  • @YragQtip If you listen closely to the album, you can tell that April Wind is a different song, sort of introducing this one . . . for some reason they cut out the second half of this song during this performance. Second half is clearly missing here.

  • this is the end the other part april wind is the 1st part

  • that is just so awesome man. totally wicked. grade A all the way.

  • This entire album tells a story.Every tune moves me in ways no other music on earth can. I can listen to this over and over and over again.

  • lol; I have to agree. Every time I hear the first notes of the "Group Album", I'm like an addict, I have to listen to the whole thing. It really cool to hear these songs live, and hearing these guys express these songs a little differently.

  • @pmgnut : I totally agree. This music have been the best to me in early uears, and still make me crying.

  • Like many people, this is how I first knew the Metheny group, one of my fovourite songs of that period, thank you so much for posting.

  • Does anybody can tell something about the line-up? Thanks

  • Wow this is amazing. I'm glad I found it.

  • my fav musicians- metheny/mays- in the world

  • Mark Eagan on Bass Awesome tune!! Like to see them reunite!!! True Classic and by the Way if you are a True Pat Metheny Fan this cd is a must have!!

It is the first album under the PMG name!!

    Lyle is a Monster!!!

  • Wow! I love this song when I was much younger (like 30 years ago). This is indeed a rare footage of Pat, Mays and Jaco in their youthful exuberance and energy. . .

    Thank You.

  • second nature, great jam

  • look how young these guys were!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • some one know what's Pat setup, i know he use an acoustic 134 but i belive to see different effect in bleu rack, ?

  • not sure about that, but he also used early lexicon digital delay units.

  • Wow. I love this video. Thank you so much!

I could say that 'April Joy' is the song of my life, the best music I've heard, and this live performance is just what I've dreamt of watching. I hope to hear it live in their concert someday.

They are really young in the video :)

  • I really love the original line up!

  • Man! Thank you so much for posting these early videos. I really became a fan in late 79 early 80 and, though there are many pictures, never saw any film. What a great period of time for them and for jazz. Hope you have even more! Thanks again.

  • What a great band. The improvisation inside the architecture of his tunes is the genius of Pat & Lyle. Mark and Dan shine when it is their turn. What a dynamic rhythm section. Thanks for posting this.

  • Whoaaa ! Never has seen before this images from Pat , I've seen them in Paris in 1982 but Danny Gotlieb and Mark weren't there , instead was Pedro Aznar, Paul Wertico and Steve Rodby..;not bad too , but this a true image + earmeal moment with the original guys. Thanks Sitiofandot !!

  • Thanx!!

    Vintage Pat!

I stil love his early stuff so much!

  • Great great great video, thanks!

  • year??

    thanks

  • 1980 judging by the other Onkel Pos videos (and the equipment)

  • pat metheny , marg egan (BASS) dan gottlieb(drums)and sir. lyle Mays

  • nice one!

  • Could any1 help me and tell me how does that bassist get that sound?? Thanx

  • basically that's the sound of a fretless bass

  • That bass sounds extra good because Jaco applied his magic to it for Pat. It's actually Metheneys bass and Mark had to give it back when he left the group.

  • I've heard that Jaco's bass was stolen from the freight in a south american trip in the 90'. Don't now if it is true but the robber must have that like kind a "Gioconda" at home !

  • always nice to see rare concert footage of the 'oldies'. I noticed in this version they don't segue into the Phase Dance-esque ending like on the album. Still, I enjoyed the solo improvs.

  • ..excellent..this tune reminds me the best years of my life..masterpiece!..thanks for uploading..
