I think he tried to hope maybe one of the bigs (PF or C) would bring some help D in the paint since you want Ray Allen taking a lay up before you want to foul him and have him shoot free throws, since their pretty much automatic. But I do agree, he's not that great on D against Ray Allen. He was overplaying him the whole game and not giving himself some space to keep up when Ray was turning up the speed to run into the inside for a layup.
