Many of their songs have multiple sections & are well structured, which makes the songs interesting for the vast majority of people, the solos don't take that much of the song. Some of their songs aren't heavy, I don't judge music on that. Its a known fact that Petrucci doesn't record on MIDI, he has been live a large amount of time and does his solos really well. I can understand the fact that you don't like the vocals, its a more personal preference.
