  • Your pond is beautiful. Did you need a building permit of some sort with one of that size?

  • The pond is at Uppingham, some way from where I live. I found some information on regulations for you. This is from one of the BBC's handbooks.

"Small garden ponds are not subject to regulation."

    For farms:

"If heavy machinery is needed, or the pond is greater than 0.25 ha, the local planning authority should be consulted in case consent is needed."

  • That helps, thanks for the quick response : )

  • Glad to help. Also, large ponds aren't allowed close to main roads. A local planning authority would be able to give information on the restrictions.

  • Wish we could have lilies, our fish eat any plants we dare put in their pond lol. I put a load of that oxygenating weed in it last year to help with the levels. Within an hour it was all floating at the top in pieces

  • Could you surround the weed with netting, with mesh large enough to allow water to circulate but too small for the fish to get through?

  • Do you have any fish? The water was a bit cloudy in this pond. Maybe it needed a filter.

  • ya, we have waterlillies in our pond. they only last a few days each, then they wilt and die.
