  • what twist rate is that rifle? and barrel length

  • Great video!

  • Take that ak47!

  • Awesome video! Love that vapor trail. 2 high quality HD cameras would be insane.

  • now that's cool :)

  • Very nice shooting, and nicely put together video. I came across your video after searching for long range .223. Earlier today I was hitting at a torso-sized target at 720metres (about 765 yards). I was getting about 7 hits every for 10 shots. No video though ha ha !

    (Remington 700 VS 1:12 with 55gn homeloads.)

  • Nice stuff! Shooting the small stuff at range really makes you appreciate the heavier pills!

  • That is incredible shooting with 223.

  • why hollow points? would thank not work against you?

  • Ok I'll do that with my PSL

  • ...Great video Scotty...Thank you....What "twist rate" is your Barrel?....1-8 ??

  • @svenska1946

    Yes, that is a 1:8, 24" long.

  • Great shooting. If you can estimate, what was your hold-over on these shots? Was your ammunition hand-loaded or factory?

  • @theflyoverzone

Handloads, not high pressure, I forget the correction used that day, but I was dialing the scope for it rather than holding in the reticle. I generally dial the elevation and hold the wind.

  • @scottys1 i would have like to see you show us the 223 amo then load then shoot..but still great video

  • Niice!!! Even your misses would've been a hit on a larger target/animal

  • @Crakmonkey2647

Yes, a full-size torso target would have seen a lot more hits.

  • Is it easier to shoot that distance because it's downhill vs. a flat terrain? Good shooting either way!

  • @gomergilligan

Actually, it's not more than a degree or two of slope, not downhill at all. In a true high angle scenario, your elevation correction is less regardless of whether you are shooting up or down.

  • Good shooting

  • Awesome shooting! Tango down!!

  • Hey, AK people, I wanna see you do that with your AK

  • GOOD SHOOTING!!!! now your next challenge is to attempt that...... with a ruger 10/22 lol! seriously actually try it hahaha do it for me pelase

  • i love this vid, please more :)

  • That's extremely impressive, man. Great work.

  • sick video .. the trail is pretty awesome too see

  • you sir, just killed an innocent penguin...

    haha good shots

  • Nice shooting ive been wanting to try this with my 24' rock river varmint a4, but most ranges around here go only to 200 yards and most private land owners don't like the idea. Love that Hornady 75gr though awesome round

  • Hi Scotty. Did you do any mods to your dpms or is it all factory in this video? And were you a former Marine? Just curious, noticed the boonie.

  • @MikeM0331 Mike, in this video it is factory except for the CMC 2-stage trigger. And the boonie was a gift from an 0311, I'm just a regular guy that shoots for fun.

  • @scottys1 Cool. I was thinking about getting one of those rifles.

  • My son and friend tore up my target at 25yrds. Great shooting! final note for the trying to learn. Scopes normally dictate 100m/100yards per 1X on scopes so a good 1-4x should be good to 400 yards unless you have old eyes like me. I'm looking for a 1-10x to use for my LMT 2000 defender! LMT rocks! btw, My son is in Iraq right now and he is carrying a M4, M249b, and sometimes manning a M240. Pray that these soldiers come home soon!!

  • An expert would be using 308/338 for an 800 yard shot in combat. this vid did help me to see the effective target range of my LMT which is great. Nice thing about shooting 800 yards with 556/223 is your target is not harmed.

  • If you are in combat like Iraq you would be carrying a 556/223 round in most guns M4, M16, M249b, with a gunner as backup with 308 and 50 cal. Now we are starting to arm the troops in AF with 308's and 338's. Just for the record this 556/223 round at 25yrds will put a hole in 1/2 steel plate. will f***up your day at 100, 200 and maybe out to 400/500 yards.

  • This round is for close combat ranges and not hunting. To the main things to remember it did take our 3 bad guys in vietnam! one wounded guy and 2 to carry. However, I'm sure if you actually want to shoot this distance you would consider either 308, 30-06, or my fav 338. You are not going to carry a .50 cal. Another reason to carrry 556/223 you can carry more rounds.

  • Very Nice Vid man! Ok i went back read about 6mos worth of comments... for those that like to use negative comments my not be able to actually communicate well. However, I found this vid interesting. I'm currently looking for a good quality scope for my LMT 556/223 AR15 rifle..

  • I read an article on the long range hunter forum that one of the senior guys there wrote. He does gun reviews for magazines and competes in 1 mile + shooting contests quite often. He built himself a 223 off the stevens 200 action with some adjustments (match barrel, bedding, counter weights, new stock, and highly shimmed up scope mounts) to attempt shots at 1 mile. He was able to get the doping down and he hit a 1 foot by 2 foot rock 10 times in a row. I was really impressed.

  • the 223 is used because it is a wounding round one guy gets wounded means he needs looking after that takes 2 peopleout of the fight they thought throught the decsion to use 223 very well in my opinion it was the right choice althought 204 or the 243 would be the next candidates

  • @MrRambo438 That's actually a myth. A rather old and debunked myth. The caliber is intended to kill. Not wound. A wounded enemy can still return fire and be very active. A dead one cannot. Wounded can be moved to cover in a few seconds by a single person and treated by a medic. Medivacs don't come in until much later and usually after the fight is over.

  • this is some pretty damn good rifle shootin, i recently bought a .223 rem heavy barrel, 350 yard s is the furthest ive shot a 6 inch target at so far. hope to test it out to 500 yards soon, be awhile before im up to this class though

  • that was awesome!! great shooting! Anyone that doesnt like this just wishes they could have a gun like yours and shoot it that good. Nice vid man

  • So if a teen like me could shoot that, any experienced hunter/shooter could shoot way further. I have so much fam that shoots .260s, and other calibers over 1000yrds.I will get better too. Practice, practice, practice.

  • Oh I've heard of that. No offense to anybody who shoots these rounds, but when it comes to it, I know that my 30.06 or .308 would out perform. Way more power, distance, and with a proper shooter, amazing accuracy. Right now, I can shoot 6in plate at over 500yrds

  • Nice shooting scotty! What camara are you using at the gun line? and how do you sync them?

  • @MikeM0331 Cameras are Sony TRV-250 digital 8 with Zeiss lenses. Synced in Premier Pro software.

  • @scottys1 Ok Thanks!

  • I'm sure it really depends on the type of round. The military round(ball round) doesn't mushroom, so the damage is way lower. But hunting rounds expand, it's damage is significantly higher. Think of it as a smooth spike going into something. Yes there's damage. But compared to a jagged spike, the damage is way less

  • @datkine7 Actually, military ball rounds are quite powerful. Instead of mushrooming, they tumble when they hit, which is actually better when it comes to piercing armor and getting clean kills. The tumbling effect is also similar to mushrooming, enough so that a basically varmint caliber can take out human targets.

  • @navyguardf18 The reason the military ball rounds tumble and fragment because the bullet itself is harder jacketed than your average hunting round and moving at a high rate of speed which is good for a military round but doesnt cause enough damage for a game animal such as a deer u wont a round that mushrooms more depending on the toughness of which ur shooting but a ball round is good for a human target because you need that extra penetration

  • @2009rebel65 But they don't use it because of penetration, they use it because they have to. The Geneva convention requires that no mushrooming rounds be used on humans.

  • @navyguardf18 It's not the Geneva Convention that says that. And the US didn't sign the Convention that does specify that no ammunition designed to cause unnecessary wounding can be used in war.

  • Wonder how much difference a hand loaded ammo would do ?

  • BANG.....1.....2.DING

    epic

  • Way cool, man! I 'm trying to put PSO-1 scope on my AK-74 and check what 5.45 can do at extended ranges... gretings from Ogden, UT

  • You have the best camera setup that I`ve saw..Yeah,the wind messing you up.

  • Man that is some awesome shooting. I just got a .223 rifle and I love shooting it out to 600 nowhere like you guys but loving it.

  • @TheRossBeast i doubt the .223 would have the energy at that range to set off the reaction.

  • All you idiots that dont shoot regularly SHUT UP!!! That shot is hard to do but not impossible.

  • @hermanwieler

    - Will you please reread your comment, you sound brilliant.

  • Lol I didn't realize our boonies were authorized for wear with civilian attire ;) sure are nice though. Good shooting

  • what the price of this weapon ?

  • this was one of the best shooting videos on the net. use two video cameras was just

awesome. just great shooting just go`s to show what a .22,3 round can do.

awesome video and awesome shooting realy enjoyed this video

thankyou (your the man) please keep makein the vids.

  • Looks awesome. Im thinking of putting a 3-9 on my parachute knife.... in case SHTF I can knife someone from 800 yards

  • @MrGr1874 What recoil?? If you film yourself you will see the recoil but you wont feel it... if i remember right the average recoil of a .223 is like 3-5 pounds its calm enough that you can keep control of the gun after the shot and watch the impact through a scope.

  • Great shooting Man. I would say that your kill zone at this distance for that setup is 3' wide by 2' tall. Would you agree? So, i guess at 400 yards the kill zone would quite smaller. I think most people over report their accuracy. I think there are very few if any rifle that can shoot sub moa at 100 yards in say an eight shot string. Not just cherry picking your best shoots. But taking the whole string together to get your kill zone. Let me know what you think, thanks.

  • Dude, great video... you should do a long range penetration test with a 16" barrel ar 15 in .223 I personally believe .223 is junk. And in a combat situation, the enemy probably won't stand there and wait until you get lucky enough to hit him directly in the eye. If someone was shooting at me, I'd run like hell. I just want to see how realistically effective an m4 would be at 500-800m against a target wearing heavy clothing and maybe even body armor... Thanks, and once again, great video.

  • a 22 lr will kill at that range it depends on where u hit the target any caliber will killif it hits u in tje head at that distance

  • will it kill you from that range?

  • @MrHusker83 we already blew his eye out of his skull... ;-)

  • CHEAT CODES!!!!

  • Wow great shooting. I just got a .223 rifle for fun and you don't realize how hard it is until you get out there and start doing it. So many things can go wrong at that range. I'm impressed. What grain bt are you using

  • At this range with a .223???? That is very impressive.

That could have been a Cash register in the background, if He was in competition...

  • Holy mother fucking shit. O_O.

    With a 223?

We got an AR-15 thats a .223, and just put a scope on it,

Might shoot this far. Who knows.

  • Awesome I wander if it would still kill a man at that distance.

  • see, when i make shots like that,im wearing my mp3 player with a little highway to the danger zone playing,ya know, just to get psyched.

  • Awesome shooting thats impressive with the distance and wind.

  • What I love is the 2.5 seconds it takes for the sound to travel back to the shooter's position. Great stuff.

  • Tha's some good shooting... Cool vid!

  • What's your barrel twist?

  • Just like I tell my squadmates "It's not the arrow, is the Indian". There's people that have badass equipment and can't shoot the broadside of a barn. You did good, btw DPMS rocks.

  • Hey THanks for the vid, the target cam made it really fun to watch. Makes me rethink the AR15 platform as a viable SASS system at ranges over 600m.

Will have to find some wide open spaces to go shooting when i get back to the states. Can you just go out on public-government land out west or is that private land?

  • Thanks for the vid! Very nice ;-)

  • realy good shooting. great mixing and stuff.. definatly the best shots on youtube!!!!

  • nice shootin'.

  • fantastic 223 shooting

  • were/are you in the service? that's damn good shooting with a .223. what grain rounds do you use?

  • @puncher53 He said 75 grain in the vid.

  • at that distance and being as windy as it is where you are the light bullet is easily affected. GREAT shooting. time to bring it to 500 and use irons. :)

  • @docstruthers

Actually, in HP OTC, we shoot 600 with irons....;-)

  • @scottys1....what is the bullet drop in inches with that exact rifle?

  • @docstruthers

Are you able to get the 75's to fit in the clip? Seating them deep?

  • Excellent video and excellent shooter. It's very interesting that the audio of camera one is fade with camera two so you can ear how long it takes the 223 to reach the target. Also is very interesting to observe that even with such a good weapon like the DPMS (Panther) 24'', the ammo is so light that can't penetrate the plate. (I wonder if a kevlar jacket will hold) . As I know the M76, The PSL54R or the M14(maybe) at this distance with steel core ammo will make a nice hole in that plate.

  • Damn good shooting, what length barrel and what type of stock did you have on this ar 15 during this video?

  • Great shooting mate. What twist rate does your barrel have? and do you think a remington 700 .223 with 1:9 twist rate could shoot as well as your AR?

  • Why is the force so Lil,I'm not a expert but is the plate pose to fall or just take a hit?

Meaning if that was a Zombie would u take him down or just piss him off,lol

  • great shooting! furthest i've reached out with an m4 is 800m, but i wasn't hitting nearly as much as you

  • I love seeing people push guns to the limit:) Keep Farming Lead!!!!

  • Very cool with the two cameras and two microphones, this is how all long range shooting vids on youtube should be done. Maybe actually get the shooter in the first camera shot though.

  • is a .223 likley to kill a enemy at that range? will the bullet provide the shock or mushroom like its supposed to?

  • Ding! ^^

  • yes i know its just for the time to pass i dont have nothing on now so its my extra time

  • holeh sheeeeit thats good shooting sir

  • 868 yards is 793 meters NOT BAD with a semi auto.

  • Found my answer in the comments. 1:8

  • Nice shooting. What twist is your barrel? 1/7?

  • You have to use a scope to hit the target? Wimp.

    ; )

  • @ptmccain

Hahaha, how about "strongly prefer a scope?" Need? Certainly not.

  • @scottys1 i can shot that with my hw100 air rifle no prob wimp

  • @scottys1 nicely put, lol.

  • @scottys1

LOL,,,Damn guys.....there are some of us that NEED a scope to even see 600 yards. With Oron sights I may me able to hit a barn or maybe a tractor trailer. but a 12"x12" target,,,,LOL I can see 12x12 @ 200 yards max!

  • @Ti2blkOPWolverine

    I meant Iron, not oron......hehehe

  • @akovic

Yep, I just used a hammer and punch on the plate when you weren't watching.

  • @akovic dipshiit

  • @akovic your an idiot

  • @akovic you are a dumb ass, have you ever shot a fire arm. if you think its fake why dont you stand out there and let him take a couple shots at you.

  • @akovic your a fucking dumbass

  • @akovic You surely never shot a gun. Maybe an airsoft

  • @akovic idiot

  • @akovic are you an idiot?

  • very cool. I especially love how you can hear the break down of the initial report at the firing line, the sonic crack at the camera, the ping of the target, and the following report at the target camera

I'm looking forward to taking my 18" spr-like build out and trying my hand at some longer range shots soon :)

  • that is amazing! I didnt even know you could shoot a .223 that far!

  • What thickness plate is that??

I'm thinking of buying a 3/8" ar500 plate for 300 to 1000 yard shots from a .223 AR and my 308 700. I just curious it can take those shots with out ruining it with craters and throw $200 out the window.

75% of the time its going to be out past 500 yards.

  • @mrmidnight32 3/8" AR500 will be fine for that. With a .223 or .308, you could use non AR plate at 700+ and be fine.

  • @mrmidnight32 lol another idiot.lol so many word for just a shooting plate lol haha 3/8" ar500 plate for 300 to 1000 a .223 AR and my 308 700. 5--.127. hahhahahahaha did enyone understand the numbers? lol fucking idiots

  • @akovic Its easy to talk shit from the comfort of your own home.

  • @mrmidnight32 try a scrap yard, you can find all sorts of plates. You can also use a piece of high density insulation styrofoam in front of the plate to prevent it from bouncing back, that works better with a small calibre gun

  • @mrmidnight32 I shoot a 1/2 inch mild steel plate at 500 yards with no cratering. works great. I'm also buying a 3/8 inch plate and cutting it with a plasma-cam into a human like LV steel target does. I'll probably use it for only shooting 1000 yards and further. :)

  • @OKPatriot92 Yea I already took the leap. I found a local guy and got me a 3/8" 26x16" piece for $90. I have it up in a few videos. Thanks for the help tho bro.

  • I love the sound delay

  • if they run now;die tired. wouldnt whant u shootin at me.

  • The 80 gr bullets are for slow-fire prone at 600 yards. As you say, they are too long to fit in a magazine. I envy your wide-open space to do this. The closest range that has a 1,400 yard line is a two hour drive at Interstate speeds. I'm not a member at that club, so I don't have access to it except for regional service rifle matches. Now it would be lot of fun to try my M1873 Springfield with 530 gr. LRN cast bullets at a long distance. I do like watching the split screen. Rusty C]:-)

  • @fc4570govt

I'd love to toss some big and slow rocks at long range, although a .308 o 1500 is a good substitute. I'm still driving over an hour to shoot LR...

  • You could switch to an 80 gr Sierra HBT MatchKing. My son's highpower team uses them for the 600 yard course of fire. At about 900 yd they will start to wobble. At 1,000 yd they lose accuracy. Generally, AR-15s are not usable for Palma Matches.

  • @fc4570govt

Right. I thought it was obvious that the Hornady 75gr HPBT is a compromise, but notice that I am shooting using field-grade mag-fed ammo. The 75Amax or 80SMK is not going to feed from a mag, the better choice would actually be 77SMK's, but I didn't have those loaded when I took the camera out for this session.

The point is just to see the load as-is: mid-level, loaded on a progressive, inexpensive, non-match-prepped ammunition that still can get there.

  • cool! =)

  • 2 MOA for windage would have put you at center mass. Good shooting though!

  • @168spitzer

You do know that the target is 10" wide, right? And that the camera is offset from center, right? And what a 1mph unreadable wind change can do to a 75gr HPBT at 2700fps, right? But thanks for the comments.

  • nice shooting!

  • Hey how do you split screen the videos like that? Anyone can help let me know thanks. Great video.

  • @guns4funca

My video editing software can do picture-in-picture. Adobe Premier. I'm sure many more can do it as well, I just am not familiar with them.

  • wow.. u r a real man! guns r so cool

  • That sound difference is really weird sounding. When bullets are flying over you from about 100 yards or more you realize that movies suck lol sounds really cool though in my opinion! Video doesnt do much justice, but you are a VERY good shot sir.

  • you failed one shot .. you kill !!!

  • @danel028 I would love to see you do this with a semi-automatic .223 at almost 900 yards.

  • Great Shooting!!! Really enjoyed the video. How many inches drop do you think your round had at that distance?

  • @ironchimpo I shoot a little CZ bolt action sometimes .223 (deer and ground squirrel gun mainly) and at 400 yards i have to aim about 3-3.5 feet above the deer's neck. I have my gun sighted in for 125 yards, so I'm guessing around 52 inches. The .223 is a great round, small bullet, lots of powder=high velocity

  • Nice shooting out there. What program are you useing for the tracer to show were your target and camra are set up?

  • when shooting at that distance you need some type of transportation to set the target

  • Impressive.

  • Does that buller has any force of penetration at these distances?

  • @BitsFan it chips the paint and might make it through piece of plywood

  • @BitsFan The estimated muzzle velocity of those 75 grain rounds were in the 2700 to 2800 feet per second area if not faster. At the 860 yard range he was shooting those 75 grain bullets are still going fast enough for a well aimed shot to be 100% lethal.

  • @BitsFan

Pretty unlikely, like getting hit by a 22lr with better sectional density, I bet.

  • Hi Scotty by any chance can you do a close up review on your Ar 15 that you use in this video?

  • @beemer318coupe

    That's a good idea.

  • @scottys1 Glad you agree Scotty hopefully you'll get time to make it, also is the DPMS you have called the Panther bull special 24'' just wondering because im thinking of getting it but im new to AR's and that one im really interested in thats why I made the suggestion to the video review of it also is it a light enough rifle for fast equistion on multiple targets

    Kind Regards

    Steven

  • Great job shooting! Much better than I can do.

  • The best shot on youtube right here in this video, without a doubt!

  • Damn, that's pretty good for the best part of a kilometre.

  • I honestly didn't think DPMS could do this kind of stuff, good shooting. This is great, especially for .223 I think the 75 grain bullets were a good call for this application. The only thing I'd recommend is to track your scope dope and mark each shot in the range shot before the next. But it is always fun to just plink and adjust on the spot. Great shooting!

  • What kind of barrel are you using?

  • what a great idea! I am so doing this! I love this video!

  • Very Impressive shooting, Hell I am happy when I make a hit at 500 Yrds with my 270, or 200 yrds with my .22LR

  • Nice shootin

  • Nice Shot, Good Camera work too.

  • Good demo of bullet trace & nice shooting. I like the split screen.

@beemer318coupe I'd suggest a mil dot reticle. Once you learn to use it it's really versatile. You should check out the swfa super sniper. I have a fixed 10x & have been really happy with it.

  • wow a fucking ar-15 at 200 yards is impressive, but 860....wow.

  • hes cheating..the juden has a flag up top check the wind direction :)

  • @statnone Dust. It is your friend.

  • @scottys1 oh didet know that :)

  • @statnone

That's not cheating. That's all part of the calculation and even if you knew exactly how strong your wind was and it was perfectly consistent, any wind at all adds a huge challenge to shooting this far with a .223. I still can't believe what I'm seeing! This is honestly more impressive than shooting a mile with a .50 BMG.

  • Beautiful shot! Especially with a .223 that's impressive. I just made a 825 yard shot with my 22-250 yesterday. It's great stuff!! And makervj.....please don't be dumb!

  • hi all I jus want to know does anyone have any good ideas of what scope and reticle to use for hunting and longrange target shooting as imbuying a Tikka t3 super varmint in .243 soon and cant really decide which scope and retice to get all ideas will be much appreciated!!! thanks, great vid scotty

  • With people like you nothing is safe anymore!

  • That's some good shootin, at what point does that 75 gr round start tumbling and losing accuracy because that just amazes me your doing that with a .223

  • I have to drop in and watch this video every month or so. It is byfar one of the best shooting videos on YouTube; the shooting itself and your production work.

  • Hey Scottys1 - do you think you could still achieve these results with a 3.5-15 ?

I want to get an NXS for a remington LTR .308 but I'm weighting up the two magnification ranges.

3.5 would be great for night shooting (like we do in Australia)

    many thanks

    Tim
