Don't run the drill bit at high speed (even the ones that say "high-speed" on them). Thats why you burned through three drill bits. It also helps if you use a spray lubricant during the drilling process to reduce friction or quench the drill bit in water every few seconds to cool the bit. Just tryin to help.
@alivingspartan great advice! leaned this after doing a buds car for him, by just cooling the bit and running slower speed worked great on the 2nd job i did. but the lube is a good idea too.
@MethodRacing Hey no prob man. I actually tried this on my 97 GS-T (no cat, 2.5'' straight piped, turbo back exhaust) and I didnt have a check engine light until about after a few hrs of driving unfortunately :/ When I got my exhaust done the CEL came on almost immediately, so I think this might be a viable solution if I had maybe another spacer in there? Only one way to find out I guess....
@Greeneyeddevl just remember your lying to the cpu so you may need more or less spacers depending, just trick the cpu in thinking there is enuff flow to be moving and enuff restriction to show a working catalyst all cars are diff. depending on make and model
nice work, i'm thinking of putting a test on mine, and this would solve the cel problem, but could this create any other problems, long term or any kind of a/f issues?
@shadeseeker09 nope no issues but maybe some black carbon buildup on your rear bumper, A/F will be the same due to your comp thinking u have a working cat. you will notice much quicker spool. a must have for turbo applications.
@MethodRacing nice idea, I want to do this to my 04 maxima, do you think is gonna work? what is the size of the spark plug anti-fouler, or are they all the same size?
if you run out of room you can have a bung installed by any muffler shop in a spot w/ better clearance. and plug up the old bung. it will work you just have to pull it out enough to trick the comp to think there is a catalyst
Yeah I did this and they rusted out, so I got stainless steel ones from bigdaddiesgarage com. perfect fit , no hassels and works exceptionally well. Still if you just need this for a short time do the non foulers.
so you have to use two foulers back to back it seems . now do you have do drill out both of them or just one and if so which one thanks for your help this is for a chevy thanks
yes use two and drill them out equally so the tip of the o2 sennsor will be able to poke out a bit. use whatever you have to just make sure the tip pokes into the exhaust flow slightly about a CM or two, depending on type of o2 sensor and type of fouler you use you may need only 1 or maybe 3
