thought that was neat how pat let mark take the handle for a good long while then lyle very unselfish of pat smart too makes the tune more enjoyable dont get me wrong love it when metheny lets it rip through an entirety of a song
@YragQtip If you listen closely to the album, you can tell that April Wind is a different song, sort of introducing this one . . . for some reason they cut out the second half of this song during this performance. Second half is clearly missing here.
lol; I have to agree. Every time I hear the first notes of the "Group Album", I'm like an addict, I have to listen to the whole thing. It really cool to hear these songs live, and hearing these guys express these songs a little differently.
Wanna record YouTube videos? Glad there is the app called TOOBLE. It is for Mac Os X and may or not be available for Windoze. GREAT app for downloading YouTube videos!
Wow! I love this song when I was much younger (like 30 years ago). This is indeed a rare footage of Pat, Mays and Jaco in their youthful exuberance and energy. . .
I could say that 'April Joy' is the song of my life, the best music I've heard, and this live performance is just what I've dreamt of watching. I hope to hear it live in their concert someday.
Man! Thank you so much for posting these early videos. I really became a fan in late 79 early 80 and, though there are many pictures, never saw any film. What a great period of time for them and for jazz. Hope you have even more! Thanks again.
What a great band. The improvisation inside the architecture of his tunes is the genius of Pat & Lyle. Mark and Dan shine when it is their turn. What a dynamic rhythm section. Thanks for posting this.
Whoaaa ! Never has seen before this images from Pat , I've seen them in Paris in 1982 but Danny Gotlieb and Mark weren't there , instead was Pedro Aznar, Paul Wertico and Steve Rodby..;not bad too , but this a true image + earmeal moment with the original guys. Thanks Sitiofandot !!
That bass sounds extra good because Jaco applied his magic to it for Pat. It's actually Metheneys bass and Mark had to give it back when he left the group.
I've heard that Jaco's bass was stolen from the freight in a south american trip in the 90'. Don't now if it is true but the robber must have that like kind a "Gioconda" at home !
always nice to see rare concert footage of the 'oldies'. I noticed in this version they don't segue into the Phase Dance-esque ending like on the album. Still, I enjoyed the solo improvs.
