I disagree "punk" isn't about sound it's about attitude and self destructiveness. I consider the Mats to be more punk than even some of the first bands that come to mind when you hear the word punk.
Sort of a perfect wayward song that looks inward instead of outwards like the Rolling Stones Satisfaction. Can you imagine anyone singing it better? Paul's got a heart full of soul.
Rollins College and my roommates Sean, Nathan and John and I listened to this album so many times over and over. Replacements came to the VFW and I could not make it. Great friends from those college days and great music....Class of 86 and 88. Great memories this takes me back to...
What a great song. How bad is music nowadays when i would prefer a 27 yr old song to the shit that gets played today? Like to hear some of the current douchebags sing a tune like this! It would sound soooo pathetic!
@creeg84 there are the same amount of douchebags as there were in the 80s, and the same amount of good bands that, like in the 80s, aren't recognized and remain underground,
i have always dug these guys so much ... ever since the days of 120 mins on mtv sunday nights back in the 80´s when that dickhead dave kendall thought he was the cats meow in the eye of all things cool ... NOT ! hehe .... but back to the subject at hand .... LONG LIVE THE ´MENTS !
@Southie99 I was only joking. Really, I was. It's not the subject matter that led me to that joke, but the overwrought emotional tone of the song. I am aware that the replacements are not EMO.
@adambombiswaycool ...because I told a joke about the replacements? I love the replacements. I love this song. I don't understand what the problem is. of course when you're dealing with someone with a username like "adambombiswaycool" you have to make allowances for feckless stupidity and witless insults.
So surprised to see some Replacements/Paul Westerberg coming out of the wood works and being respected. Song writing genius, some of the 80's went undiscovered, but people like Reed, Westerberg,D. Johansen,Bob Mould. True soulful art/rock and roll!
This song is the post-punk "Satisfaction". It expresses all the frustration, desperation, anxiety, and world weariness of being sixteen years old. Still love it 25 years later.
@blakeandcrap It wasn't The Replacements. It was the Refreshments - Yahoos and Triangles. Took me two minutes to find that out after reading your post. It pays to do a little research before posting.

Great song. If you are not getting that the beginning is great and middle is great and end is perfect then as Arthur Lee sang "then you go back across the street yeah" and watch the movie Adventureland a million times. One doesn't joke about the Replacements. ha.
I would like to meet Seymour Stein today and say...you weren't wrong signing them. He may not have made a lot of money off the Mats, but what a catch.
