The Nazis destroyed 90% of my City. A few beautiful buildings are still there. The Children Hospital is still in ruins as a memorial to the crime committed on Russian soil. Many years later, in the USA I met an old German who told me that he spent a few years in Siberia working in one of the camps. He told me that the Guards were not very nice and kept telling him "Rabotai, rabotai". Really? Hmm.

Central, the historical part of Voronezh have been restored quite carefully, but now it is mutilated by incorporation of "modern" architecture... it is sad.

After the Voronezh liberation huge territories around it was covered with dead bodies Russians and Germans... mixture of minefields made it impossible to take care of them till following spring...

90% of a beautiful City was destroyed by the Nazis. Children hospital still lays in ruins as a reminder of those days. I remember walking through Peschaniy Log in the woods where the Germans murdered thousands of women and children and buried them in one huge grave. Even though I was a child an could not imagine what had actually happened, I had goose bumps. Sad and creepy place. After the war Voronezh was quickly restored (as a result, ugly multi-storied khrushevka buildings)
